Every year millions of books are sold on how to become rich, millions of views on this kind of video but those who read this kind of books and watch video, 99% of them can't become rich.
Tbh, the people who are capable of accumulating a lot of power, wouldn't have a need to watch these types of videos. They can figure it out by themselves, through experiences or through their interest in subjects like politics, business etc.

Shawn Ravenfire If you're talking about French and Raven's six forms of power, then "psychological manipulation" isn't part of their model. What you call "psychological manipulation" is often fooling a person into thinking he will be rewarded or punished by undertaking a specific action.
Those two are probably the most powerful tools used by those with power to gain and consolidate their power.. however I feel they are the tools of power, rather than the base of it. But I do feel they should have been mentioned in this, as they are so very important.

I've lost count how many times over the past 4 years I've come here for encouragement and insight. I've spent that time, like you suggested, learning how to read power, and am just now really starting to learn how to write power. And don't worry, my goals are pro-social, not anti-social, I have the power to be a great citizen.
That definition is not wrong, however the implication is. Using your analogy, you can always make another pizza. For example, economic power is that you have a set amount of money, therefore whatever money you give one group, is money the other groups do not get. The definition you have works like that. However it is possible for groups to create their own independent economy. As long as there are able bodied individuals they can always create more power. My problem with your concept of power is people seek to level the playing field not by creating power on the side of the disadvantaged but by taking power and redistributing it.
This needs to be seen by every teen person struggling to understand the society we live in! Any school teachers here? You have the power to help your students with the ability to think critically, make good use of it.

