Have you ever noticed a bait not perform due to being warped???
Zoom swimming flukes have came kinked since 2010, I doubt a kink matters 😂. May be your attention to detail to be perfect or OCD 😂
Have you ever sent a hook with your baits?
I run 4in keitech easyshiners on 2/0 unweighted owner twist lock hooks. With no weight, I can run them ridiculously slow.
But because they're so light. Any deviation in the tail makes them run weird.
I've got an "expired" spot in my tackle box for ones that don't swim well or have the nose all ripped up from fish tearing the twistlock out. I use those to put on spinners, silver minnow spoons, and whatever else I can think of.
On that gigantic swimbait you used probably not but smaller ones, yeah. Depends on how light of tackle you use, with a weighted hook it's far less of a problem. Especially with a 12/0 hook on a 3" bait...
Can you make a vid about what molds you use I wanna get into the hobby but don’t know what molds to buy
Have had plenty bent baits never changed how it swam....Pepto bismal pink..
Haha yep
I miss Yuengling! Wish they sold them in Hawaii
It's good beer
I would tell you Yuenling sucks but I am drinking one right now. The wife bought it
My favorite non-german beer
Great Job Chris! I’ve wondered the same as you Thanks for answering the Questions! 🍻
I've always wondered about this! Nice to see it doesn't make too much of a difference...not to mention I think the fish will care 100 times less than the Angler will lol. Nice work dude, thanks for the info!
🙌🙌🙌
true! Many times in nature the "crippled" prey is selected by the hunter anyway!
Never had issues with swim baits but I have seen noticeable effects on craws that had their claws twisted up and kinked. I try to lay them out flat as best I can in packaging for customers but when I make them for myself they usually just get thrown in a bag
Yep..tangled up is inevitable
@@WorldsWorstFishing yeah for me it works good enough but I would never send something to a customer that was just thrown in a bag. I just try to save bags by stuffing as much as I can in one bag if it’s for me 😂
Do you make your own eyes? I know AI has an eye mold just wondered if you tried their eye mold.
He made a video using it
Interesting topic. Love to see some stats on actual fish catches to see if they perceive differences. I agree with those that suggest smaller swim baits (e.g. 3”) are more susceptible to flaws. I find that small rips in a 3” storm wild eye bait makes it useless, but I make a lot of ugly delaminated, dented and bubble ridden baits that work great.
I use little 4 inch paddle tails with really thin tails on unweighted twist lock hooks.
Because there's no weight in them you can run them sloooooooow. But if there's anything off with the bait. It swims sideways. Been using this setup for years. I swear there's a difference in the number of bites. When the baits aren't swimming straight.
@@john050994 Having some weight definitely helps. He said he was using a 12/0 Beast hook, which I think has a ¾ Oz weight.
Good info! I wondered the same. Seems we overthink a lot of stuff, they looked fine. Actually never saw a baitfish swim perfect either..
Yeah they performed really well
I my experience once you cast them a couple of times any "kinks" are stretched back out and it acts like all the other baits. Probably happens faster in warm water but they all get back to normal after a few cast.
Thank you for clearing this up!!
I've always wondered how bad my lures show up to someone and if it matters.
Another great video ++
Glad to help!
You should have 1 million subscribers but congrats on 90k🎉
Thanks so much
@@WorldsWorstFishing yeah
I never put much stock in my plastics being perfectly straight anyway. Like the fish are down there with a protractor checking for angles. We're dealing with small brain prehistoric instinctual creatures, not diabolical super geniuses. One of your fellow bait makers stuck some hooks on a block of wood and caught fish, which proves the point. Good video and conclusion!
I have a bottle of translucent brown m f colorant. Looks yellow. I want to get to color of coffee. Dark brown, without losing translucence. I have tried darkening with a drop of brown and black. Both turn it green. Any ideas how to get there without losing translucence.
100 drops per ounce of straight translucent brown gets me there but they end up soft because all the colorant. Any help appreciated!!!
I always thought the original molding memory would go back. The more you know.
