Exploration has so much potential that could offer many players a very engaging and rewarding experience in the verse. But what might be added to really make it an amazing experience? Today, we dive into the exploration gameplay loop and see what it could evolve into.

      @Hav0k  Месяц назад +3

Completely agree with you. It's got to be a lot more than just finding things, collecting data, and selling it. It needs to be more engaging than that. The Covalex mission where we have to investigate what happened to the station is easily one of the prime examples of what I'd like to see. Something that tells a story that we interact with.

@@Hav0k what you mean? "It needs to be", "It's got to be", are not demands in any meaning of the word?
Isn't priming Tessa's or Covalex missions calling for story driven handcrafted content? When you must know as anybody that the replayability of these one-ofs makes as much sense as rewatch a detective film (some folks do that, alright...). So to keep up with the speed of players consuming such content is nearly impossible. Other ideas you are proposing, such as discovering a whole new star system, while based on CIG's already communicated ideas of moving jump-points, are again stretching this to impossible prospects: CIG is supposed to be churning out new star systems like ED slaps procedurally generated repetitive boring crap, but not repetitive? Each with own history and narrative? How???
Your idea with some insanely rare artefact found in your video is probably the closest to something which seems practically and economically doable, but again raises questions you didn't attempt to answer, such as not everybody can be a hero in MMO, so do you respawn the artefact for everybody and dilute it's perceived value, or do you go the first come first serve route and reward players with most time and dedication (but mostly time) in hands?
I don't see solutions here, really.

I really hope they do the game justice with exploration. I don't need a reason to go out flying and explore, the game looks amazing and I love flying, but it would be really cool to have neat little discoveries along the way and POI's that get added to your map. I'm really hoping they flesh it out and combine it with other disciplines like mining and medicine, looking for rare ore or plants for medical ingredients.

Basic rules of scanning a newly discovered solar system:
    1. Enter it at the heliosphere and take passive readings for the first few days. You want to first try to detect any technology (uniform electromagnetic waveforms, structures, number of large bodies and their moons, etc.). Send a drone/prob to the other side of the system to do passive readings from that side. Send an extremely stealthy probe(s) past any habitable planet(s) to pick up close up passive data. Might be smart to send probes to a northern or southern position in respect to the solar systems planetary plane; this way one can look "up" or "down" upon a system with less obstacles in the way.
    2. When all passive readings are taken, depending on those findings, entering the system may be an option. If seemingly empty of intelligent life, then yes. If a technological or pre-space era civilization is on any of the planets then some moral decisions need to be made. If interplanetary, within their own system, then perhaps First Contact is an option. If pre-space, then the system might want to be marked as Protected. It would not be very righteous for an advanced space faring race to use up all the critical alloys in a systems asteroids fields that would have allowed that slowly advancing race to eventually mature...but can't...because their resources are depleted.
    3. If not inhabited then actively scanning the system for it's wealth (minerals, habitable environments, potential food stuffs, medical applications, science, etc.).
    4. Marking claims (as proscribed by the EUA); such as the first large scale city layouts, smaller communities around the globe depending on interests, farming, mining, research...or just simply homesteading.
    5. Deciding, within the parameters of the UEA, what form of government you want.
    6. Looking for new potential "Jump Gates" in the system and exploring where they go...it would certainly help a fledgling system if they had a jump gate arriving close to a mapped jump gate, or actually led to Terra or Stanton.

Example, go to this location scan for a worm hole, if you find it see where it leads.
Or we got a lead on an ancient artifact. It's roughly in this area. Go there and scan for clues.

I hope that the exploration gameplay is the start of many missions. Whether it’s NPCs doing the missions or Star Citizens, finding a wreck to salvage could become a mission. Maybe you are in the Aaron Halo and you find a small base, whether it’s a rock or a ship. You sell the data, and now it becomes a mission to take out the base, which can then turn into a salvage mission. A mining node has been found and sold as data, becoming a mission to be mined and delivered. Many missions could start from exploration and data delivery gameplay.

Nice video and interesting theory crafting. I’d also love to see a communications and combat role for scanning. A battlegroup with a dedicated scanning ship could detect threats from beyond targeting range. Perhaps also exclusively detect torpedos when scanning in the right direction/mode or vastly improve the point defence cannons in the vicinity. Relegating priority targets to the fleet, a fleet with such ship (e.g. Terrapin) in its composition would be at an advantage. Conversely destroying its radar dish or the ship altogether would remove the advantage and enable torpedo ships to effectively use their armament proficiently on capital ships.

