need to get to Flush! i first found it in a used bookstore at the beginning of the year and it surprised me because i had never heard of it! such a fun reading month! hope you're filling in these last few days of the year with yummy books! ^0^
oh my god, i can't believe you've read macunaíma!!! this book is batshit hysterical. i'm glad you've read it in classe tho, cause it must be so hard not being brazilian and reading this! even here a lot of people find it difficult, tbh. but it's nice to know that mário de andrade is being read by non-portuguese speaking people at uni as well! and, like, i gotta say this book does feel like what being brazilian and living in brazil is like. we live with absurdity everyday, it's a bit maddening but really funny, lol
we missed out on a lot of inside jokes i'm sure ;) i too am very glad the teacher decided to globalize the curriculum a little bit! getting sick and tired of the anglo/european canon lol. i guess he succeeded in creating the brazilian hero then, that's pretty cool :)
@@readingaster yeah, i guess the canon gets a bit tiring in every language when in uni, haha. but if you ever want any non anglo/european rec, you can ask me :)
@@readingaster have you read the posthumous memoirs of brás cubas, by machado de assis? i think you'll really like it! this book is considered the "inaugurator" of brazilian realism, which is really funny cause it's narrated by a dead guy. i also recommend cortázar! i haven't read much of his work yet, but cronopios and famas is a fave!
