Aqueon is cheap and it's awesome... I have had my male beta fish for 4 1/2 years now and he's fine and loves the food... but he is getting ready to leave though to go to a better place... of corse from age😪❤️... he gets his aqueon beta pellets every morning and night and aqueon beta treats on every Monday, Friday, and Sunday... my opinion that aqueon is awesome and "my fish loves it"(which is a fact)
I agree with some of the other comments saying it could be SBD (swim bladder disorder), it's basically fish constipation. You can flare him and fast him for a few days to help clear it up. I would switch out the aquarium salt for non scented Epsom salt if you can, aquarium salt is for external diseases, it can retain fluids and make SBD worse.
Ok, thanks.. I'm glad I read this. I will switch salts. , my betta had been floating in the top, in the corner four 4 days . I took him to pet smart to test his water and him. No help at all. I took to another fish store, the guy there didn't see anything wrong with him either. He stomach is not bloated. But just floats still in one corner of the tank by the heater. I don't know what's wrong with him. I have been feeding him peas every other day after passing him for 3 days. He doesn't have much of appetite. I can barely get him to eat 4 pieces of peas. But still not him self yet. Ugh.. so worried
Petco does not use those nasty vacation feeding pyramids. twice a day we feed ALL of the fish a pictures of flakes, blood worms, brine shrimp, and sinking pellets (we called it slurry, recipe changed depending on the fish we had). The aquatics specialist at the store i worked at was very passionate about fish and kept several tanks at home himself! Of course i know this sadly isnt the case at every single store, but the feeding is pretty standard for most stores
If the feeding was pretty standard at most stores, we wouldn't have a whole rack of Bettas dead at the store. If they were at least getting fed, and not skinny as hell because of lazy ass employees, they'd all be fine
Your betta will be just fine for a week without food :) Also I'm not gonna lie. You kind of made me giggle because you trash talked aquaeon and then suggested the aquaeon conditioner
That happened to my fish! Over time he got better! I did a 100% water change and fed him 1 extra pellet at night. That made him swim more. He still swam at the bottom of the tank though. So I switched him to a larger tank! Did a 80% water change and gave home 1 extra pellet at night for 1 month. He is now better than ever. Please tell me if this works, or if you will be doing it!
thanks for your comment! i had already done an 100% water change and put stress coat & aquarium salt in his new water but it didn't seem to help. i'm sure when i get his new tank it won't be a problem i just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything deadly
+Natalie Lauren He might be aging or he might have a disease. Is he showing any other symptoms like red gills or heavy breathing. The water changes and additions to the water will just stress him out even more. Also, aquarium salt is not good for bettas, because prolonged use could cause organ damage and lead to death. Do a 50% water change and get a testing kit. ammonia should be under 0, nitrite should be 0, and nitrate should be under 10.
if you feed your Betta 2-3 times a day in small amounts will keep a Betta digestive system active and give Betta more energy this might prevent SBD. food that the first ingredient is flour might cause SBD.
It doesn't matter if you have a Betta, or whatever in a freshwater tank, Seachem Prime is the best water conditioner in almost every single case, although I have never actually used the conditioner in this video, unless it detoxifies nitrites and ammonia Prime is definitely a better choice (it also adds a slime coat). If someone has a different opinion please reply. :)
Prime is definitely awesome but I also have one from Pisces (I think it's called Pisces complete) that does the same thing and seems to work very well too. I use it in all my betta tanks and my tropical community tank too. :)
Dilan you probably won’t see this but I use API stress coat or something it adds a slime coat too and you use very little compared to Aqueon betta bowl plus.
Prime is good for ammonia spikes and cycling, but besides that its not necessary. Plus i dont run carbon on my filters so the sulfides in prime linger in my tanks and make it smell like crap.
