We are in the middle of making some big changes - after years of of being very comfortable financially never really having to think about what we spent on groceries or other expenses, we’ve recently had a big change to our budget. I now have to totally adjust my thinking about every dollar we spend and I’m trying to work out how to more than halve our grocery bill.

As always you are brilliant Kelly and very inspiring. I buy $3.70 jar of coffee from Aldi ,I've mentioned before I'm a coffee tart...and will drink any coffee. Pizza base we make our own and comes in at pennies. However we do have special needs in our house and Up n Go's are sometimes what my daughter needs amongst other things that even if they are not on special I do have to buy it, I'm not perfect but I do my best at the shops.

We’ve changed what we shop for in bulk & do more Costco trips now for items that are cheaper in bulk which saves us money & time in the long run. For example I refuse to pay $10 for 700g of shredded cheese now. Instead we grabbed 2kg of shredded cheese for $21 from Costco & froze half. Will last us for about a month. We also grab the bulk mince packs and divide up to get at least 10 meals from it.

We make our own gluten and dairy free pizza and lasagne. Tastes much better than bought. When Aldi came to Adelaide I got their coffee pod machine, far cheaper than takeaway coffee. I've gone more frugal now. I bought 4 stainless steel reusable pods and fill it with my own coffee, always bought half price or clearance. We also have a proper espresso machine, ahhh, the caffeinated joys of having a son who is a trained barista.

My diet has had too completely change from whole foods to low fat, it’s so expensive but I have no choice. I’ve lost 25kgs without trying because I have among other things bile acid malabsorption, just eating something full fat makes me feel so ill. But I’m saving on butter, cream, ice cream……. any food that is tasty.

I so wish we could add pictures here, today I took some pictures of a few things in the reject shop here in salamander bay, Nsw, and then looked up on the coles and Woolworths apps to see how much they are there, I’ll write my results here.
Palmolive gold 4pk $3.75 reject shop
    $5 coles
    $5 Woolworths on special $4.50
    Toni&Guy shampoo 250ml $4.50 reject shop
    $19 coles or 2 got $30
    $9.50 Woolworths, was $19
Sukin hydrating shampoo 500ml $5 reject shop
    $19 coles
    $19 Woolworths
112pk Finish powerball dishwasher tabs $24 reject shop
    125pk $43 Woolworths -34c each
    42pk $18 coles -43c each
Even though the amounts aren’t the same I’m sure you can do the math, 224 pills for $48 at the reject shop, so only $5 more than the Woolworths cost for only 125pk.
    Well worth shopping around.
This is one thing do differently now, before I would just do all my shopping at coles and that was that, but now I’ll compare between coles and Woolworths and shop at both places because I’m selecting the cheapest items.
I now shop the markdowns where I’ve never done that before and I’ll buy more home brand items where I used to buy name brand stuff.
I shake my head at prices and say I’m not paying that and walk off without it or try to find something cheaper, I’ve never needed to do that before either.
I’ve been making my own marinades and sauces and dressings etc, growing as many vegetables as possible and shall be preserving up any excess.

I’m here from Caroline’s channel :) I need to go watch some more of your video’s almost all of what you have here we already do which was a bit sad (was hoping to find some extra $$’s somewhere lol). I invested in a thermomix when on my first lot of maternity leave and 10 years later it is still going strong, best pizza dough ever once a week as well as cheesy mite scrolls for school lunches amongst other things. We also have a full coffee machine and grinder (I don’t like the wastage of pods and my husband is a coffee snob anyway lol) save s a fortune but even the ALDI beans we like (single origin Brazil) have gone up $5 a kilo in the last 12 months or so :(
My kids won’t eat the bought lasagnes so I have to plan out when I have time to make my own but this week it’s on the menu :)
My biggest tip is I don’t buy any cleaning products (all are reusable for at least 3years in my house), I go to Aldi once a week and get all I can then a top up from Cole (boost all my flybuys and use that at target/Kmart when the kids need gifts for birthday parties or add to the Christmas shopping pot) and once a fortnight it’s woolie’s to make sure I have a fuel discount for the petrol station easiest for me to use.

Welcome - thanks for being here - I have a lot of other videos about being Frugal - and things that we do - I'm sure that I'm not the most frugal out there but I just share what we do as a family and also WHY we DON'T do some things as I think people need to understand having a Neurodivergant family means we need to accomodate things so I'm just being real and not putting up any fake images on 'social media' with green veggies on every plate LOL
I am NOT a traditional shopper which you will see in my Flybuys spends I am stock piling because ALL of my meat I buy ONLY if its on markdown so the other shops are to fill holes not to make complete meals I pass by 3 - 5 shops a day and so can always find something. We do spend a little more on food but we have only 4 take away meals a year - one for each birthday and also hubby is the only one who drinks alcohol , noone smokes and the only gambling we do it is my bingo which comes from my personal pocket money not the house budget.

Is your mum also a frugal shopper?
My mum is a super shopper and saver. she can spot a bargain from a mile away.... She also seems to be one of the luckiest women i know, right place, right time. I was lucky this week I walked into my local supermarket just as they were marking down the meat and fresh produce. But you really have to take notice, don't just see that markdown sticker and add it to the trolley. because saving 11 cents is not the type of saving I'm interested in .
My family has stopped buying or changed the brands we purchase because of price. We purchase a cheaper alternative. or have scraped the product all together. I'm actually not comfortable with the current price of laundry products. Unfortunately, I can't change the washing capsules I use because of severe skin disorder. cleaning products have become so expensive,
I read a post the other day, a person was saying they no longer buy body wash or shampoo anymore, because it's become to expensive. Somethings have risen by such outrageous amounts.

My mum is the same, always has been. She was always in charge of the budget. Frugal shopper, cooked everything from scratch. We never felt like we went without because she was so good at stretching the dollars. It rubbed off on me and now my kids, especially my eldest (he’s 21) is frugal too. Buys his clothes at op shops, lunch from the markdown section etc. He’s managed to save so much money on an apprenticeship wage and could then go and pay cash for a nice car. I’m glad he’s learnt early on that if you don’t waste you money on the little things then you can afford the things that matter to you.

I can't believe how much frozen chips have risen in price since the shortage. Crazy times. I don't eat Lasagne myself but used to buy the $6 one from Coles (On The Menu brand). It is now $9.50 so I don't buy it. I need to learn how to make this for the two males in my house.
