Sylhot division was a part of Assam even before 1947. In 1947 India and Pakistan got independent from British empire after the war. India wanted Sylhot division to become part of India but Pakistan didn’t want that. In SILCHAR we say Bilai or Billi. However, in many parts of Barak Valley Mekur is used more. Like growing up, some of my friends used to say "Mekur" while I used to say Billi. These friends still use Mekur.
