- With 6 different series, the Pokémon anime is truly something special, right? Well some are, but some of these series could definitely be improved. That's why I'm ranking all of them from worst to best!

Xyz was legit a great series, both me and an old friend of mine, returned to watching this series as 25 year olds, considering we would watch only hardcore stuff like ReZero, and found it to be good along a nostalgia run.
I am currently rewatching XYZ after 4 years and yeah it does feel really nostalgic watching it, plus the battles and strategies they use are pretty fun to watch too. And I don't even need to talk about the best poke girl Serena do I ??❤️❤️

What's funny about this comment is the fact that towards the beginning of XY Serena questions how Nurse Joy got from one Pokemon center to another without passing her and Ash goes "but is that really the Nurse Joy you met on route 4?" So clearly at some point Ash figured this out.

XYZ was truly the best!
The only thing that I was upset about was Ash's loss in the Pokémon League: he had the perfect team, yet still lost to a Mega Charizard X...
We had waited for more than 18 Seasons for Ash to finally win a League, but no!
Still, it's such a good continuation to the anime, all the characters feel fresh and multi-layered, Ash is a mature badass and not a brain-dead child, and all of his Pokémon had the chance to shine at least once!
Yeah if they had given Ash a victory in kalos instead of Alola then it would be more reasonable because Ash seems like he is more practicing then actually battling seriously in battles

@@wandering_alaska I do agree with your statement that he should've won the kalos league insted of alola. But i think if he did win at kalos he would've had to win in alola since it's a newer league and there's not much competition.
But yeh, frankly i think he should've won at kalos for how great the series was, it would've been a cherry on top. And also i think i would've enjoyed the kalos win more than the world tournament win.

Mega Charizard X was a force of nature, it was going to win
I personally had zero problems with the animation from the first series. Maybe it’s because I was there when a lot of those episodes first debuted on American TV. But I’ve been watching it again today and I’d say it still holds up.
The first series was pretty bad compared to later generations. It’s so hard to watch and get in to. Gen 2-4 were amazing however. But Ash was a complete loser in the first generation. And his rivalry with Gary wasn’t anything compared to his rivalry with Paul. I guess I don’t see what’s so special about the first series.
@@keltdood the animation isnt great, vut it was just starting out, and as q kid i loved it. Granted, i'd only ever seen the gen 1 and gen 6 animes at that point, but it was one of my favorite childhood shows

I agree. I personally think anything after Diamond & Pearl is childish cringe material. The original and diamond & pearl are the best two series. And if Generation counted, that would be my third pick..
The only problem of XY is the ending:
1. Ash can't win
2. He and Serena are not together

Zygarde recruited Greninja to help hunt down the rest of the Red Zygarde that nearly destroyed everything. its power was still dormant under the ground and for some reason only Ash's Greninja could sense the malicious energy. The rest of the team was scattered though. Goodra went back to the marshes to make sure there was peace. Pikachu obviously went with Ash and i cant remember what happened to the others.

Even though sun and moon have some of the most mature episodes of pokemon. But no it just looks wired that's all.
Xyz just had Ash be overly serious and boring and absolutely nothing like his Sinnoh self who actually had fun and actually had a personality

SuMo the series is good in a vaccume (though seriously watch anything past DP and even DP itself with sub, not dub, the OST selection is way better,TPCI gimped way too much of the OST past late DP) the problem comes from the clash of moods between SuMo and XY, both good series in thier own right.

My favorite series was XYZ because of the story, characters, and the maturity but then I was really upset when I saw Sun and Moon it had a big downgrade in everything like characters and story with the exception of Lilly which seemed like the only character who actually grew as a character. I’m fine with Pokémon not being as mature as XY/XYZ but Sun and Moon is really cartoonish and kinda cheesy sometimes I haven’t seen Pokémon Journeys yet but I hope it’s at least better than Sun and Moon.

All of the Alola friends returned, and Korrina returned, Ash caught the evolution of a blue, slender snake with wings on its head, and a popular ghost type that has a mega evolution. He also caught a small, blue, bipedal dog, which evolved into a bigger, blue bipedal dog, with spikes. He also caught a bird with a huge leek. Oh, and he's competing in the world championships, and he's also about to compete in the Champion's League, because he is the regional champ of Alola. His first matchup is against Steven, which i doubt will go well for our boy.

@@YoungSkullKid1990 I'ts part of the original series. Gen 1 and Gen 2 are combined, along with Orange Islands. Just like Battle Frontier is combined into Gen 3's.