Man, I bet if you do a worm with that crooked middle would be cool weightless. Twitching it around top of the water column.
Hello I love your channel my question is I paint rubber frogs I need to know what is a good clear coat can I put on them that won’t come off
Hye can you do red and black swimbait 😎👍 red on top black on bottom that red colour need to make really red 😎👍
Kind of a corny question and it’s not related to this video but I was thinking about it. How do you maintain your injectors? ?
hey i have a problem with making my baits when i finish cooking it, its to thick. am i cooking it for too long or not long enough?
Where do I go to buy some of your baits? I don’t have instagram
Hello friend, do you use any release agent on the silicon mold??
should let one hang on the edge of that mold, my california waters the bass will bite them no matter what
I never worry about my soft plastics. A few minutes in the sun on the deck and they will run how they gonna run no matter what. Cold storage makes a a difference, buts soon as they warm up and soften up drag in the water straightens them right out. Air bubbles and inconsistent plastic density make a much much bigger difference.
Interesting perspective..as a home bait maker, we can virtually eliminate bubbles and durometer inconsistencies
@@WorldsWorstFishing absolutely. I don't pour my own but have friends that do. I've got worms thT are 30 years old that still swim just fine
throw them in some hot water on the stove maybe boiling for a min or so and see if they will straighten out.
What OZ injector do you use?
Do have a vid how you made your peacock bass
i would love to have some tube baits that color
Great vid thank you
Went out with a guy who kept all of his baits perfect, loved clamshells, and was grilling me over pulling all my baits out of the package and pilling in a box. First cast threw it out to show him they'd work just fine and caught a fish immediately, haha
Hahaha love it
Weighted hooks definitely help w swimbaits run straighter. That 12/0 Beast hook has a fairly big chunk of lead on it. It seems to mainly effect smaller baits (tho I've seen big baits that needed weight no matter how straight they were). I'd be interested to see this with a 3-4" bait and an unweighted or 1/16-⅛ oz. swimbait hook.
And also, don't place a couple carefully in the bag. Jam 8-12 down in there, carry the bag around in your pocket for a day, and then leave them in for the sun to try & replicate major the bagging process used by major fishing Cos.
I was happy to find that they pretty perform no matter how messes I could get them..smaller bait may be different
i think if you're throwing the bigger swimbaits where an anal fin would be and a much thicker area right before Caudel fin (Tail fin) l, think it as the area of a "taint" The "Taint" is thicker in that particular swimbait. Now, if we did the bend test to the infamous BTS 603/607, I'm sure that would see some different results. The "taint" on the BTS 603/607 is a lot more delicate, which is the reason why they sell clamshells for them...cough cough "Temptation Tackle" cough cough. I like these little test, Chris. i implore you to do more. Worm oil could have been another factor with a bait. Even if they were both DOP, the plastic and the extra worm oil. The plastic can only absorb so much. This could be a fun series.!
Yeah agree...thanks for watching
How do you set the eyes?
Great video Mr. Jones! Very interesting experiment, glad to see they still swim well even if they are FUBAR
Haha yep
where can I get a clamshell for my G6?
No.
Clue i've never used clam shells
Have you found a clam shell that works for the 6" swimbait?
Nope..never shopped for clamshells
Mine usally swim better the more fish its caught and the more worn and ripped it is
Super glue and a lighter can rebuild tired plastics
Promo-SM 🤦
I love your content man, you are what actually got me into making lures, keep it up❤
Thanks man.
Second that!!
@@scotttomlinson1057 🙏🙏
With a bigger bait like shown in the video with a higher durability blend of plastic I can expect the results shown. But with small baits with much softer plastic I think there could be issues from kinking of the baits. Recently I shot some 2” grub tails with saltwater blend DOP that was left over from some 8” grubs and when I paused the bait in the water the tails would instantly snap back to the shape from the mold. Also there’s the concept of catching fishermen as well as fish.
Maybe a small bait experiment is warranted
@@WorldsWorstFishing small bait with different DOP blends?
