    I ordered an RP3+ last month. I figured I'll make my way through all of the N64 catalog that I never got to play as a kid, and then replay some PS2. By the time I'm done, the $250 and down market will likely be able to emulate better consoles and ill consider something new. I want it to fit in my pocket, I don't mind waiting on the tech since I have hundreds of games to play on consoles I couldn't afford as a child.

  • @helplmchoking
    @helplmchoking 10 месяцев назад +3

    Something to consider, if you're like me and are a little young to have played things like the SNES or Genesis etc. back in the day, but old enough to remember when the PS2 was the best thing in the world - your phone is potentially an excellent way to dip your toes in and try out these older games before throwing money at dedicated devices.
    For example, my Galaxy S21 Ultra - despite having an objectively worse processor for emulation compared with newer devices or those with Qualcomm chips - runs GBA, SNES, Genesis and more flawlessly. I've put about 70 hours into Pokemon White/White 2 via the Drastic emulator and had a blast!
    Your experience will depend on your device, but I've recently upgraded to a Fold 5 - which still fits in my GameSir controller, but with an enormous 4:3 screen and way more power - and it's awesome. Don't feel like you have to spend money to try these things out, grab a $30 phone controller (or use an Xbox one) and give it a shot

    Definitely a lot of options. Something to keep in mind, if you're just a fan of retro games, and by retro I mean primarily 2D pre 1998 stuff, any of the mentioned sub $70 devices will work wonderfully. You definitely don't need to spend more than $70 for retro emulation.

      So, I'm definitely new to this retro gaming deal. I've been out of the gaming world since I had kids a decade ago. I'm gonna pick up one of the cheaper handheld. • @Agumon5

      @@Josh-lq5rw I probably wouldn't even recommend a Miyoo Mini at this point. The new Mini + has replaced the original because they ran out of parts to make the original. Don't expect the actual mini to be back in stock again. I would actually probably recommend the ANBERNIC RG35XX. It will be much easier to pick up than any of the Miyoo devices, you will not have to pay scalped prices, and it basically works exactly the same as a mini plus. You can even install a similar custom operating system, Garlic OS. In terms of getting games, I've never used a Chromebook, so no idea.

    Can we all just agree that the Retroid Pocket 3+ is so appealing? Like, I couldn't resist at that price and ordered one just based on the beautiful design and color schemes + the fact that it's literally an android device with eye candy controllers built in and I currently have an iPhone. And they just recently did a firmware update that improves the GameCube performance so now I can imagine that it will get even better in the following months. And if they release a Retroid Pocket 4 in the next few months and it looks similar but with improved performance for $200 or so I'll still buy it. Even if it's upwards of $300 as long as I can run most GameCube games flawlessly I'll be super happy especially if the battery life is anything like 6+ hours.

    I started tuning into your videos during the early days of your reviews, and you haven't steered me wrong. I'm absolutely loving the look and concept of the latest Anbernic; the 405 just looks amazing. Unfortunately, I won't be able to afford it for a bit and my last anbernic was stolen -- pesky thieves. But fingers crossed for the future. Keep up the great work man!

    As somebody who has dabbled in emulation on old phones and tablets back in the day but rarely messed with any of this stuff, you’ve taught me so much my friend. Thank you.
    I recently wanted to play all my old gameboy and GBA games and was holding out for an Analogue Pocket but gave up on waiting and decided to get the Retroid Pocket 3+ and I gotta say it has taken all of my gaming time up once I got my library loaded in. I even got into psp games since I never had one. My PS5 is collecting dust because I’m so obsessed with my retroid. It even fits in my front pocket.