"Going to petsmart and buying all those aquiam products" (don't know if I spelled that right) but it's so relatable with rabbits and most Kaytee products
Great video, very informative! Just a couple things I thought I would mention, while bettas love blood worms, it can cause bloating and constipation so I would feed it sparingly only as a treat and even then rehydrate it in a little bit of water before feeding it to him. Also, when you run out of your current water conditioner you may want to give Seachem Prime water conditioner a try because it not only eliminates chlorine and heavy metals from the water but it also neutralizes any ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in your tank. As far as what's wrong with your betta, have you tried moving around his decor or perhaps adding something new to his tank? In observing my bettas over the years, I personally believe they can get bored when their environment is constantly the same. If he is eating okay and isn't showing any physical symptoms I wouldn't think he is actually sick so I would give that a try and see if it helps. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing more of your videos soon!
@@Nevraumontfitness A Nasty and painfull desease where the fish gets bloated ,its scales gets 90 degrees angle and makes it look like pinecone. Its caused from internal liquids build up from a kidney failure or an infection. Its very difficult to treat it.
Do you have a video on how you set up those sponge filters!? I have an air stone bubbler and I heard you can attach a sponge filter to these but I don’t know eeeekkk
Hey Natalie, I've been having some problems and concerns with my betta fish Astro. So I just upgraded Astro's tank from a minibow 1 gallon to a 10 gallon tank with everything new. Astro is also the only one in the tank while I'm planning on adding painted glass fish or neon tetras. But my concern is when I turn off the light at night, I sometimes turn the light on in the middle of the night to check in on Astro and his entire head area turns white. But during the daytime with the light on, his head turns back to black. Would you know what's going on? Astro is a double tail royal blue male BTW.
That's completely normal. My betta dulls in color when he sleeps. He's normally a bright blue, and at night he becomes a greyish color. As long as your betta isn't white during active hours, then you have nothing to worry about. This can also happen to many other species of fish.
exactly what knittingkitten said, you probably just caught them when they were sleeping. baldwin loses color while he is sleeping and when i wake him up he usually swims around his tank bumping into the wall and acting really confused 😂
Can you please answer this question my Betta likes to sleep on the rocks is that ok or bad he still swims around a lot I just want to make sure he's ok
+Natalie Lauren I'll try but for now I can't afford one and I fell bad for the betta fish that I saw and then It caught my attention so I had done some research but on how to care good for one but I'm planning to upgrade its tank to a 30 gallon that my friend will give me soon but for now I need the 1.5 gallon
With a 1.5 gallon you should do a whole water change every day, even if the water doesn't look dirty it's still full of ammonia. You really should get a bigger tank with a filter and heater. I would suggest a 5 gallon at least for your beta to be happy.
I switched my Betta tank from a 1.7 gallon to a 5 gallon and he doesn't hide by his filter or lay on the floor as much. Also give him a day out the week you don't feed him. It helps keep there digestion system in top shape with no back ups. I'm a new Betta mom as well . Five months new ! Great video 💗 I'll be trying some of your recommendations since my guy doesn't seem to care for the aqueon Betta food . Edit: just realized this video is 6 yrs old lol now I gotta check your recent vids.
My dog got into my blood worms and ate them too!! I was like why though, what made you even remotely interested in chewing open the container and eating all of the blood worms? -.-
Fin rot comes from bad water parameters and not changing it often, overfeeding can be a problem because more waist is In the water which creates ammonia and then to nitrate that being said nitrate levels may be too high so do abt 50% water changes weekly.
Bhanusree Chelli freeze dry doesn't have parasites and such. Just make sure you soak freeze dried food for a few seconds before feeding your fish so they expand before the fish eats it and not in their stomach
Birby The Birb sounds great!!! The only thing I'd say do different is use floating pellets rather than flakes because the flakes create more debris than the pellets do. It makes more of a mess. Also make sure you have a filter and a heater in your tank the water should be between 78-80 degrees because that's what it's like in their natural habitat. It also makes them way more active than in room temp water.
if you have a 2.5 gal tank a small 10 watt heater should be enough for it just make sure you check the temperature since the smaller heaters dont have a adjustable heater where it turns on and off. I have a 25 watt heater adjustable for my 5.5 gal tank and it works really well, i can keep the tank at 78f and if the water gets cold it turns back on and heats the water up until it reaches my ideal temp for my betta.