The most powerful Ted-Ed. I really love this video. Every Citizen of the world needs this information. This is especially true for citizens in Africa and other developing countries.
I love this kind of videos. This one is not as good as CGP Grey. It is far too idealistic. Plus, it oversimplifies things, complicates things, and gets things wrong. Numbers are not as important - how those numbers are organized is. A vocal and dedicated block of voters can hold much greater power than a big group who are less likely to vote, or simply do not organize well. And most importantly, physical power is mentioned, money is mentioned, but information is nowhere to be found. This is posted on RUclips!! This is the Information Age!! HOLY SHIT! This video is not about simply how to understand power, this video is suppose to awake every leader that may exists inside our hearts, this video its about how to care about other people, this video is about the only use of politics, the good to us all, sorry for bad english, not my mother tongue...
+Danillo Rodrigues good enough english. Yeah, I want to learn law and become a straight (not crooked) leader in politics. I want the power back in the voting majority.
+Jackson Fortune Good luck. Thats really an impossibility, and even if you do get power to a voting majority, remember the Tyranny of the Majority is just as bad as any dictatorship.
In simple term, power is said to be the ability of a person to influence others. It is defined as the ability to influence others people or things usually obtain through the control of important resources.
It's really interesting to look at power as a flowing object. It helps better understand the role of politics, not to create power, but to organize it and direct it, whether it be in the for of legislation or funding.
To think I have been thinking about this for a couple of days, then I happen to come across this video. It is insane. I agree, power it is never static. It is like a ball. If you don't have it, someone has it.
“Power is the ability to make others do what you would have them do.” Civic power 1. Physical Force 2. Wealth 3. State Action 4. Social Norms 5. Ideas 6. Numbers Of people How does it operate? Laws 1. Power is never static “So if you aren’t taking action, you’re being acted upon.” 2. Power is like water Flow how you prefer 3. Power compounds How do we apply one and two laws? Rules we set up? What can I do? Read and write power Who has the power? Why is it this way? Study strategy others have used “Organize your ideas, then organize other people.” Why power? Pro social or anti social “Power plus character equals a great citizen”
Wilson Ong what if you get arrested and labeled a felon. then u can't vote? so u r silenced politically. then u have a hard time finding a hard place to live. then u can't get financial aid for school. and u can't find a job due to political stigmas against felons. i know u might not care about people in that position, but all it takes is getting caught doing a felony and ur life will be extremely difficult from that point on. don't drink and drive.
State action (3) is identical to physical power (1) because the state will use 1 to enforce 3. And the power of ideas (5) is nonexistant unless its backed up by numbers (6) so might as well merge the two together too.
הדר הלוי Both of them dont apply at the same time but one of them always does. For example behaving according to social norms often has no threat of violence attached, but people do it anyway cuz others will like them a lot more if they do. Power is viewed as evil because of this, as there is always bribery or violence behind it.
I think all the sources of power he distinguished are often interrelated. For another example, numbers also often mean wealth like Bernie's 22$ campaign. It's just useful to think of the different aspects of power. I'm sure you could make the list longer or shorter based on how detailed you want to be.
Power is never static: If you aren't actively searching, you are being acted upon by the algorithm. Power is like water: Voting is the work of harnessing the algorithm to direct it to your preferences. Policy is power frozen: RUclips takes away the downvote button. Power compounds: RUclips becomes dominated by influencer reaction videos.
i think the same power over yourself is alot better than power over others because if i want to do something, i will do it. Plus i would be satisfied with what i have and everyone else is satisfied with what they have. In other words everybody cancel each other and becomes an automatic neutrality. We have power but we dont realize it because when we are born somebody older than us say that power is owned by a group or a government and we have to earn it. But we all know thats not true because power is not visible, its in our mind and makes part of us. In other words its a human responsibility just like spiderman famous quote " with great power lies great responsibility". And our conscious is like a measure to balance our power.
Power over my weaknesses, power over my own fallibility, power to form my own beliefs, power to form my own conclusion on matters that interests and affects me, power to reject outside influence and not blindly follow any group/person, power to always recognize my bias and assumptions and the power to keep it in check. If I can't do this then I am merely a puppet for others to use.
@Adrian Lățcan Its a sci-fi, little more towards sci-fantasy. Simple explanation: It's about a ship called the Jericho and her crew who end up finding out about a plot to start a genocidal war and try to get the information to those who'd be on the receiving end. (plot reasons they have to deliver it in person basically) They're being chased the whole time, and there's a traitor in their midst who'll nearly kill them all. It's really hard to give a quick explanation since it's barely out of the bare-bones stage. I write for fun, not like my job.
Most of the terrible things that have been done were done by people that considered themselves good citizens. Bad ideas are more destructive than bad people. The best of all worlds would be one where people are not certain they do have the right to exercise power over others. I get that sometimes it is necessary, but I wish people weren't so eager.
Such a system could be gamed by any individual who recognizes that other people aren't certain about their own abilities. Kind of like that movie where lies don't exist yet and one man becomes the first to discover them. He realizes he has significant power over other people, and struggles with understanding how to use that power. It could easily have been used to do evil things. Edit: The Invention of Lying - www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/

So let me tell you about powe- *insanely insane music starts going insanely insane*
I want the power back in the voting majority.
danilo rodríguez 100% de acuerdo con tú punto de vista.
+Jackson Fortune Good luck. Thats really an impossibility, and even if you do get power to a voting majority, remember the Tyranny of the Majority is just as bad as any dictatorship.
Don’t say the name of the Lord in vain, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand
Wow, these video not only teach us how to make a power or being great citizen but as an examples how powerful videos to change audience
Amazingly explained with perfect graphics and sound
Was really hoping for Platos' quote-"The measure of a man is what he does with power" as I started the video!!!
In simple term, power is said to be the ability of a person to influence others. It is defined as the ability to influence others people or things usually obtain through the control of important resources.
I am using this for schooling myself. Thanks! This helps because I write them in my note book so I can look back for the future
This might be the greatest video ever created.
Power definition 1:14