    Thanks to one of your previous videos i got into Retroid Pocket 3+. My hopes for getting a decent PSP/NGC/PS2/3DS emulation was enough to justify the 150 usd pricetag.
    3DS Emulation on this badboy is hit or miss. But Ps2 and Gamecube works surprisingly well. Gamecube is a bit trickier, i switch between Dolphin, Dolphin MMJR2 and Dolphin for handheld. Most game i've tried works good enough this way. Especially "Dolphin for handelds" downscale function.
    Ps2 and AETHERSX2 on the other hand have worked with 30 of 30 (tested) games so far. In worst case i've needed to downscale a bit. I only use PAL backups. Due to the framerate difference, PAL is easier on the hardware.
    PSP works perfectly on this console. The most i've strained the software was with Outrun 2. 5x resolution upscale and 2x texture upscale. 60 fps through and through.
    Thanks for another great video.

    i own the retriod pocket 3+ for emulation up to playstation 2 (Aethersx2 was the most stable emulator for me with no problems so far compared to the previous PCSX) on the go and the steam deck for games like cyber punk and fordza horizon, and some PS3 emulation on longer shifts at one place while at work. i really like that i can finally play Monster hunter portable 3rd with it being 90% translated to english by the community for the first time on the go. thanks for giving these devices some spotlight, i appreciate your content on these and im looking forward to the future of emulation with your channel.

    I just pulled the trigger on a steam deck, and some of this channels content helped in that decision. The deck being such an open platform lends itself to a wide range of uses beyond gaming. While the battery life isnt the greatest compared to the other handhelds, that it can run off a battery at all and recharge off usb puts it above PCs in other use cases including emergencies or low power living.

    As a retro game enthusiast, I'd recommend the Retroid Pocket 2+. Not only does it have great power but also costs only $99 (the same price as an anbernic rgxxxx can't remember the model). It emulates some of the tougher consoles like GameCube and Dreamcast and even the 3DS (somewhat). I'd say its an A on my retro list. It is an excellent example of retro gaming handhelds.

    • @RetroGameCorps
      @RetroGameCorps  Год назад +8

      Unfortunately Retroid stopped selling the 2+ (I assume as they focus more on the 3/3+ devices), and so now it's quite expensive elsewhere (about $140 on Amazon). And so at that price the more powerful RP3+ starts to make more sense for just a little bit more.

    I was getting into handheld gaming because my back is starting to hurt from all the years spent gaming on a desktop, but ever since I saw how everything is easily emulated on the Steam Deck (even some lighter PS3 games run flawlessly on it) and how the software is advancing rapidly, I didn't think about spending my money on anything else. The Steam Deck is cheap, easy to setup, and can do basically everything. I'll only run my desktop for AAA games that are hard to run.

    Loved the video and music. One thing that would be useful is to give some perspective for these devices. I think your whole point of view would use these handhelds as a standalone console. I think that an ayaneo 2 or GPD win 4 can fully replace a pc with a dock and eGPU, this is something unique to x86, like android handheld can play the android ecosystem scams (I mean, "games")

    Thanks for thee video. I am not new, but I tend to watch most of your videos anyway. One other device I'd mention is the Evercade. It's for users who want to physically own the games they play. The downside is that your limited to owning the games that have been released so far. You also obviously have to buy the games though they're pretty cheap. You'll get a cartridge for like 20$ that will have 6-12 ish games on it.
    My favorites are the rg353, the evercade, and a gba with an ips screen mod.
    Cheers.

    I don't get much time to game so investing in one of these handhelds seems like a luxury. That said I recently bought a cheap bluetooth clamp controller and slapped it on the midrange phone (moto g stylus) that I bought 2 years ago for $200. The controller looks great and feels fairly good in most regards and my phone is strong enough to play PS1 games at 2X resolution while maintaining a good framerate.

    Rad man. Might also be worth covering cloud PCs as it saved me a ton of up front cost in the x86 category. I’m using Shadow PC on my iPhone for $30/month + $100 for a Backbone controller (lowest input latency) and I’m cycling between Hogwarts Legacy for PC, PCSX2 and Citra and they all run flawlessly. Only caveat so far is you need to be on Wi-Fi or have very strong cell service
