It's probably just because of the myriad of Zoo formats, tbh. I'm excited for TOSS format because that was just before I started playing and I was kinda surprised that it lasted as long as it had.
Cuz games just aren't fun to watch anymore like with 5ds era and earlier. Combos, quick effects, negates, hand trap, full board then a board wipe followed immediately by another full board, etc. Honestly, I fast forwarded halfway through this and haven't been very engaged since pendulums came out.

It was banned preemptively. Tryant Neptune never saw play until Independent Nightingale was _about_ to come out, and the OCG had the FTK, but the TCG said "no fun allowed" and here we are. Meanwhile in pendulum land about 1 year later.... 😒
When I started to catch up with yugioh after my hiatus I've heard a lot about Tyrant from Duel Logs. He made it look like the strongest card ever made lmao. Don't get me wrong, the combo represents a 2tk but I don't think it would have been the best deck around. As almost any crazy ftk strategy it requires your opponent doing nothing and winning the die roll.

And all of this was without mentioning True Towers. To this day, it's my most hated deck (not to play against), out of sheer spite.
Unironically a great format, True Draco playing a slow control game before they started packing the deck with floodgates is pretty fun and Zoo is your classic combo deck but it ends on a pretty fair board. Imperial Order is the only thing really standing out in it.
