    For any new player, remember to google mtga arena codes. There will be a code for 3 packs from every set. Netting you atleast 30 free packs. This is the single most benificial thing to do when you start your account. After redeeming the packs you can now craft mono blue in standard within a few days. This is a playable tier 2-3 meta deck that will allow you to play at a decent level from the get go. Total cost in bo1 - 4 rares. Have a magical time 👏

      So from a meta standpoint t3 decks are anything that, statistically, underperforms in the current meta of played decks. A t3 deck will normally net a below 50% win rate.
      T2 decks are considered as decks that will net you a 50% win rate at the least.
      T1 decks are considered as a deck that is overpreforming. A deck that nets you a roughly 60% win rate would be t1.
      A decks tier placement is dependent on average win rates among users. The tiers can change depending on what decks make up the most popular builds in the meta. The most played, or popular, decks aren't always t1. A t1 deck could be a counter to the most popular played decks. It would become t1 by netting a massive WR over the popular decks. Sometimes t1 decks really are just the best though. Mono U is a good t2 deck but individual winrates are going to be dependant on the users skill as well as luck.

    IMO, something else to touch on, for follow up video, which someone briefly describes below, is after you've built up your collection, will usually have a ton of common and uncommon wildcards. When you do, save them for the next set, use the common and uncommon wildcards on as many as you can before opening a single pack or participating in a single draft event, etc. Then, when you receive duplicates, they'll all go toward advancing your vault, essentially trading up your common and uncommon wilds for mythic and rare wilds (at a terrible rate, but hey, if not going to use them for anything anyway, better than just having a million common wilds sitting in bank for no reason, lol).

I took a break from MTG when Alchemy came out, and angrily accidentally purchased an Alchemy bundle instead of the legit bundle of packs when I started playing again. One point that might be helpful to new players: The only way to really get value from your large quantities of uncommon and common wild cards is to convert them into cards of the current set that you enjoy drafting before you complete the set. In this way you can farm the draft chaff and at least gain some vault progress. Do you really need 100+ commons sitting around? Complete the playsets of ones you already have 2 or 3 of. There are tools to help you identify and even simplify crafting them all at once.

    Thoughts on Premier draft? Strikes me as a more high stakes version of a quick draft - if you hit the 3/4 win mark it’s a great way to grind, but less wins is a heavier loss while more is a better gain.
    Other note in general is that you get additional value from purchasing draft/limited because you can play for a few hours in addition to getting packs and cards which is nice.

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  Год назад +3

      For the purpose of building a card collection, Premier Draft is just double the entry fee for almost the same amount of cards, so it's not the most effective. But for decent limited players, the gem rewards are better and it's a little easier to go infinite if you're good enough. Higher risk and higher reward for people who are good at drafts.

    • @thenumbernurturer4066
      @thenumbernurturer4066 Год назад +5

      IMO, if you're rare drafting, you'll get FAR more rares and mythics in Premier draft than quick draft. At least double, often more, especially if premier drafting late in the set release. I can usually pick up 10 rare/mythic per premier draft, often getting one even 5th or 6th pick. Many rares and mythics don't translate well to limited, and real people just pass them, where quick draft computer doesn't let them go that long.

The event is designed to show you packs you haven't picked before, so if you've picked more older ones, it'll be much more likely to show you newer ones. The same applies to "deals" in the store. Packs used to cost 500-600gold as for "daily deals". Overall the game seems to be a bit more stingy than in 2019-20! Any recommendation for at what point the "switch" happens on set collection to go from Quick Drafting to build out your collection on a given set to just buying packs? For example, on BRO I'm at 90% total with 378/404 Common complete playset, 78/80 Uncommon, 50/68 Rare, and 17/23 Mythic. I have done a fair bit of drafting on BRO and feel like I'm hitting that diminishing returns, but could probably do some and try to mythic/rare draft or draft for complete playsets and abandon hope on building a cohesive and winning deck. Anyways, just wondering in your opinion when you think it's wise to transition from putting gold towards Quick Drafts and start putting them into Packs. Thanks!