I have a question. My betta, eggplant gets excited when I do a water change. I do it once a week because I have a one gallon tank. He stays excited just that day I do the water change. In between changes he stays at the bottom and does not swim much. Is there a reason for this? I know the tank is clean. So its not that. Could you know why this is happening?
I think your fish just have a lil break or a nap at the bottom. My fish usually sleep on the bottom lol and then I bought him a leaf accessory thingy that you put on the glass,so now he always resting on top of the leaf and not on the gravel.
i highly recommend a brand "repashy" you make it by adding water you can freeze it or cook it in the oven and make it a slow release food described as a jerky both on the container and by the pet store employees (from a nice small store) - i crush up some dried brine shrimp in or some blood worms for a little added goodness. also it doesn't contain gluten or anything so it's gluten free and that makes me feel better cause i have celiac disease and it comes in a variety of different types like you can buy stuff for shrimp or for bottom eaters
they sure can! if you're making the dividers yourself, make sure they are double mesh. however, keep in mind that the ideal shared tank size should be 10 gal or above. they could do okay in a divided 5 gal, but the ammonia build up wouldn't be worth it.
my halfmoon betta does that too and hes been fin biting coz his fins are so long and heavy. i put him in a smaller tank where he can easily move around and go up for air. its either his fins are weighing on him or hes bored. bettas get bored too. i got 2 other koi betta plakats and i something remove the boards so they can see eachother so they wont be bored. after i got the 2 koi bettas my half moon has been active and eating more as well. coz before he would just staystill or stay by the filter intake but not anymore.
Remember you video 3 years ago lol haha your tutorial on how to set up a tank for the fish did u make a mistake please tell me just in case I do the wrong this with my fish !
I have a very similar aqueon tank to her (mine is 5 gallons.) - it's okay as a starter but there is one major problem, the top lid has a feeding hole that doesn't have a cover - and bettas are known jumpers. - If I would have noticed that I wouldn't have gotten it but just placing a cloth over fixes that even if it doesn't look very nice.
Could it be a condition called dropsy? I know solid gold aquatics had her goldfish fish room invaded by something like that. Maybe it could help to check into?
Do you have a heater in there? I don't remember if you said. Bettas natural habitat is like 78 degrees, so if their water gets too cold, they can slow down and become lazy and even not eat as much as they should. I didn't actually know this myself until recently, and am getting my Lux a heater soon, as well as a larger tank. Also, they have these little leaves.. betta beds or betta hammocks or something. Apparently bettas like to have a spot they can lay and rest. The suction cub to the side of the tank and you but them not too high up but close-ish to the surface so they can go to the surface to breathe.
I have the topfin water conditioner in the thumbnail and it works great and it makes the water so clear I love it. It was like five dollars but its worth it. I have a 5.5 gallon tank and I use half a mL and I just love it
I'm planning to get a betta fish on my bday! Soooo... I'm wondering how much all the tank stuff and water conditioner etc cost, so can someone tell me how much it all cost or cost around?
Its probs too late but i rly hope u bought a heater, filter, and at least a 2.5 gallon. I wouldnt recommend buying any fish stuff from Walgreens. They abuse their fish and their fish products aren't reliable.
See I got my first fish and it's a betta fish and I use the food that you showed first a a bad product and my fish loves it. Should I change it or no. Btw I got him two weeks ago
Maybe get your Betta a leaf bed. It has a suction cup, you attach it to the side of the tank, about 2 inches below the water surface. They sleep on it, and don't wear themselves out swimming to the surface for air. Its very common to have the beds now.

Just because a betta can live 1 week with no food does not mean it should. You can go a week with out eating but see how you feel.
You can go a week with out food but does it mean you’ll enjoy it
Not a week but as days go by without feeding eventually it will move again hungry for food instead of being full

How frequently do you change your filter in the mini bow 2.5
Hey Natalie I was wondering I am getting a 1.5 gallon tank and I don't know how much of a percentage of water do I have to change
why are you getting a 1.5 gallon? why not a 2.5 or bigger?
