Health care assistants do feeding, making sure patients are drinking enough, cleaning and washing patients, mobilising very heavy complex patients either by hand or by hoist, taking blood sugars, taking obs such as blood pressure, pulse etc, ecg’s, dealing with complex issues with patients and families, taking out cannulas and even inserting cannulas once doing a training course and so so much more as well as being verbally, physically and sometimes sexually abused by some patients for £12 an hour.
I’ve only been doing the job for 5 months having previously doing an admin job in nhs on the same pay grade but a lot less stressed. I changed jobs as I want to care. Medical staff are woefully underpaid decided by a government who are woefully overpaid for what they do, shameful!

It wont make a differnece if its Tory, labour or any of the other major parties. They're all stooges with the same agenda. We need a proper reform, new parties, who are held accountable rather then playing party politics, with politicians who are paid minimum wage because they want to do the job not because it affords them a generous wage which doesn't reflect the work they do.

If people in the NHS all worked to rule the whole system would collapse. I don"t know anyone in the NHS who isn't covering the work of two departed colleagues for a laughably low salary. If the overseas nurses stop coming it will be even worse. The doctors have been leaving the UK for over a decade which has led to long waiting lists and the need for more Advanced Practitioners instead. HCAs are taking the responsibilities that nurses once took. It is the long waiting lists that have created the dissatisfaction once people get into treatment they are usually happy with their treatment.

I dont think the 1st caller explained her self properley. Yes patients respect the nurses for the extra jobs they do, but you are never able to get any answers cos you cant speak to a Doctor. The nurses do a grand job for the most part, but they do the job without being able to tell you what the results or your issue is.
The number of times I have had a great nurse do a blood test, but when I ask about the results I'm told book an appointment with your GP which will take 4 wks to get an appointment!! Its shocking

Memory is never to be trusted as opposed to the objective present and is prone to spectacles of a rose tinted variety. @@coldteasoundsYes I fully accept that my personal opinion doesn't equate to "all fact". But having been an adult in the 80s and having seen successive governments since Thatchers ruin, it IS demonstrable, catacorical FACT, that under Labour governments spending and investment on ALL public services - including the NHS, increases massively. It is also demonstrable FACT, that public satisfaction of public services has always been vastly higher than when a Tory government has been in office. That's not opinion, it's counting.
