    I have seen only one decent review of this bike and there are not many decent videos either.
    Few Dual Sports get my attention. The Suzuki DR200 SE is one of them. This bike is not new by any stretch of the imagination. It arrived on the streets when CD's were replacing vinyl, and Johnny Carson was still hosting the Tonight Show.
    This has been one of few bikes that have been able to stand the ravages of time. Suffice to say, time has almost literally stood still for this bike. Sure it's not fuel injected, and sure it's still air cooled, but who cares ? Because it's still getting better fuel economy than probably %90 of the current fuel injected liquid cooled bikes out there.
    What surprises me is the Yamaha XT250 (then 225) didn't make the cut and I have always wondered why because it's a good bike too yet is over $1000 more.
    Motorcycle-USA.com gave this bike a huge thumbs up. They put it in a comparison with 250's which I thought was bizarre. This should tell you something about how good this little dual sport really is.

    Bought this for $1400 and got the air box mod, bigger pilot, DG pipe, renthal handle bars, hand guards etc. Best and most fun bike I ever owned and I also own a ninja 636 and still sadly love this bike a lil more. It's SOOOO simple to fix yourself, lightweight, and still has a lot of pep in it's step for 200ccs, you definitely wont be disappointed in it :)

      I think this is the most over-looked bike on the internet. I hear you can get them brand new for like $3,600 doll hairs. The 250's are almost $5 g's For me it's a no brainier. I love this bike.

      lol I commented on this assuming you dont watch my videos my bad, well I hope at least my vids show you how much fun it is, just be aware i got -3 teeth on the rear sprocket which took all the good power out, gota change that up lol

      Yeah I watch : ) .. but i covered this bike Looooong before you got yours. I first noticed it last year.
      I sold my little Honda Metropolitan Scooter I should have got this to replace... now I don't have anything .. My Triumph is in the shop currently waiting for it to get fixed. I want a slower bike because too much adrenaline can't be very costly. lol.

      Renthal bars are awesome. Yeah get that Stocker sprocket back on there you'll notice a big diff. Outside of that doing dramatic mechanical upgrades will comprise reliability ..

    Went to the honda/Suzuki dealership the other day and saw this bike and liked the look of it and the guy let me get on it and see how I liked the feel(I'm 15). It was comfortable and I was flat footed. Talked to the guy and he really helped me out with info and such. This is goin be my first bike and I don't need a 250cc, 200cc is just fine because the streets around my house is only from 35-50 mph. Plan on getting it in the next week,week and a half and will prob keep it for a while till I feel sure of myself to get a 400 or 650. I will stay will a dual sport because I like the way they feel. This review has really helped to make sure I was making the right decision. Thanks

    We really enjoy our '96DR200; a great family dual sport. Very capable in a variety of roles: trainer, dual-sport riding, errands, touring...whatever. Easy to work on. Stone simple & reliable . Great gas tank capacity.
    Random thoughts after a few thousand miles and several years:
    For any riding other than mild riding in rocky off road conditions...add a bash/skid plate to protect engine cases - they stick out from frame are and are not well protected.
    The OEM front sprocket is great for any type of off road riding. Change to 16T for better speed & RPM match for street riding/dual sporting.
    Want to stiffen up the front end a bit...refer to owner's manual and replace the OEM fork spacer with one longer (try 3/4 PVC pipe)...add 1/2-3/4" then test ride.

    I was able to talk my dealer down to 3,000 cash for a new DR200 with .2 miles on it. I'm loving this bike and would recommend anyone that wants one to get it. I just did the first oil change on it, and it took a whole 1L of oil and the filter (OEM) was $8. I'm getting about 120mpg ( soft rider and 180lb). Cheap, fun, and reliable!

    I just got a 2013 DR200 SE, it looks just like that one. I love the bike. I was going to get a KLR250 but when I saw this bike I had to have it. It definitely has enough power for a beginner rider. I'm so glad I didn't pass the bike up. Also good vid.

    I want to mention, if you buy or own one, make sure to take the cover off of the air cleaner box. You get to it by taking the seat off first. Wow. you will get more power and a much throatier sound out of it.