You’re welcome ✨
thanks very helpful!
It's really interesting to look at power as a flowing object. It helps better understand the role of politics, not to create power, but to organize it and direct it, whether it be in the for of legislation or funding.
When he said "But remember" at the end, I was so sure he was gonna say "With great power comes great responsibility" :p
Spiderman xD
This was good
@@rahmatsumantri6577 That’s Spider-Man to you! Respect the hyphen!
Fantastic Video. Absolutely stunning. The video is just as good as the explanation itself. I'm so happy to see such grand use of modern design.
wow honestly preplexed on how well you explained this, left me in awe.
To think I have been thinking about this for a couple of days, then I happen to come across this video. It is insane. I agree, power it is never static. It is like a ball. If you don't have it, someone has it.
I love how the symbol of ideas were just a dancing light-bulb, it literally made my day.
Well, figuratively.
The explanation of “power” in this video was complexly simple
This video got me inspired more than everything I have read in the past few months.
Such a powerful video. Im going to make changes around my city!
On hold for 3 hours to report abandon vehicles on my street.
“Power is the ability to make others do what you would have them do.”
Civic power
1. Physical Force
2. Wealth
3. State Action
4. Social Norms
5. Ideas
6. Numbers
Of people
How does it operate?
Laws
1. Power is never static
“So if you aren’t taking action, you’re being acted upon.”
2. Power is like water
Flow how you prefer
3. Power compounds
How do we apply one and two laws?
Rules we set up?
What can I do?
Read and write power
Who has the power? Why is it this way? Study strategy others have used
“Organize your ideas, then organize other people.”
Why power?
Pro social or anti social
“Power plus character equals a great citizen”
Power = Work/Time
nailed it

Wilson Ong what if you get arrested and labeled a felon. then u can't vote? so u r silenced politically. then u have a hard time finding a hard place to live. then u can't get financial aid for school. and u can't find a job due to political stigmas against felons. i know u might not care about people in that position, but all it takes is getting caught doing a felony and ur life will be extremely difficult from that point on. don't drink and drive.
Eddie Allen
Sorry, but I only named a physic equation?
wrong
State action (3) is identical to physical power (1) because the state will use 1 to enforce 3. And the power of ideas (5) is nonexistant unless its backed up by numbers (6) so might as well merge the two together too.
Dweliq Agreed
All power works on the threat of physical power and the promise of benefits.
הדר הלוי Both of them dont apply at the same time but one of them always does. For example behaving according to social norms often has no threat of violence attached, but people do it anyway cuz others will like them a lot more if they do.
Power is viewed as evil because of this, as there is always bribery or violence behind it.
well but #6 can also be backed by state action #3
The best video on the internet period
This is starting to become my favorite chanel they drop some real game i wish i had thus when i was younger
The most powerful man is the one who has no need for it.
Dead men have no need for power, it has been taken from them......along with everything else
Would you ask for death then?
+Sabre Cat No.... that does not logically follow my statement.
But surely you'd wish to be the most powerful?
+Sabre Cat Someone who has no need for power would lack motivation.
I just want power over myself. It starts there for a better world.
+BuShi Do But only by being at the top of the pile will nobody else have power over you.
i think the same power over yourself is alot better than power over others because if i want to do something, i will do it.
Absolutely!
Release some of your potential power and energy, then, light your hair on fire, and you will HAVE power over yourself!
The animation makes the knowledge more transferable

@@martisendrell9305 good quote
@@jefferblue Thanks, I'm glad this was bought back to my attention, I'm putting it in the book I'm writing.
1:34 I laughed so hard- the running was hilarious

Besides the excellent narration, script and animation, the music is equally outstanding.
this is one of those things that needs to be seen right now and all the time
His voice is so fitting for a video like this
Frank Underwood already teaches us what power is.
Amazing video. The animation is brilliant as always. And the explanation is really clear, interesting and concise. Thank you for making these videos.
Music was dope and rightly placed. The content was awesome off course
honesty I think this is ted eds best. ever. video.
Narrator: "The right to write"
My tounge: "the wright to right"
My brain: Now that right there is a mini tongue twister
Power resides where people think it resides.
False - power resides where a person has found the Source of Power

i thought this was common sense. Like if we all suddenly thought Trump shouldn't be president, and have the courage to act on it, he would go from 100 to 0 in a second.
I really like the animation. Good job!
I love this weird outburst of musics throughout this video. This is art! I couldn't even concentrate wheat the narrator was saying!