Was Alain really that great a character? I always thought of him as just another Tobias whose sole purpose was to prevent Ash from winning a league.
in itself all XYZ characters are bad only Clemont and Binnie are good and a little shotta the rest are very overrated
Alain actually had a backstory unlike tobias who came out of nowhere with his darkrai to destroy ash
Alain was literally introduced before Ash was, and had the most growth of any of Ash's rivals

XYZ was awesome but it felt rushed, especially during the league. Diamond and Pearl had a lot of filler but the characters were fully fleshed out and consistent. Plus, the league was far better if you forget Tobias.
The league was just cap. It was like just throw those legendaries to make ash lose. Latias and darkrai on the same team felt totally bullshit as legendaries are supposed to be very very very rare to find and have those special abilities that they can use to flee like we saw with suicune and entei and even ho oh

The Kalos league was bad, I agree. However, that Ash v Sawyer battle is my fav Pokemon battle. Also, the rest of XY was amazing and the Team Flare arc was the best pokemon anime arc imo
Kanto Ash was savage, sometimes dumb, silly like a kid, this was totally humourous and nostalgic. Ash was matured in XY but he was actually even in DP and Unova,I feel like people just overhyped XY and Karlos a lot due to Serena/ Ash. Sun and moon, Z moves was also a blast and alola region was also very nice. I like how Ash was shown as Ash in Alola, Poke- Journeys - his true personality, being funny, extroverted, silly like same of Kanto.

XY/XY&Z wasn't just a kids show, it was a full-blown shounen, just watch it with the shounen anime checklist and see how many boxes it fills, right down to the main character is oblivious to several VERY obvious advances of their female companions

It was a very close match in the Kalos league finals but in the end Alan's Mega Charizard X's experience in battle made the difference

I don't care what anyone says. I am so glad I grew up in my childhood with Pokemon Gen 5 by my side, Unova was my childhood and forever will be my favourite Pokemon anime, generation and region. I love EVERYTHING about the Pokemon anime, maybe that is just nostalgia getting in the way, but I genuinely loved that anime so much, including the characters and stories.

To be fair Alain is not some random dude in the league, he is definitely a strong trainer

XYZ is the best, but the ending is absolutely atrocious. Having Ash lose every single time to his rival and having the writers deliberately fool everyone by thinking he would finally win in the 20th season was insulting AT BEST.
Ending? That wasnt the ending. Something tells me you stopped watching after ash lost and didnt bother to watch the amazing episodes that came after it

I have a lot of nostalgia for the Black and White anime. I used to watch reruns of Diamond and Pearl but Best Wishes is when I watched it weekly (most of the time) I had no idea people say it's bad but now I get it.
When I was 9 I always excited to watch every new episode of D&P in the morning before going to school and my friends was talking about it everyday.
Having a war between team plasma and team rocket would have been awesome

@@Snikxers The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit in March, as well as the resulting Fukshamia nuclear crisis. The planned Team Plasma v.s. Team Rocket two parter had to be scraped because it was too similar in nature to what happened.

I agree with all of your entries. The X&Y series was beautiful, I really felt sad knowing that it was going to end. And of course, Paul and Ash's rivalry in DP was absolutely incredible.

MobileGaming CZ there are more darkrai, its not a legendary, but a mythical pokemon
The perfect pokemon series to me would be one that:
1. Has appearances of past characters like Brock, misty, dawn, etc.
2. Ash and other characters are mature like in X/Y
3. Story has good plot and character progression throughout with minimal filler.
4. Make battles more shounen-esc and hype like end of D/P or X/Y
5. Have ash bring back his old pokemon like in D/P for the pokemon league.
6. Basically just combine Diamond & Pearl with X & Y and you'll have an amazing show.
Let's pray for the Sword and Shield anime to be like this

Yes! Oh, and for once, a female lead who actually BATTLED. The only two female trainers were Misty and Iris. Iris was just flat out annoying and bad, while just as Misty was finally showing potential, the show cuts her off. And nobody speaks of Sun and Moon.
I personally loved Alola I felt like it didn’t need to be as serious because it wasn’t the same thing as kalos kalos was a serious show because it was about the kalos league and serious character themes Alola ash didn’t have to be serious because there wasn’t really a league to worry about for the most part and was more a vacation like escapade during story arcs and the league arc it was more serious because they were serious things I don’t think ash regressed as a character I think it was just a different situation

Frankly speaking ash came closest to reality of what hardships it is required to reach his goal of Pokémon Master in xyz
It feels like a huge betrayal after that in alola as it literally abandons the goal after all the proper hardships he suffered during kalos

As much as infernape vs electricity will forever be the best battle emotionally in the series. Greninja vs septile will always be the coolest looking one to me. The frenzy plant spam and the cut with greninja was so good

I loved xyz and the animations and the charcaters but then the characters went into a shithole and the animations got worse even though before that series, it had gotten better over time. Hell, I think b and w was better. And too much comedy. And the comedy was not that good.

season 1 will always be number 1 for me. mainly because i grew up with it. no season no matter how nice looking or whatever will replace it. im sure im alone on this and thats ok.