Could you imagine if the implemented AI into the NPC’s that had dynamic knowledge of what was happening in a system or region of a planet or asteroid belt that changed based on the quanta simulation? I think people misinterpret Adventure with Exploration.
Exploration to me, has to do with diving deep into either science or archaeology. Path ways. So like you mentioned, scanning is part of the Science path (can be sort of Archaeology finding abandoned and old civilizations).
Scanning celestial events, probing them, discovering and learning about them. Things that can enhance other areas of gameplay is how we get Rare materials for special projects (better gear for players and ships, structures).
Mini-games like running a laboratory, setting up stations and using microscopes with soil samples. This would make setting up remote Scientific outposts a cool idea. A basic form of this style of gameplay is in another game, Kingdom Come Deliverance, with alchemy. So interacting, following recipes, and crafting/experimenting this way would be interesting. Those that keep to this pathway and do this gameplay will likely be rewarded with being the first in Research for better things for players.
Celestial anomalies (think Star Trek). Would be essential for an open world space game like Star Citizen.
But a lot of comments around this topic sound more like an Adventure. Visiting determined locations and saying you've been there and doing other gameplay loops like FPS combat, bounties, or cargo.

Exploration on foot aboard a vehicle or spaceship
Exploration would be boring for the most part if the missions consisted mainly of staying in your ship
We could have an npc or a player who received the coordinates of a point but without more information and then he could accompany us in the treasure hunt, the environments being compromised by spatial, meteorological or climatic or even topological conditions; remuneration by separation of earnings or sharing of valuable resources or acquiring a title that will boost our reputation or propel our relationships
as cargo missions evolve with the risk towards combat missions and yes we are not going to ask for mercenaries every time we sometimes play two roles
In my opinion, exploration will have several inclinations
The assassination of an important person depending on whether it is within our capabilities or not, the annihilation of evidence whether it is a document a crime a structure
Have a mission to locate a camp with a view to an attack consisting of assessing the level of dangerousness of the members of a pirate camp, their leaders, the potential resources at stake (mark the targets in red in order to spare civilians ) either binoculars or drone which could compromise the presence of the spies if it is shot down leading to an inevitable confrontation
Build relationships by disseminating contracts not listed because special conditions either the village has no means of communication or it was waiting for a trustworthy person link with reputation either you must have a bad or a good one depending on the criteria of the NPC
Mark a frequented trade route for a merchant or ill-intentioned NPC whether land, space or sea
Find a suitable location for installation:
Access to other players: Discussion with NPC with questions targeted around specific criteria and list of answers from the ex player. Are you looking for a place to set up your camp? Yes that's fine. / No, not quite. or directly. What are you looking for? A base / A quarry / ... What do you plan to undermine? 1/2/3/4
Specific resources requiring processing equipment ex extraction excavation
      Specific military installation topology
      Specific decorations player base installation
Collect a rare specimen of fauna or flora or mark its location whether it is a fish or a flower which serves as a specific remedy or poison for an assassination mission
This specimen requires either knowledge of the spawning sites which dry up quickly and you have to look for others or extremely complex transport conditions in an aquarium that in certain vessels or a room with variable temperature and climate to preserve the plant until it is treated in a pharmaceutical complex or a player's base for production and sale! can be looted!
Discovery of spatial terrestrial maritime remains:
Solve a mystery / find valuable elements
Ship wreck: Recover a material, a part, an outfit, a badge, a code ~ infiltration and identification ~... / Search for a body, a cause, a proof, ...
Abandoned infrastructure: Recover a material, a part, etc. / Search for a body, a code, a cause, a proof, etc.
Old infrastructures with puzzle/treasure game (stories to decipher which give the password or guide us elsewhere, system to operate by action of the character or the structure placing itself in a place or moving a wall)
Characteristics of the exploration arsenal: increased reconnaissance technologies, covering long distances, resisting harsh conditions, extricating yourself from compromising situations
As during the exploration we will surely find lots of points of interest herds bodies of water/basins of chemical solutions craters, caves with resources this can occupy a second role of crew who will note the presence of all this with more or less less precision depending on the extent of the capabilities of its equipment an optional photographic gun station would replace a turret of your choice the drone cannot operate in all cases need for battery recharging limited speed or range of the signal depending on the type of drone (e.g. mining scan = heavy or light drone)
