As my fiancé only drank a specific beverage (half-and-half large latte no sugar extra hot) I thought I'd get her one. Mike Stoklasa recently predicted the end of Hollywood because younger people aren't interested in watching full-length films (because they don't have the attention-spans for it) and mature, older people are becoming so disenchanted by the current culture of the entertainment industry hellbent on warping and destroying IP's, that we'd rather re-watch our old favorites films and shows than watch whatever sludge they sh!t this week, which is always now accompanied by a divisive sociopolitical topic that only 5% of the audience cares about.

I’m not convinced by the attention span argument. Especially when I look at video games and the view-count on 3 hour RUclips videos. I think it has more to do with nobody is making shit that the younger generation wants to watch. Mainly because you just need to look at the trailer to go, “NOPE.”
😂 that’s what my girlfriend was saying throughout this movie. That’s pretty much all the laughs I got from it. That and Dalton basically becoming a sadistic killer while explaining how the guy he punched is gonna croak. Maybe coulda done without that level of serious, kind of to get to style of the original again. Wasn’t against a Road House remake with the right mindset, just didn’t like this one.
I read that in the flat tone he uses the entire movie. However, I thought it fit the character, because the character was supposed to be desperate hopeless and have nothing to lose.
I stayed a week with my uncle in Oklahoma for a fishing trip and while I was there, he took me to the movie theater to see the original Road House. It was great and so is my Uncle.
Amen! Honestly for me ‘Roadhouse’ was like the first ‘American Ninja’ movie - goofy fun that turned out to be more entertaining and enjoyable than people thought it would be. It didn’t need a remake.

I owned a bar back from 2006-2012. The cops would host a security class from time to time and they always showed a clip from the original Roadhouse where Swayze explained how to bounce to his staff. He was spot on with his advice.
I spent 6 months as a Marine on a US Navy ship in the early 90s. We had a VHS machine with only 2-3 movies. One of them was Roadhouse. It seems like we watched it daily. “Be nice, until it’s time to not be nice,” should be the new USMC motto.
I am surprised about this extreme lack of choice. I (German) always thought that the US Navy was way more generous regarding entertainment and stuff like that. And I do not quite understand it. You are serving on a ship that costs millions, tens of millions or even hundred of millions. Equipping you with 100 VHS would cost maybe 2000 bucks. And increase your quality of life by a lot. I doubt there is a cheaper way to entertain your soldiers (and by this increasing satisfaction and moral!) than by providing a nice selection of videos...
@@wedgeantilles8575 The US Navy does not spend much on morale boosting material. In the past they have relied on charitable donations from individuals and organizations like the USO or MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation). If your navy has 20 or 30 ships, you can kit them out for a hundred grand or so. If you're the USN and you have 500 ships, now you're talking a quarter of a billion dollars. You could buy a new golf course for the O-club with that kind of money. Also, you have to remember that you're talking about sailors and marines. If you put in that kind of equipment three quarters of it would be stolen inside six months and the rest but one would be broken. Which may be what the OP meant, there was only one machine and two movies left by the time he got there.