    I down graded from a Honda sabre 1100 to the 2004 dr200 a couple of days ago. I did it to cut cost and wanted to commute to work. First impressions, I felt like a wiffle ball being blown about but other than that it is really easy to work on. It is light and maneuverable and fun to ride. The lack of power will take a bit of getting use to compared to my other bike. I even thought of going through a small park I know I would get shit for doing so. I think I am going to enjoy this little bike.

    • @ZoneTelevision
      @ZoneTelevision  10 лет назад +1

      The bike was never built to break any speed records but you can have fun on it. It's quick enough for what it was intended for. I'd still like to own one.

    • @BD5GUY
      @BD5GUY 10 лет назад +1

      Zone Television They're cheap enough that you might as well. I wouldn't even buy new. I picked up a metallic blue 2005 that had only been ridden 285 miles. That being said, it does leave a little to be desired on the top end just for the sake of being a little less buzzy. But hey, it's a 200, it is what it is.

      This bike is the unsung hero probably one of the most overlooked bikes on the planet.
      The DR200 "Doctor2" ( my nickname for it)
      IT's a bike that is old as dirt but it does everything so well you can't go wrong and you can find them used for $cheap$
      It's fast enough its light as heck 256 lbs and it will go just about anywhere.

    I had sp 200 in 1987 and this looks exactly the same. Wasn't good for wheelies or donuts like 2 cycle bikes of the day. Top speed was 70 mph. It was my first bike and my last dual sport.

    I bought this bike the day after you made this video. Mine is a 2002 and had 1149 miles on it. That day, I was doing some small jumps with it. I got the bike sideways in the air and biffed pretty bad on it. Disclocated and cut my index finger in the crash. The bike. It had scratches on the headlight shroud and a minor one on the exhaust guard. The forks got tweaked a little, but I can loosen the 4 bolts and bang the front wheel straight. Nothing else. Mileage? Try 105 mpg.

      Also a very good bike. Heavier though. The DR200 is a lot more versatile and can easily go off road on some pretty nasty trails (If you're into that sort of thing). The DR weighs less than 300 lbs if i remember correctly which is VERY light. Top speed is about 70-75 ish. MPH.

    The problem is this bike is too expensive for what it is. Honda CBR250 has fuel injection, a tach, fuel gauge, clock, styling from the 21st century, 50cc more, for the same price. Suzuki also has the GW250 which has all the cbr features, as well as a gear indicator, shift indicator, extra piston, and has an MRSP $200 less! The dr200 really needs to be priced around $3000, or brought into the 21st century, for me to even consider buying it with my money. I like the bike overall which is why I'm on this video in the first place and I'd be more than happy if it was gifted to me, but I no one should spend their own money on this when that same amount can buy something so much better

    • @EthanKRETA
      @EthanKRETA 10 лет назад +3

      But the CBR isn't a dual sport. You can't really compare two different types of bikes.

  • @algesbrek5695

    Great vidio bud! It's a great bike no question, but as others have said too much mony for a basic 200cc.for a similar price I would get a yammaha
    XT 250 which has more power and fuel injection.That said, right now I'm considering a 2001 DR 200 with only 1250 k on the clock.safe riding ya-all

      @@ZoneTelevision Ah that's too bad, sorry to hear that (life getting in the way of riding). Well, the reason I asked, is that I am very much considering selling my DR650, which I've had for two years, and buying a new DR200. Mainly because I have become tired of trying to wrestle around that big 650 on the off-road trails of Colorado. It's great on the road, but not so good off-road. I have a Honda XR250R, but as a dirt-only bike, I have to haul it everywhere. I'm thinking the DR200 will be good off-road and good enough for the limited street riding I do, such as getting from town to the nearby trails. Well, I hope you are able to get a DR200 at some point, I've never ridden one but can imagine how easy they are to ride.

    -old school look
    -can dress it with ADV touring gear (Panniers, etc.)
    -cheaper than newer DR200S
    and the list goes on! BUT... I can't find it new at dealers... I am located in Southern California and have looked through all the dealers and none of them have them on their websites.. So my question is: IS THIS BIKE STILL IN PRODUCTION? the year is 2015 (obviously) and on the Suzuki website (not dealer sites the main Suzuki site) there is only a 2013 option.. Can someone please enlighten me!! Please someone reply. Thank you!!!