I got this tip from an older angler. If your tails are kinkt, put some bouling water in a cup and dip the bait in it for a minute or so. Then lay them straigt and the kinks will be less.
I've always heard that as well
Are you able to make those big swimbaits without hook slots?
Yes, the slot insert doubles as a dummy insert, making them solid
Nice video
A few years ago I messed up with a dozen 3.5" swimbaits
I put them on another mold to get another pour
Flat on the back , but about 1 1/2" was hanging off the side
So when I remembered the swimbaits , they had the tail tipped up at a 45 degree angle
I gave the swimbaits a try with a 1/8 oz jig head , 2/0 hook and had great results
Fishing a bent swimbait slow gave a different action that the bass liked
So I keep a few in the box to try when nothing else seems to work
I recall a wise man saying that nature doesn't make things perfect. In my personal experience having fished all my life, I've have some of my most successful fishing days from some of the funkiest bent side eye from my soft plastics.
my DR tails get bent and the fish dont seem to mind at all 😂
Good to hear
CANT BUY BAITS SO I DONT LOOK ANYMORE
I sell my lures almost daily
They all swim great! I honestly wouldn't have guessed that. When you do the multi color pours how long do you wait between colors?
Up north, in the spring, the water is still very cold. So I use the worm blend to make the swim baits. This allows more movement of the lure. In colder waters. Just carry a bottle of super glue to get more usage out of each lure
Very interesting information man. Good to know, great video 🤙
Glad you enjoyed!
Hey @@WorldsWorstFishing would it be possible to cut a bait vertically in half and put it back in the mold and shoot a different color to make a laminate if you only had 1 injector🤔also love your vids keep up the work🤘
how do I purchase some of your stuff if available
DM me on Instagram
@@WorldsWorstFishing ok thank you
How long do you let your baits cool off after your done pouring them on the hot plate. Awesome stuff as always
Until they are cold enough to touch
Thanks man. I'm just getting started on hand pouring. I watch your videos all the time to learn it. Good stuff. Been watching for years thanks for the help
Do you make this in a trout pattern or a blue gill?
All day long
Cool
Really enjoyed this comparison because 3 inch swimbait with thin tails if there kink they don't swim as good also man that pink swimbait is sexy .
Pink is underrated
I pour stick worms and I like them with a slight bend on them I think it gives them a different motion thanks for sharing Chris
It definitely does in that case
I have never had a problem with a bait not performing like it should even if it kinked
That's a good thing
Congrats on the 90 K. This was a good one to know know. I have boiled soft plastics in the past to get kinks out.
Thanks..
I been wondering about that one brother it always has worried me about kinks in the tails because moving them from place to place at markets and yardsales and i always repack if i see some getting kinks my wife said stop that well now i know what happens with a kink thanks again brother triple j baits
🙏🙏
Can u make a realistic crawfish color in a craw mold
Absolutely...triple injector does the trick
It matters more on the Keitec T shaped tails if they get mashed and are no longer that T shape.
I'd imagine if the fundamental shape of the tail is altered then it's a problem, but twisted bodies and kinked tails probably still work. 😊
7 you have been doing videos and still going I wish I would have found your videos sooner
It's never too late haha😊
@@WorldsWorstFishing oh I have been watching for about half of the time you have been on and always want to oder from you cause you have a skill I do not lol I have tried to pour a few time but never come out as good as yours
I’ve been using some new(er) 3” paddletails and the last trip, I threaded one on a 1/8 oz jighead like normally and it kept swimming on its side. The tail was cupped from the blister packaging so yes lol
So the actual shape of the tail was changed...not just sideways or kinked??
@@WorldsWorstFishing the bottom edge of the tail was cupped forward towards the belly-The tail section of the clamshells can collapse and do this
So could you fish it like it is wounded or dying and get fish to bite?
Ive yet to check to see, ive got some caffiene shads that are almot 2 years old. Theyve been setting for a while so theyve had to gotten kinked by now. I'll get a new pack and run both for an evening n let yall know.
Good test
Thank you!