Same here. I've barely had any streaming services in my life, due to the fact that many movies often have limited time on these services. They come and go. In a more dystopian and totalitarian scenario, these services can potentially do the easiest way of "book burning" ever if the companies, government or society wants certain movies banned
I already own a shitload of DVDs and feel lucky that I lived through the mid-'00s to the mid-'10s when it was actually cheaper to buy a DVD than hire one. I also have a lot of classic Hollywood movies as well as ones from the late 1960s to the mid-2010s, and last I checked a lot of them aren't available on streaming services. @@kevstacey8639 Yeah, as long as you have the space for it, I see why not! I notice many people getting rid of whole DVD/Blu-ray collections because they commit to the minimalist life of streaming services, which is good news for me as I tend to find some great buys in there.
I was mostly entertained by this film. Where it fell apart for me was when Dalton (very calmly) says the reason he is afraid, is because when you push him too far, he goes crazy. My husband introduced me to roadhouse last year… and when it was finished I said “man I wish they still made movies like this” he said “watch, now they’ll do some shitty remake”… now I feel like I spoke this abomination into existence 😭😭😭
The original Road House was once of the iconic movies of the 80's. I watch it every couple of years. Patrick Swayze was a little too trendy back then. But was Sam Elliot ever in anything that was bad? And Kevin Tighe as the bar owner exuded a desire to do right by his community. Jeff Healey and his music was the soundtrack that held it all together.
Dalton never made any sense. A guy that philosophical risking his life every night and constantly getting into unwanted fights, for the higher purpose of...Cleaning up a bar. And the way he treated Denise, a beautiful woman that only wanted to sleep with him, was just pathetic. Calling her a pet. Really. Awesome action sequences, and so many different fighting styles! Aikido, stickfighting, and Morgan even brings pro wrestling into the bar!
Well the original road house isn't a good movie, but it is a fun movie, and it has an eighties charm to it. The new road house is better in my opinion, it just doesn't have the same charm.
Then why are both audiences and critics scores better than the original? People are getting tired of this hating on everything just to f****** hate s*** it's getting f****** old some movies like The Star Wars movies or the Halo TV show f****** deserve it, but when the fans and the critics both like the new movie there's no reason to hate on it people are just getting tired of this f****** hating on everything f****** train is f****** old .
Maybe because it's a reboot to another film, particularly one thst didn't need to be rebooted. Reboots will always be compared and judged by the original. This movie looks like something entirely different and should have been it's own movie.
Honestly, I didn't even make it through the new one, because after 30 minutes I was like "this is stupid, I wanna watch the old one" but then I realized that the old was was also pretty stupid. Definitely more charming and stylish, but also extremely stupid.
Because you watch a channel dedicated to shitting on things, watched primarily by doomers and other associated outcasts. Go outside. World’s pretty cool actually.
Original Roadhouse has been a guilty pleasure of mine since it came out. I really like it and can rewatch it over and over. Same thing with Point Break. So why do they keep f'ing up the remakes? Because Hollywood has lost its mojo.
If you're going to remake a movie (like Point Break for example), remake it as a different film altogether. Then no one realizes it is a copy and paste screenplay with a slightly different backdrop. so instead of a remade Point Break, we get Fast & Furious, which is the same movie with cars instead of surfboards. It introduces a new viewership to the concept without stepping all over the original.
@@txinterceptor8428 Wait just a minute. In the case of F&F it has nothing to do with remake. It was straight up plagiarism. Undercover cop, gang of radical sports who are actually thieves, good guy befriends leader of the gang, and on and on.

They're not redoing Patrick Swayze. Elwood Dalton is his own character and is James Dalton's son. So it's kind of a remake and a sequel at the same time
I take small solace in that he never had to see this or the Point Break remake. I'll see you all in five years when they decide they need to remake Ghost with a couple of gay dudes.
These low standards are the problem. As if it would be so hard to have an action movie that makes a lick of sense. They got you and trained you well. Enjoy...
The original took place in a middle of nowhere dive bar in small town Missouri. It felt gritty. The new one takes place in a beach front tiki bar in Key West Florida. It felt goofy.
I saw the original Road House. About the only thing I remember is the scene where Patrick Swayze buys a beater car with 4 extra tires and wheels (because he knows it’s going to get vandalized with all the tires slashed); and the part where he fires the head bouncer. I don’t recall anything else but I know it was better than the 2024 “remake”
The goofiest part for me is how the band never stopped playing, no matter how many beers were chucked at their heads. The band playing through destruction was meaningful in Titanic, cringe in this.
The scary thing is that I'm not even suprised anymore and more scary still, even dissapointed. When you're so conditioned to the bottom of the barrel level of quality and not even care is the worst thing.
Watching the original Roadhouse, which was a fun but very campy movie during it's time, but somehow against a remake in 2024, it looks like a masterpiece in script writing? What a world.
Just rewatched with my sons. My eldest thought The Jeff Healy Band playing the house band was awesome in original. They should have had some young blues guitar player like Marcus King or Kingfish Ingram. Wouldn't have made it better, just a bit more tolerable. You're right about what the original was and how it compares to modern movie writing. I wonder if they can remake the equally campy and beloved They Live and the same thing happens. I'm saying yes.
the original wasn't great and without the nudity wouldn't even be remembered. this was far more entertaining & had a better lead actor and Conor was more entertaining than anyone in the swayze film.
I think this movie did not take itself seriously, thats why it has a certain charm to it. Everyone is overexaggerated, the oneliners were cheesy and the plot is not really complex (original also did not have such a complex plot lets be honest). I agree with much of what the creator said, i agree that this isnt a very good movie but if you go and watch the movie with zero expectation, i think that was quite enjoyable.
I may be in the minority but I liked the movie. It was a fun movie, the same way Pacific Rim or The Core are fun movies. I watched the original immediately after, I can't remember the last time I saw the original. The original had heart, you could tell the people that made it were making a movie they cared about, the plot was silly too but the world building was much better. The new RH was much more sterile and safe, but I still enjoyed it for what it was. I don't think I'll watch it again, but I'm not mad I saw it once. Connor was a lot of fun to watch, I could tell he was having a good time.

