Finally a recipe I can get behind. If I see one more saying "use vanilla extract that is from Madagascar that was extracted by hand" or "use only the best sugar that you can only get online sourced from some far off country" so the ingredients for sugar cookies will cost you about $200 to make I will scream! Lol. I love to use imitation vanilla extract and hated feeling guilty about it.

I used to think it had to be the real extract. I would even try to tell my mother she wasn't using "the right stuff." Recently I watched a video where a guy did a very thorough test with everything from imitation to vanilla beans. He determined that it makes zero difference in cookies. Wish I could tell my mom she was right.

Oh, you should try using almond extract-- Yum! I have always followed my Betty Crocker cookbook (circa 1974) sugar cookie recipe, which calls for that. It really makes them taste special. Plus, almond extract is clear so you can add it to your icing, too.
Oh! And about possible spreading when the cookies bake, if that happens, don't panic. Just, right out of the oven, use the same cookie cutter to trim them. But it has to be immediately after they come out. Then to use up those trimmed bits, crush them and add enough buttercream icing so they stick together and roll them into balls. It's sort of like a cake-pop, but with cookie crumbs. You can even dip them in left-over icing to coat them. :D
Another tip I just learned is, instead of rolling the dough in flour, roll the dough between two pieces of plastic wrap. It saves all that mess and, if you're making a cookie house (gingerbread or sugar cookie), it helps keep the area in line since you need to have them an oblong size. I love it!

So simple and yet so INCREDIBLY BRILLIANT at the same time. I’m going to make at least two batches of this recipe. I need to make heaps of cookies. Why, you ask? Couple dozen fancy decorated for my wife’s work place. (Yes I’m showing off, and the added benefits I get from my wife are well worth the time!!! 🤔🤫😈😈😈😈) We need some for various get together for Christmas. Most important reason. Putting a tarp on the kitchen table with 3-4-5? Dozen of plain cookies to decorate. Having assorted Colors of icing frosting made, and of course (this is most important) multiple types of sprinkles to use. My three grand babies (12F, almost 4f and 4M (twins, or the gruesome twosome)) having a blast decorating said cookies.

I've been bingewatching you channel for the last few weeks and want to try my first sugar icing cookies. I've made a fair bit of cookies in the past and usually use a 1:2:3 ratio of powdered sugar, (cold) butter and flour (no eggs). They turn out very nice but for my decorated cookies i wanted to use your recipe. It is a loot different than all the recipes I have ever seen in the german speaking yt world. I used room temperatur butter and eggs and the dough is waaaay too soft. I added quite a lot more flour to it than your recipe but i think it'll still be rather soft even after having it in the fridge for a few hours. Did i do smth wrong?
I checked for each of the ingredients what they would be in grams and got the following:
    - 454g Butter
    -600g Sugar
    -4 eggs
    - pinch of salt
    - 720g of flour
    - 15g baking powder.
I probably ended up using at leat 850g of flour. I hope they will still turn out ok, i hate wasting so much food

Did anyone had a confusion in the amount of butter? She shows in the video 454g bar of butter but that is not 2 cups of butter and I didn't know unit I check what went wrong with my dough, at the end I just added more flour until the consistency made sense.

Ok so I made this recipe and I used a regular hand mixer and it came out too soft nothing like it’ll the way you made it , I need to invest on a kitchen aid so I ended up adding a little more flour and have it in the fridge . Not when you say chill for 15 min do you mean regular fridge or the freezer??
Again I’m new to this still learning . I had it in the fridge for 15 min and r really didn’t do much just a bit sturdier . Ugh 😣 wish me luck I’m hoping they come out good

Not necessary! You can even mix it by hand it’ll just take a little extra muscle

Very low! I think a 1 or 2 and I only mix until combined and then finish up by kneading slightly on the counter.

I would recommend adding a half cup of flour; sometimes different climates can alter the recipe a bit

Can you make this and freeze the dough? What is your method of thawing? Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent and knowledge! ❤️

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 года назад +4

You sure can! If you’re freezing, I highly recommend rolling it out to the appropriate thickness and laying them onto baking sheets in the freezer if you can. That way you don’t really have to thaw at all! You can just cut your shapes. If you don’t have the space, I would just flatten them as much as you can and thaw for about 20 minutes or so left in the plastic wrap. 🥰