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  Год назад +2

      I think it's hard to give a definite answer of when the switch should happen. There's a big grey area where the draft starts to lose value slightly. I'd say if you have that much of the set completed already, then packs are probably the way to go. I'm just making a video on this topic in more detail that'll be out in the next day or two 👍

    • @pointyheadYT
      @pointyheadYT Год назад +1

      I switch at around 50-60% completion of all rares+mythics, so just take an average.
      If the disparity is big, like, you have 65% rares completed, but only 35% mythics, then I'd wait for mythic packs to come out towards the end of the set and buy those. At 60% rare+mythic collection completion I usually have about 100-150 unopened packs, depending on how well I did at drafts, so opening them at season end is likely enough to instacomplete the entire collection.
      Rule of thumb for me is, when you start regularly seeing 2+ duplicate rares/mythics per draft, its not worth it anymore. Also, if your winrate is below 55% play quickdraft, if its above go for premium. Oh, and don't forget, there's no shame in rare-drafting.
      Hope this helps, gl.

    I find that you should build up your gold reserves just for current set you're playing in, and when the next set arrives, you'll have a decent amount of wild cards able to craft and enough gold to buy up alot of packs, build up your treasure chest and replenish your wild cards. All in the effort to max out all the rares and mythics. And from thereI you're able to farm gems, usually 20 gems from a rare = 1000 gold per pack you're spending and at the same time you're building up your wild card crafting meter. All you need is just one near completed set to farm off of. And not every set is a winner and must have, so you'll replenishing your gems and crafting meter pretty fast towards a set that you're looking forward to and rinse and repeat. Worked great for Crimson Vow, skipped investing heavily in the next to, and, worked on Brothers War. I basically have two sets to farm off of.

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  Год назад

      I could make a whole video on this because the answer can be a little complicated! It partially depends on how many Quick Draft games you win on average per event. If you win 3 or more on average, then Quick Drafts will stay more efficient until you start seeing rares in the draft that you already have 4 copies of. If you win fewer than 3 games per event on average then it's much closer, and I would probably just go with whichever method you enjoy more. It also depends on whether you're spending gold or gems on the draft, because most people would spend 5,000 gold, which could get you 9 rares if spent on packs.

Then I purchased over 55 packs and opened them. I didn't see any dup protection happening. In the Bro packs I ended up opening 2 more Steel Seraph's and kept getting the same commons and uncommons that I already have. It was even comical with the commons I had 10 commons at 3x and somehow I didn't pack a single one. Then I opened my gold packs and the same thing happened their too. Any extra commons and uncommons go towards vault progress instead of swapping for different cards, so you might see the same ones coming up over and over again. Crafting all the commons and uncommons before opening packs will only guarantee you fill your vault faster. Because Steel Seraph is a rare, if you have already crafted 4 of them, you shouldn't see them at all when you open packs, it should automatically swap out for a different rare.

And spending a rare wildcard on something that exists in Jump In is a waste. And I shouldn't open any BRO packs before getting all those rares, because of duplicate protection.

    Best way to build fast is lose a lot haha. Why face the big guys when all you have to do is give up and complete daily. I actually laugh at people now who think I am trying to win. Get gold Lose a lot if you can't end it quickly and move on. MTGA is a joke because there is no penalty for giving up and moving to the next game. Wish more people would follow this principle because when you are winning you are really winning and it is a waste of time for them to fight it. The only reason anyone plays at all is for gold and cards to do draft.

    • @gameschooldadMTG
      @gameschooldadMTG  Год назад

      You can play to lose if you want, but that doesn't sound very fun. About 50% of the gold you can build up comes from actually winning games, so I think it's worth trying at least to win, even if it's with a budget deck to start with. It doesn't take too much to build one decently competitive deck, even for casual players.

    • @gameschooldadMTG

      I'd say there are lots of times you would prefer having a rare rather than a mythic. Many top tier decks require more rares than mythics too. The extra 30% cost would make a big difference to the amount of packs you'd be able to afford.