I think Drinker has no problem voicing his frustration and disappointment at what Chris has reduced himself to. As for Chris, I don't think he cares anymore. He's a dad, and has made his decision on where he stands in the industry. It's a crappy one that goes against everything he ever followed as true and free - including the example his hero Roger Ebert set - but it serves his private purposes and the future he's counting on in the industry. Essentially, he's been bought and silenced. No more honest and blunt critiques will come from him. He's not going to be "mean." So, he's not going to say when something sucks and is truly devastating and a slight/disservice to the world of film - to the very art form - his so-called "church." That would hurt his financial and professional security. (Btw, this is all coming from someone who followed Chris from the very beginning of his YT channel - before he went viral, before he became an author and a film maker.) Can you tell I'm disgusted??? I think it's obvious that Drinker is as well.
Shit I might still be subscribed to his channel, but since he made "a movie" and he said he didn't feel comfortable criticizing them anymore I've refused to click on a single thing he's made. I'm going to go ensure that I've unsubscribed from that terrible channel now.
Another 80s classic torn to shreds. I watched the opening scene here on YT and it was... uninspiring. Which is a shame, because Jake G is a damn fine actor... in other movies. Thanks again for saving me time, energy and money, CD!
I have several theories on modern Hollywood. Here's one: Hollywood is a giant laundry for Cartel money. If the Movie makes money, that's good, but they don't care cos the Laundry is the game. These people make turkey after turkey and get to make another one?
The fight scenes were actually a lot more realistic than I was expecting, which I respect given the UFC's involvement. The way Conor escaped the rear naked choke at the end was spot on how you're supposed to
But Jake clearly has a knee bar set up but jumps back down on the ground with Conor? As for Conor's " Neck break of The Dude? If they are gonna put that crap in, might as well have " Classical Kung Fu" too😅. Disappointed.
"All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice." ~ Patrick Swayze as 'Dalton' in "Road House", 1989. PS is surely missed in this 'woked up' world of modern filmmaking. Wish he was still here.
Swayze chose to take on the lead role of a ‘woke’ movie from 1995 called ‘To Wong Foo’ in which he played a drag queen. The messaging in the movie was overtly pro LGBT and anti-racism. Don’t get me wrong, Swayze was one hell of an actor, a legend in his own right, but he was a product of Hollywood. I think we need to stop idolising the people on the big screen. I think we also need to stop looking back through a nostalgic lens and believing that there was any point in time within the last 70 years that was free of ‘wokeism’. The woke agenda has been a gradual process that has been given various names, ‘woke’ is just it’s most recent term.
You have no facking clue, Swayze woulda been fine with "woked up" movies. You people need to touch grass and stop bitching about woke. Oh god you can't say slurs and have to treat LBGTQ and PoC nice, it;s the end of the flippin' world. I am so tired of people complaining about woke.
You know what, just don`t watch modern movies, re-watch the old ones instead, that`s what I do. Modern movies exist only to rightfully be shat on and ridiculed, THAT is their entertainment value ;)
Just saw it. What!? The Movie was super fun actually! Action packed, funny. A real Pizza movie. Sure a no brainer, but You see the actors were having fun and the fight scenes were good as well! 🙂 Why to compare everything to a movie made 25 Years ago.

I had a Roadhouse double feature last night, only because I turned on prime for the first time in three months greeted by a remake I was unaware then searched for the original. The remake is exactly that, weird, and the shaving scene at sea sets up an unhinged villain only to not follow through. Hollywood should have just called it Bouncer and left out the “no one wins a fight” scene, which is out of place since Dalton was a professional fighter. I do admit to being entertained as I watched the movie while working out and making dinner. I think Mr. Gyllenhaal is a fine actor, however he just doesn’t have that calm cool that Mr. Swayze oozed. I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. McGregor’s performance and only at the end did I realize who he was due to his size. If nothing else it proves just how good the 80’s version is. I don’t think it tarnishes the legacy of the original because it gives me a chance to tell the younger generation to watch the original.
the “no one wins a fight” scene has a totally different meaning here, coming from him “winning” a fight where he literally murdered a friend of his, which ruined both his career and his mental. shaving scene sets up the villain pretty well, it isn’t showing him as “unhinged” in such a simplistic way as that, it’s showing that he refuses to listen when people try to point out the error in his ways, like not listening to his barber, later not listening to other subordinates warning him, and that he’ll lash out madly when things dont go his way. which he consistently does. the only reason he punches that dude is because he’s surrounded by cronies and knows he can’t do shit back. agree about everything else though, macgregor was a blast. movie was pretty weird overall though. so much singing in the first half.
@@obscure.reference nicely observed. I'd add that the shaving scene also helps define that he's not really a though guy, only acting like one. Any other villain would have thrown the barber to the sea, and later scenes reveal that he's basically just a kid trying to impress daddy.

