    Disclaimer: I received the LCI awning lighting kit free of charge for the video. Other parts were purchased by me - Ray
    In this video, I'm installing a Solera LED awning light from LCI (Lippert Components INC.) The LED awning strip attaches to a special bead sewn into the Solera awning fabric. It comes with its own power switch which needs to be hooked to the RV 12VDC battery supply.
    While I'm installing the LED awning light switch I decided to also add an extra switch for the awning motor control. As I do the install/mod I explain the wiring hookups. First I add a special junction box for the new switches then splice into an existing 30A DC supply I had previously wired for my VIAIR air compressor power port. Finally, I added a 2A fuse to protect the awning lighting wires.

    If you are using the new switch.

    Another really good video Ray. I have two awnings and they both have the light strips installed by the factory. I wish they came with the ability to change colors though. I installed an after market light strip on my first travel trailer that had a remote where you could change the colors of the lights. A nice cool blue light keeps the bugs away.

    Hi, just a suggestion, I added a full color led strip to my trailer awning. I tan the power into my porch light. You can get a Bluetooth led controller that just wires into the led strip power wire. Then you can on/off the strip from your phone. Didn't know about the made slot on awning. Thanks for the video

    Pretty nice upgrade. They make it easy with the extra extrusion for the LED strip. I was debating installing one on our Trailmanor, but I've seen some other installs and they are pretty bright. I'd like some more light, but I don't want the sun at my camp at night. Thanks for the upload.

    Great mod. Concerning the awning switch that you added, I assume the power to the switch would be disconnected when moving. If not, do you run a risk of something in the bay shifting and pressing the switch?

    Two questions.
    1) Is it known what it's lumen output is?
    2) Did I miss the power draw of the light draws? It would be nice to know what the watt or amp draw is, Ray! I like this

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      I couldn't find the lumen output or wattage published anywhere.
      I did do a quick amperage measurement to know what fuse size to use and it drew about an amp so around 12 watts to power it.

    I must have missed the part where you had to deal with the extra length of the awning lights. How did you cut it and did you have to deal with the new end? Was there a cap or something to put on the end?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      Sorry I didn't show that. You just simply cut the excess off with sharp shears or scissors. I guess the LED sections are wired in parallel so it won't affect the rest of the string. There are little copper endpoints to each segment so I cut across them. store.lci1.com/media/catalog/product/e/5/e5362efabe13eb5903f721c98d66f0448c0a625a_1_1.jpg
      There wasn't any cap so I just added a bit of clear silicone rubber seal to the end or I guess a bit of tape would work too. Cheers, Ray

    Thanks for the great video. I am an RV technician and I have recently sold 2 Solara Smart Alarm Systems for insurance replacements. The awnings both worked out fine but the channel for the light strip came in a box rolled up similar to yours. Whenever I went to install it it would not straighten out and it popped off of the spline as soon as I had about 24-in fed on. I called Lippert and they advised me to try to straighten it with a hair dryer which was impossible. I ended up stretching it from one end of my living room to the other end gently heating it with my propane torch in order to get the memory out of it. Although I love the awnings and so do my customers I will never sell another one of these light strips again. Did you run into any issues like that?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      It wasn't too bad for me. The first two times I threaded it on it popped off the other end before I could get it all the way on but the third time was the charm. I also added a bit of clear silicone to both ends to help keep in place long term. It been fine for months now. Cheers, Ray

    I don't understand why a switch on the ground of the awning light. Why not just a standard SPST switch for the light ?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад +1

      Yes, with the wiring being so close to the battery bank and the lithium battery's I got have a higher voltage output than lead-acid, it really makes the motor work well! :) I actually just bought this porch light to replace my old yellowed one - amzn.to/2IxARNs It comes with clear and amber lenses and has a built-in switch. I'll put out a video soon on the install. I wanted one with a switch since I also have a porch security camera there. Cheers, Ray

      @@LoveYourRV Yes, I really noticed the awning extension & retraction speed. I bet it's twice the speed of ours.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 года назад

      @@rickbeyer6633 I noticed much better performance in all my motors like slides and water pump when I switched to lithium batteries since their voltage doesn't sag near as much as a lead-acid under load. I always knew the long wire run to the manual awning switch at the back of the RV led to a lower voltage to the motor as my wireless remote always operated the awning faster since it was a closer wire run from batteries to the motor. Now, this new switch is even better as I used a heavier gauge wire and it's a very short run.
