Dante's characterization and growth is a pretty good indicator of how much thought went into his development despite starring in simple stories, that even his edgelord-like self in DMC2 can be explained. After DMC1 and the emotional trauma he endured, Dante went through his "emo" arc in the anime and DMC2, until he met Nero in DMC4. I honestly loved learning this development even if it wasn't told to you.
it's not a developement,it's a characteristic change,DMC3 is literally soft reboot,he is no longer original Dante, Itsuno butchered his characteristic. DMC3 have potential to be DMC Dante but he butchered his characteristic by carry on DMC3 personalities toward current one,Dante never was Emo,he is just a sarcastic person that have serious air around him.
This is so dumb but i just made this connection. After the bug scientist fight, nero's reach for kriye is basicallly the same reach he does at the end of dmc5, when he unlocks his (bang bang bang) devil trigger, like right before mission 20 I love that intentionally or not, they used the same action in the similar scenarios for nero. In both hes tryna save people and in both he's struggling. The first case he's losing kriye and the second time she's the motivating force Maybe im making a connection where there is none, but with how much nero parellels virigl i wouldnt be surpized if he does the same with himself
Surprisingly Lucifer did make a second appearance in DMC5. If you look closely Dante has a taunt where he throws Lucifer's rose and it does minor damage :D
Even better If you can chip enemy hp down to what looks like 1 hp left without killing them early The rose throw CAN kill that said 1 hp enemy Like it always makes me chuckle that i stylishly beat the enemy up in full control of the battle Just to finish them off that way Feels like rubbing salt in their wounds
There's a lot to love here - the edits, relating the series' production to other issues in the industry, how much your love for the series shines through - but the unremarked upon lawn chair mod is a beautiful touch. ❤ Some of the stuff about V is explained in the "Visions of V" manga, including where he got the money, but iirc it was never released in English.
dmc3 also has dynamic difficulty btw, an obvious example is dying a few times against cerb - he'll more often do the lunge then take forever for the chains to pull him back in
It the first Dmc game I played. I wouldn't have finished it without the dynamic difficulty I guess. You could notice it at the bosses. Only Virgil at the end didn't gave a fuck about it. Seeing this at 41:00 gives me PTSD flashbacks. Good times
1:27:57 canonically, the tattoos only appeared after V tamed the summons later 1:39:26 Nero legit kept that deadweight comment in his head for a whole month😂😂😂
noritaka funamizu is still in the credits of devil may cry 2, and he was never the director. if you are reading the wikipedia article, I understand why you might misread and misunderstand its strange wording. however, following the sources linked on wikipedia makes this information much clearer.
1:34:48 It's also kind of funny that this tracks lore-wise, because demons grow more powerful from consuming human blood. So having an unlimited supply from bone marrow means you're constantly getting stronger.
Iirc you actually can switch between Alastor and Ifrit in DMC 1 by pressing one of the thumb sticks, the game just never tells you that and it plays an animation when you swap. Still not optimal, but certainly better than going into the Menu constantly
You managed to put a lot of how I feel about this series in words. Thank you very much for synthesizing it in a very entretaining... two hours??? What the hell I didn't even notice it was that long.

