Man-o-Man that By Van is so cool! And Sammy's Idea to recreate it in an electric version would be very neat in deed. Thanks for sharing your wonderful life.

Raleigh Runnabout? Modern exotica! I was on a Norman Nippy, my mates a Phillips Panda and an NSU Quickly 2-speed! This was when they made 16 yr olds ride mopeds instead of 250s and 125s for learners - so it was another year and a half before I could get a proper bike! Wah!

NSU Quickly was a remarkable machine. Had 2 of them and they were my only means of transport as a trainee press photographer in the 1960's. Always got me there on time and with the really large wheels very stable unlike the scooters which were all the rage then. Still a vast number of NSU's about but the cost of a restored one is staggering, and my family would be horrified to see me on one at my age. I think they should see what Sammy gets up to and he is 10 years older than me !

And I thought I was the only one belting around in 1975 on a Raleigh Runabout, mixing it with all my mates on their FS1E's, Gilera's and Garelli's.

50cc. Slow as a wet week. Makes an A100 seem like a Norton Manx. 😂

Yes, I had a Fizzy, gave me my freedom, went everywhere on it, even off road.

Great video, Sammy. I’m pretty sure I saw Rolf Steinhausen racing in the IOM TT in the mid-70s, on a König sidecar outfit…

Why does the fizzie have "SS" on the side panel, rather than FS1E ?

    • @briggaskin

because the early ones were badged "ss"(sixteener special) until honda made a fuss due to them already having an "ss" model of their own in production. it stood for 'sport special' but was known also as the 'ss', so yamaha rebadged them FS1- and the letter which applied to the territory it was made for.

Cool little be- bopper, good on gas, fun to cruise around on. That Van is a trip, it's like riding a cooler.
