- Every X5 owner should code their tailgate to soft close. I hate the slam that happens when the tailgate closes. Now it closes like it should have came from the factory and more traditionally.
Unfortunately many have asked about the G05. I don’t have one to see what their options look like so this applies to the F15 and F85 right now. I apologize for the confusion.

I applied these settings and found it better but still a little harsh, the original settings were all 40 1 through to 8, looking at the settings you supplied I took a educated guess that the first three setting is all that needed to be changed. I proceeded to adjust these settings until I got the perfect close, my best settings are 0= 10 1=20 2=30 the rest I left @ 40, found this to be perfect for my car, clearly this may vary from car to car. I was sure to reload the default setting between every try just incase!

Oh no, Ed! After many months of loving it, I’m thinking of reverting this lovely mod back to stock. I’m beginning to think there’s a functional purpose behind the *THUNK*. Aside from a more audible reassurance that it’s closed all the way, I believe it helps close a packed trunk better since it’s closing it with more force.
Our family has packed up the X5 many times and since doing this mod, I’ve been noticing the hatch “bounces” off our stuff more than it used to, forcing us to manually close it.
It's all in the design, the sound your car doors or tailgate make is all about giving the driver and passenger psychological assurance.
I can see your complaint. I had to load up a few boxes and I needed it to slam shut. I may try and play with the numbers to see if there could be a in between mode.

I'll have to have a look, I never noticed it closing hard....mine seems to already soft close. I did code it with bimmercode a little while back to be able to open and close from the door and fob. Great app. One thing to keep in mind while using bimmercode is to have your car battery on a charger. If your battery dies from lights being on or fans being on, some one putting a window down....you could brick your ecu. Don't let your car die. Also for bmw the ecu's won't all function if the drivers seat belt isn't clicked in.

I did everything step by step ,so practical byte 0 to byte 10 means the speed closing,
So what I did little bit different
Byte 0 - 8
Byte 1- 15
Byte 2- 20
Byte 3- 25
So adding plus 5 till byte 10 or so - the last i did 50 or 60
Once again
Byte 0x08
Byte 0x15
Byte 0x20
That's the speed of closure(60 on top- 8 on bottom) for me 10 was too fast ..

By the way, try to put byte 0 to 20 if you see still to fast change to 10 , but even 10 to fast then put 9 or 8 . I think 8 it's fine,
Byte 1 maybe 14
Byte 2 maybe 19 ...
Changing those byte meaning the speed slow or fast . Difrent bmw difrent speed of closure. So try with 20 if that will be fast then try to change to 15 or slower.

There’s someone else that said the same thing. I wonder if it’s the newer years that do not have the same options.
hi, many thanks for the video, i recently purchased X5 F15 2017 with M package and try to start coding with bimmercode and OBDLink CX and the menus are not the same as you showm, the menus show to me in the app are so different to yours, i don´t know if is because im a using an Iphone 13 updated to IOS 17.1 or i have the full paid Bimmercode app, any advice will be very appreciated

Hey Ed. Can you do a video how to do a backups? I tried to do backups on my f85 2018 and it didn't seem to work for the softclose tailgate i think i coded a lot on that day when i coded my tailgate and now i dont know when. i always love/follow/watch your video content. And also is there an adjustment on how long you press your keyfob to open/close your tailgate? thank you
The backups should happen automatically.
Yes, you can code the delay but I believe it's under Body Domain Control

It may be possible, however the coding is different. It seems to change by each generation.

Just code it today and the liftgate close softly now. Have you heard any clicking noise after the liftgate while the liftgate after it was fully closed. I really like this type coding videos.
No clicking other than the soft close mechanism locking the gate.

it appears this coding is for F15/F85 X5? i could not find these same parameters for G05 X5 (MY21 45e on latest version bimmercode app). i would've loved this!
I’m sorry. I wish it would work with the G05. I assumed they soft closed since the lower tailgate is power also
For my 2018, under the tailgate expert for 3020 it's called APPL_Sensor not HKL_
what do you do from there? i dont have the HKL i have a 2017 X5 F15 thank you

My 2017 X5 Xdrive40e does not have these same options in Expert mode. I see others stating they can't find it with newer than 2016 models as well on forums. If anyone know the other places this can be done in the newer vehicles, please reply. I hate how loud it slams. Love your channel!

Just tried my 2017 X5M and the options are also different. Most things are in English as well. There's a speed section but nothing with a table like this. I already had Carly but bought Bimmercode specifically to change the tailgate slamming.
@@justinbowman8951 Same for me, unfortunately. I have a 2017 F15 and these options do not exist on Bimmercode in Expert Mode. Also, it does not display "Tailgate Function Module" but instead (I think) "Power Liftgate Module."

Yes, it should have ambient lighting. Coding would be first thing I would check.

Hey Ed, just picked up my new to me 17 BMW X5 x35i with driver assist, driver assist plus and m sport package. Love this car man, got it in space gray metallic! I'm going to watch your coding video, I already ordered the OBD II reader from your amazon link, waiting for it to come in. In that video do you go over the full screen apple carplay? Can I code it through bimmercode?
I think if you do the new software update you should be able to do that....I may be wrong I'm an android user 😑 I never checked since I'm more than happy with how mine connects as is.

I haven’t tried CarPlay since my car doesn’t come with it. I may have to upgrade that system later.
It wouldn’t hurt to try. I would make sure to save a backup in case something goes wrong.

I’ve heard about it. I have no experience with it. I heard it makes the driving more engaging. With ever BMW I’ve had though, even the non-m models, I thought the throttle response was great.

I would follow the instructions I pinned in the first comment. The realized after the video, the 2017’s is a slightly different process.

@@eddiemcars I had the same issue trying to do this last night. I have a 2017 X5 (M Sports Package). The top line starts with 2000 USER_LOG_HKL_MISC. 3020 shows APPL_Sensor

Off subject I got 2016 x5m recently changes my body domain controller now my windows won’t go down with the key fob, I tried pressing it twice like how it would work do would know what I can do also the window button from inside when I press it down once in goes down but when I press the button up it won’t go up automatically only the down works
The first thing I would do is reset or restore the backup. Something is not right in that module.

I went to code the tailgate close with my remote, and interior button. Now my tailgate won't open. How do I fix this? I have the 2011 X5.
In the event of an error, I would restore previous coding utilizing a backup from BimmerCode.