I went into this video thinking DMC was just a fun campy over the top action game that gets a little gringy sometimes but in a good way to thinking "wait is this series kinda based as fuck?". Great video
In terms of "Is it Playable in *Present Year*" after playing all the DMC games on the HD collection last year (and then also playing Drakengard I for comparison on the other end of the scale) I was actually curious about this and I've been like going thru and playing a couple hours of a lot of PS2 era Hack and Slash games to get a feel for what was acceptable in 2000-2005 vs now. I'd def say that like you said with some tweaks to the camera, the continue system, and some slight alterations to make DMC1 Dante more like DMC3 and 5 Dante in personality than he is (I don't think they had quite mastered goofy memelord Dante yet), DMC1 holds up really well. Nothing else of the generation really matches it until Ninja Gaiden and DMC3 come out 3 to 4 years later. I'd even put it DMC1 ahead of the original GoW which has a bit too much QTE and platforming DNA from Prince of Persia for my tastes in a hack and slash. Really enjoying this video so far, but I wanted to chime in and say: I see all these Trails in the Sky references you keeping dropping, would love to see a video from you on the series in the future!
Yet again, a Misshapen Chair video that doesn't appear in the subscriptions tab, I really wonder what's going on with that, it used to before the sea of mid video, I'm pretty sure...
Something interesting that you didn't mention is that Pandora's Giant Deathroscope mode is actually the first ever reference to Armored Core 6's Balteus
Personally, I do like V's gameplay and would like to see a character like him appear, but be more active in their own combat. I can imagine a warlock who has spells of his own casting spells while using a summoned demon or two for additional firepower. Maybe give a DT in the form of Possession as the combo list completely changes into becoming something much more destructive.
I want a sequel where you can play as ALL the characters, including Trish, Lady, and Luccia. But not only that, Nero's Devil Breakers can be cycled through like Dante's Styles.
It's not quite the same thing what you mean, but this may be interesting: There's an upcoming character action/hack-and-slash game called Genokids, whereyou can technically play as four characters at once. Plot is: Rock band's concert gets disrupted by alien invasion. Band members get lost. Find them back and defeat the aliens. All band members are like "styles" to switch between and have their own moveset, Specials, Devil Triggers and seem to get two different weapons. - Blue has a guitar that becomes a sword and a bearded axe that can operate as a scythe. - Red has drums that can become thick hot gauntlets. Second weapon hasn't yet been revealed. - Green gets ranged laser drones. Second weapon hasn't yet been revealed. - Yellow... no idea what she plays, probably bass, or she's a songstress. Either way, her weapons a big mallet. Second weapon hasn't yet been revealed. There seem to be fun tricks, like starting up a charge attack with long animation, and then switching to another character while that first character is still *continuing* their animation. Or simply escaping knockback and hitstun by character switching. There is a demo out with Blue and Red playable with one weapon each, if you're interested.
I too find myself just go back to dmc5 on dmd difficulty and have a blast Even more so in this way I do give a self induced challenge On dmd difficulty Do missions 19 and 20 as vergil without taking damage Then switch to the main 3 campaign and do these same missions on dmd without taking damage Then to polish up against mooks As vergil, misison 13 without taking damage
I can't be assed to search for the exact moment in the video, but still -- V got the commission money for Dante by going out and robbing people with his summons, edgelord Robin Hood style, helping occasional innocent passerby in the process. Please read Visions of V manga, it's a great supplementary piece of writing.
I didn't even know that we found out who the original director of dmc2 was (also it's sad how there is defiantly an alternate universe where the game is amazing. I hope we get a remake)
@@ДмитрийГладыш at first i felt it was an understandable mistake, now i'm just upset. I'm not at all a fan of someone lying to me, then attempting to explain it was a joke long after they've damaged their credibility to the point where I've stopped listening completely.
Where did you get the original DMC2 director? It was a mistery until now, How did you get This info? Also you can switch between Alastor and Ifrit without Menuing, by pressing R3 in the original PS2 box cover you can get that information (only there)
He's wrong. Noritaka Funamizu didn't direct DMC2. He was the head of Capcom's former arcade division, Development Studio 1, that DMC2 was developed under.
Seems like it also gave some gameplay inspiration for the 2022 game Soulstice, along with DMC5 and Bayonetta. Soulstice has some rough points but nevertheless it's one of my favourite games in the genre, period.
And honestly That is to be expected with corporates Unless Motoaki "Yagoo" Tanigo once again gets maybe a side project for cover corp(same company behind Hololive Productions fyi) And said side project is game devving(although he greenlit an initiative for indie games to get some of the benefits of triple A devved games like holoparade) We wont see anyone in upper management as decent and virtuous of a man as he is Every other ceo out there, they are all the same heartless ghouls who see those below them as just disposable machines Including their own customers So saddly there wont be a change in these corporations anytime soon Yagoo with Cover corp and HoloPro are merely exceptions and not the rule Which is still sad as apparently just being a decent bunch of people with virtues and principles is considered the "gold standard" among the ocean sized tarpits of typical, borderline black company corpos out there

It's explained in the manga, V and Griffon mugged a guy to get the money to pay Dante for the job.
dmc3 also has dynamic difficulty btw, an obvious example is dying a few times against cerb - he'll more often do the lunge then take forever for the chains to pull him back in