6.Black and white. (Because it tried to recreate everything)
5. Original series ( it had too many fillers which are boring as hell specially in johto)
4.Advance(it was good and kinda fresh to see beside ash, may also had her own journey)
3.Sun and moon( although season1 was🗑 with no direction season2 and 3 were pretty good with 3 really good arcs with alola leauge arc best)
2.Diamond and pearl (the story of ash, paul and infernape was awesome, dawn was the first character that got same attention as ash and she got good contests too my only problem was too much fillers some time)
1. XYZ ( ash and animation were at it's best along with good battles ,enemies. My only problems were Pokemon performances were a big let down and kalos leauge felt rushed as we only saw 2 proper battles)
I actually liked X&Y for 2 things:

@@em0ghenzy345 pokemon diamond and pearl was my first acquaintance with Pokemon. I was totally reluctant to let go of dawn and Brock and accept Serena and clemont. Dawn and Brock were great but Serena and clemont are totally amazing as well. Ash greninja is a lovable aspect. Sawyer and also serena's rival were so mature. Alain was a very interesting guy too. I loved the XY series.
To be honest I got so heart broken when the xy and xy&z finished and they started the Alola series. They got like some serious Downgrade

Sinnoh is the best. In all ways, character developments, rivalries, Ash's Team, they had to introduce hacks to defeat him in the league, in which he didn't even use his strongest team, so can't say that he would have lost if he had used, Pikachu, Snorlax, Infernape, Charizard, Mr.Mime, Sceptile.

Kinda funny how both DP and XY are the least liked games while their anime counterparts are one of the best. Same can be said to BW but only in reverse

@@rokia360 not at all, it was very polarising when it came out. Most people didnt like the new pokemons, triple battles etc. I remember being very confused myself when it came out cuz bw is my favourite of all time but its always been hit or miss in the community

I do want to see what the full original plans were for Gen 5. Knowing that the plans got changed at the last minute makes me a little more at ease that this anime was the worst in the series. They just needed some way to rewrite it quickly and get everyone through it. The original plans sound freaking awesome!

The animation: A lot of people say Sun&Moon animation is more fluid, better, and such, and I honestly couldn't even tell much of a difference. It's just a bit slower for the sake of fluidity. But XYZ just had some of the most beautiful looking scenes ever like Serena cutting her hair, or Greninja leaving Ash.
The music: Literally the Ash Greninja Theme or Iku-Z, is so good and iconic, that they used it for Torracat and Incineroar.
The Story: Depends what you're into.
Xy and z and diamond and pearl i think are the best series nothing will surpass them

One reason why I really liked the x and y series was because how during they made Pikachu. While it wasn't every battle, it was nice seeing Pikachu overpowering Pokemon that it should have. I also loved Pikachu vs Mega Lucario battle.
OMG Diamond&Pearl was also my first Pokemon series I watched. It was back in 2007 when I was 6. At the same time it was the first anime I think I watched in my life. 14 years have passed and I decided at the beginning of this amazing new year 2021 to re-watch this. Nostalgy is big. And Idk what I'm supposed to think of myself? I'm 20 and I enjoy watching it now ;0 But I don't care, it's great. Even if I didn't really watch earlier or later seasons of Pokemon tv series I always knew that the first one I watched (Diamond&Pearl) was the best one. I think I watched also a little bit of Black&White, but not with such interest like Diamond&Pearl.

It would have been dumb to do that. So it makes sense why they left Greninja behind. But Ash can always bring back Greninja.

Sun and moon is so overhated. I watched the entirety of both S&M and XYZ, and I feel like they are both amazing in their own ways. S&M feels a lot more unique and a breath of fresh air, but XYZ is literally the most mature and probably the smartest Ash Ketchum, making it satisfying to watch

Season 2 is my all time favorite! I love the island setting. I like how each island felt different from the other's. some islands were just beaches. some had city's, towns or villages. Some had forest and mountains. Some islands had people living their some had only pokemon. I like the unique gym battles. Ash vs drake for the orange league championship was one of the best battles in the series. Pokemon 2000 the movie is awesome and is in the oringe islands. Mandarin Island South is my favorite island it's home to many big cities and a large stadium, though much of the island is desert.

I'd agree, however, D/P/Pt was better for multiple reasons.
1: Experience. While Ash was good in both Animes, D/P/Pt Ash was using experience from Kanto all the way to Sinnoh, as he even brought back some of his all stars. You can see the growth, rather than in X/Y/Z, he was soft rebooted into an idiot in Best Wishes, and suddenly out of nowhere, he moves to Kalos and becomes a better mastermind ?
2: Team Building. D/P/Pt as I stated before, Ash used older pokemon. In X/Y/Z... he had a huge weakness to Ice, and never even thought about using older pokemon. In D/P/Pt, Ash lost, but he lost with Pikachu tied for a double Knock out with Latios, a Pokemon who has a huge advantage over Pikachu. In X/Y/Z, Ash Greninja lost to a Mega Chatizard X. Thats makes no sense

I agree so much with your list! Like in every way, I remember I grew up watching Diamond & Pearl, thanks to that series I started playing the games and loving Pokémon in general. But my god the XY series is wonderful, so great in all aspects. That character development and those mature themes were perfectly done, Ash losing the league against Alain was just writers messing things up again but what I honestly can’t assimilate still is why finally making him champion in the Alola region but not in the Kalos region? From my perspective he truly deserved that Kalos League win way more instead of the Alola league but oh well, at least they made him Champion so that’s what matters.
