I was an amateur boxer and also trained amateur and pro fighters. This song often brings me to tears, especially when driving late at night. There are few songs on any subject - much less boxing - that convey the poignancy of the lines about losing in one’s home town and taking the sounds and the spray to the grave. Like everyone else, boxers lead complex inner lives. The sport - if it can be called that - saves some of us from committing violence out of the ring, while for others it’s a vehicle for resolving emotional conflicts - as this song so beautifully illustrates. Thank you, Alain, and thank you, Morrissey.
My favorite tune in all of the Moz discography. It's such a downer, yet it is uplifting and extremely relatable. Beautiful hook. Just timeless. And, any sport really, haha! It is pure magic, this one.
This song takes me back to such great memories from high school with my buddies, in our leather boots, leather jackets, denim jeans, white v neck shirts, and shiny pomps playing Moz and The Lads! Cheers
I think all these acoustic Stay at Home sessions are fantastic...especially singing while playing arpeggios - not an easy thing to do...Thanks a lot Alain !! 😊
Living is hard enough. Existing results from truth. And this song poignantly captures the feeling of both. Loathing and mocking both, an all time cynical genius from the 1600s hands the torch to the visionary writer and player.
When I was a child, my father tell me the story of Alfred the boar. Nowadays, I'm waiting for your midnight song like a little girl before sleeping. Just a kiss from Paris
I love this song's chord sequence and lyrics, and have it set as my alarm in the morning. Came here to learn it and found it's really nice to play too. I really like the picking and hammer ons on the chords. Thanks - you're a great musician.
Your sessions are amazing. I have played guitar since the 80's and the" mystery" chord in Sunny and the opening chords in Driving Your Girlfriend Home are all new to me. Thank you!
I just listened to some of these sessions, again... We are all consumed by the negative and ugly things that covid-19 produced... But, these sessions, a direct outcome of the isolation, bring about such beauty, such poetry... Especially with your voice, your interpretation... Like looking at a painting from a different angle, and loving it again as if you are seeing anew.
Dear Alain, thanks for playing, singing and oploading all these great songs. It is funny that you chose all my favourites almost in a row: Sunny, Swallow on my neck, Boxers and the Vauxhall songs (you play and sing incredibly well), which all should have been monster hits, but to many people they are and that is waht really counts!) "The edges are no longer parallel" is another masteriece which was hidden as a B-side and only the fact that Rain by the Beatles was a B-side as well may be used as an excuse! THANK YOU!
THANK YOU, ALAIN! My favourite Morrissey track- your music for this was sheer perfection. And a fabulous Safe-At-Home rendition! How about Alma Matters, Trouble Loves Me, You Know I Couldn't Last, Munich Air Disaster 1958 or It's Hard To Walk Tall When You're Small...?
Morrissey really was fortunate to have musical partners like you and Johnny Marr.
Absolutely!
I agree, but that works both ways. Imagine Morrissey putting his gorgeous vocal melodies and peerless lyrics on top of your music!
YES!!!! Absolutey🤘🏻🤙🏻💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

One of my favourite Morrissey/Whyte songs. Takes me right back to the 95 tour. Amazing ❤

Great song about patience and love. ‘The crowd call your name/ They love you all the same’. Indeed! ❤️💜🖤

Morrissey's best solo musical partner.

Thank you that really means a lot honestly. Made my day
I love this one and this partnership with Mozz. Cheers from Brazil
Great song, great musician you are, Mr. Whyte. Morrissey's solo career would not be the same without your talent and creativity.
I think all these acoustic Stay at Home sessions are fantastic...especially singing while playing arpeggios - not an easy thing to do...Thanks a lot Alain !! 😊

Top melody, a wonderful song. I never tire of listening to, and your final "falsetto" is perfect.
'This, was a huge Hit ,No Where. And it's called BOXERS'. Is kinda the official Fan intro. But perfect Alain reprise as usual. Luv U dude.
Living is hard enough. Existing results from truth. And this song poignantly captures the feeling of both. Loathing and mocking both, an all time cynical genius from the 1600s hands the torch to the visionary writer and player.