@1:23:16 V canonically robbed someone to get both the money and his clothes that he wears.
That brief cut to Haze for the Edgelord Simulator bit caused me to incur deep psychic damage. Thank you.
Came back to say the edits around the end of 5 are incredible. Fantastic job!
What I love about Vergil is that he is a bit of a goof and a dork. My man reads poetry and says jackpot

Another trails reference on another chair guy video. We are getting closer to a trails video from the chair guy

Shinji Mikami did not work on Hi-Fi Rush!
Gold Orbs originated in DMC 2, and were not in DMC 3 before Special Edition!
How many hours did you pump into the DMC5 climax edit? HOOOOOOLY. Well done Mishappening chair
DMC3 had slightly different DT forms. I think DMC1 and 3 are unique in this way. Slight correction
The anonymous agony reference at 4:20 genuinely gave me an aneurysm
Came for DMC, stayed for an uplifting chat about Devs being allowed to try and fail. Another ace well thought out vid, thanks again Chair

- Yellow... no idea what she plays, probably bass, or she's a songstress.
That gay joke explanation felt pretty gay
Devil May Cry is the Darksouls of character-action games
congrats on the milestone
I too find myself just go back to dmc5 on dmd difficulty and have a blast
Even more so in this way
I do give a self induced challenge
On dmd difficulty
Do missions 19 and 20 as vergil without taking damage
Then switch to the main 3 campaign and do these same missions on dmd without taking damage
Then to polish up against mooks
As vergil, misison 13 without taking damage
I will not let go of the theory that Itsuno was made the fall guy for DMC 2.
yamato was capable to create rifts from earth to underworld so how are they still trapped, did they just forgot the fact because of their rivalry.
why is the ragnarok online sound that appears when you successfully upgrade something at 1:24
This was actually great. Good job!
Love your videos man, Great Job.
1:43:53 they did this in Peak of Combat. It's alright I guess. But it would be better switching if they actually had more moves per character
vergil is truly the dante of devil may cry 3
8:10 if that's a dishonored reference I'm sold off on subscribing twice the time
I can't be assed to search for the exact moment in the video, but still -- V got the commission money for Dante by going out and robbing people with his summons, edgelord Robin Hood style, helping occasional innocent passerby in the process. Please read Visions of V manga, it's a great supplementary piece of writing.
Noritaka Funamizu was the head of the former arcade division, not the director.
I didn't even know that we found out who the original director of dmc2 was
(also it's sad how there is defiantly an alternate universe where the game is amazing. I hope we get a remake)
He's wrong. Noritaka Funamizu was the head of the division DMC1 was developed in.
@@Potidaon oh thank you for clearing that up
shinji mikami, while tangentially involved in its production, is not attributed to hi-fi rush's creative vision

@@ДмитрийГладыш at first i felt it was an understandable mistake, now i'm just upset.
I'm not at all a fan of someone lying to me, then attempting to explain it was a joke long after they've damaged their credibility to the point where I've stopped listening completely.
It took me a minute to notice that plastic chair 😂
I saw title I thought it’s video about DMC games or mods so you can play by typing like Typing of The Dead
1:35:00 i hear that Madworld OST.
I think i heard some God Hand OST among there as well.
it's so familiar but i cant remember the song

Now now.
To be fair
DmC: devil may cry
Diiiid give us the dynamic soundtrack as style increases that dmc5 would run away with.
Seems like it also gave some gameplay inspiration for the 2022 game Soulstice, along with DMC5 and Bayonetta. Soulstice has some rough points but nevertheless it's one of my favourite games in the genre, period.
good video mx chair and i liked it very much
And honestly
That is to be expected with corporates
Unless Motoaki "Yagoo" Tanigo once again gets maybe a side project for cover corp(same company behind Hololive Productions fyi)
And said side project is game devving(although he greenlit an initiative for indie games to get some of the benefits of triple A devved games like holoparade)
We wont see anyone in upper management as decent and virtuous of a man as he is
Every other ceo out there, they are all the same heartless ghouls who see those below them as just disposable machines
Including their own customers
So saddly there wont be a change in these corporations anytime soon
Yagoo with Cover corp and HoloPro are merely exceptions and not the rule
Which is still sad as apparently just being a decent bunch of people with virtues and principles is considered the "gold standard" among the ocean sized tarpits of typical, borderline black company corpos out there
yo (chuckle) that last edit was kinda nasty
Happy 100k!