+Natalie Lauren I'll try but for now I can't afford one and I fell bad for the betta fish that I saw and then It caught my attention so I had done some research but on how to care good for one but I'm planning to upgrade its tank to a 30 gallon that my friend will give me soon but for now I need the 1.5 gallon
At least 50%; 100% would be optimal. A filter is optional.
With a 1.5 gallon you should do a whole water change every day, even if the water doesn't look dirty it's still full of ammonia. You really should get a bigger tank with a filter and heater. I would suggest a 5 gallon at least for your beta to be happy.
Kaylee no I got a 5.0 instead cause I waited so save up money
Can I use the aqueon tank you have for a goldfish?
no, goldfish need at least 20 gallons!

It also makes them way more active than in room temp water.
Cant wait for you to get a new tank!
same
What is the tank is the background? :)
Do you use a heater? If so which brand/watt?
if you have a 2.5 gal tank a small 10 watt heater should be enough for it just make sure you check the temperature since the smaller heaters dont have a adjustable heater where it turns on and off. I have a 25 watt heater adjustable for my 5.5 gal tank and it works really well, i can keep the tank at 78f and if the water gets cold it turns back on and heats the water up until it reaches my ideal temp for my betta.
What is the fluvel product called and does it help with the strong current of the filter?
The vacation food isn’t supposed to DISSOLVE. Your betta swims down and nibbles on it when he likes. It’s like a block of food.

How did you feed your fish when you were on that trip because I have one coming up and I don't know what to do P.S. I love your videos☺️👍
Are aqueon tanks ok?
Alyssa Arts I have two glass ones for my two male bettas and they're great
Alyssa Arts never get the Betta falls tank tho, it's a death trap for bettas
Sokie
oh no im not gonna get one specially for betta's cause usually they are quite small
When are you going to past again?
+Natalie Lauren it is usual for bettas to lay on the bottom of the aquarium but try to do a 50 percent water change every now and then
Could it be a condition called dropsy?
Hey... so when are new videos coming out? Because I really like the content on this channel but could you please post more often... Thanks.
Hello Willow shes back
Love bettas got a whole wall in my room, love you too 😍
I have the topfin water conditioner in the thumbnail and it works great and it makes the water so clear I love it. It was like five dollars but its worth it. I have a 5.5 gallon tank and I use half a mL and I just love it
Did the fish die? Is that why u not making vids anymore?
This is to any better owners I want one is there any advice for a new Berta owner??
From face expression looks like you are betta fish, after eating your fish food!
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDSSS!!!!!!!
I'm planning to get a betta fish on my bday! Soooo... I'm wondering how much all the tank stuff and water conditioner etc cost, so can someone tell me how much it all cost or cost around?
ScraftyBinBox it's not that expensive. You can even buy it all at Walmart. But don't go too cheap/unknown brands
I'm late but do NOT GET top fin
Kiki K I got a top fin 2.5 gal tank SOOO still good?
+Le.Jackie just be careful. They do most of their work fur money and use cheap materials.
Its probs too late but i rly hope u bought a heater, filter, and at least a 2.5 gallon. I wouldnt recommend buying any fish stuff from Walgreens. They abuse their fish and their fish products aren't reliable.
When u gonna post again?:(
What tank do you have ????
I just found your channel, I love it! Subbing!
Can you use the fluval pre sponges for a top fin filter to??
What brand filter and how much does it cost
COME BACK AND POST VIDEOS PLEASE
WHY ARENT YOU POSTING VIDEOS?
See I got my first fish and it's a betta fish and I use the food that you showed first a a bad product and my fish loves it. Should I change it or no. Btw I got him two weeks ago
Nilesballer it is very un healthy
It may also be because of old age but other wise he is fine
Maybe get your Betta a leaf bed. It has a suction cup, you attach it to the side of the tank, about 2 inches below the water surface. They sleep on it, and don't wear themselves out swimming to the surface for air. Its very common to have the beds now.
aqueon fertilizer is pretty good, though! i recommend it (the all-purpose aquarium fertilizer)
Biggest fan love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Can you do some more of these!? Pleaaaseee
Where did you purchase your tank? I actually love it oml 😍
Never mind I'm dumb I found the video about your tank 😂