Exactly my thought 😅

I wish I watched this review before watching the Road House itself. Man I lost 2 hours I am never getting back. The worst movie of the year.
Same. Mostly. We had 5 movies. Lol. But, none of them was Roadhouse, unfortunately.

My local library has plenty of good DVDs that don't cost a dime.

Hollywood needs to be stopped.
Sorry drinker but I have to disagree with your review.
This was an excellent piece of cinema, with some of the best acting to have come out of Hollywood in a long time.
This is up there with on the waterfront and silence of the lambs and should absolutely be recognised come Oscar time

The first fight with the bikers outside the bar was great. That was about it.
AGREED!! I was LOLing so hard I nearly fell off my chair. Told my son he had to see it just to experience the craziness of MacGregor chewing up every scene with his wild eyed "I'm an Irish legend!" smile throughout.
That fight and all the lines before it were a total rip off of the Reacher Season 1 scene where he encounters the 4 kids before his motel room!
@@JoergWeida and it was hardly an original setup and dialogue in Reacher either

@@SubjectiveFunny I saw it last night and I liked it. I didn't love it like the original, but I liked it. I appreciated that it also made a point to be a lot different than the original and wasn't a shot for shot remake too. I was kind of sad when I saw CD make this video today. It now makes me wonder how many other decent or better flicks I haven't watched based off of his recommendations there are out there. Making this video about this movie was a huge mistake. Better for a channel like his to just completely ignore a movie if you find it boring than to tear it down, especially a movie that wasn't chock full of the message. Because now I feel that CD's calling me a stupid person for liking this movie when I saw it last night with a friend.

Came here to say this. The bar has been dropped so low that this was actually refreshing.

Could just be refreshing cuz it was a fun and pointless movie with action and fights. maybe.@@OhDip
@@NZMPlays Well he never said it wasn't fun, only that it was pointless and pretty bad. So... no, no disagreement at all. Those aren't mutually exclusive descriptors. 😅
Based on the acting chops on display here, I do look forward to Conor's triumphant return in a Leprechaun reboot.
A role he was born to play. That I would watch.
Heard he is playing the live action version of The Lorax.

I also asked about this in the main comments, but do Drinker and Stuckmann have a fued going on?
@@markbrowning4334 Most likely for the Madame Web video Chris made, Drinker mentioned it in his critic.
Hope drinker doesn't in a few years turn into a soy drinking fanboi of hollyweird.
Shit I might still be subscribed to his channel, but since he made "a movie" and he said he didn't feel comfortable criticizing them anymore I've refused to click on a single thing he's made. I'm going to go ensure that I've unsubscribed from that terrible channel now.
This movie is so much over the top fun, and gyllenhaal is great in it. McGregor is insane and perfect. This corner of the internet hates everything.

The fight scenes were actually a lot more realistic than I was expecting, which I respect given the UFC's involvement. The way Conor escaped the rear naked choke at the end was spot on how you're supposed to

"Be nice untill it is time not to be nice."
WOKE IS BAD WOKE IS BAD WOKE IS BAD. Jesus, get a life buddy. This is just pathetic.

The original worked because it fit Patrick Swayze's persona at the time perfectly.
If there's no mullets, it's not the real Road House.

Say what you want of this movie but the soundtrack is incredible
Nobody could replicate Swayzes palpable charisma and sense of danger lurking just below the surface.

Thank you for clearing this up, I actually had no idea what the plot was when I was watching this
Colin McGregor was the the ony good part of this film for me. His performance is so wild and over the top I expected him to start literally chewing on the scenery at some point.
Watching him was like watching someone play GTA, he steals cars, gets to his destination then crashes and abandons them, he bashes random people, he wears strange outfits, even his fights seem like video game fights. At least he made me laugh!
wild and over the top, also known as, coked up and on steroids.
Come on man the protagonist was fantastic on the film.. he carried the film himself, it k my he went to fantastic shape for it, he actually played the “super duper mysterious stranger” very well.. I enjoyed the film a lot mainly due to the protagonist, mcgregor was stupidly over the top , and turned me off in the beginning, but then I was oh well he is having fun & I am facing fun see him be a lunatic so it’s not that bad.. the only thing turned me off was that there was no last scene were protagonist kick Åðð to mcgregor..
