I'm so grateful they survived! Was very worried about them. I didn't know there were houses on the island. I heard guardians would be staying with the horses 🐎 so of course I assumed they would be laying on top of the horses 🐎 to protect them while lying buried in the dunes so imagine my shock when the announcer just said the people stayed indoors with strict orders not to come out under any circumstances 😳. What kind of worthless guardians are those? I would have stayed outside with the horses 🐎 because it would be way too stressful and upsetting to be worrying about them 😕 indoors.

I will see if there is an American or Australian video update of this story. They will definitely give us way more information. I don't like CBC but I found myself watching CBC for the hurricane updates because this time the weather Channel did such a crappy job. CBC did pretty good. I wanted to know how the horses 🐎 survived, where they hid and how many survived. This guy answered none of these questions. He just went on about his stupid siding which I couldn't care less about. Sable Island is my true bucket list visit. I highly recommend an educational/informative historical romance, "Return to Sable" by author Jill Martin Bouteillier. This superbly tells the story of the Bouteillier family who basically run Sable Island in the late 1800's and early 20th Century. In 1905 a Marconi Wireless Station is established on Sable Island and with it the heroic Marconi Wireless Men arrive. The book also mentions Marconi Station Camperdown at Halifax, NS and the mega powerful Marconi Station at Table Head-Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. One little book filled to overflowing with history as it really happened. Few books with a romantic lilt are so very well researched and sweetly told. It is incredibly ignorant of CBC TV to not turn this into a three or four part mini-drama.

The horses should be rescued from that island regardless. It's inhumane - we have this romantic idea of these wild horses, but they were essentially abandoned there centuries ago by men. It's not their natural habitat. The herd is only 500 or so - the amount of inbreeding is damaging them genetically. The poor nutrition from the available grasses on that island makes their immune system prone to infection. The tough grass wears down their teeth to the point where the biggest cause of death on older horses is starvation because they can no longer feed themselves. They also inadvertently consume sand when grazing which clogs their digestion systems. Why condemn these horse to such a harsh life, pain and agonizing deaths just because we think wild horses on an island is neat?
