I am what one would term Nigerian aristocracy not the political class. It is shocking that Meghan Markle went to a school to talk about mental health and left out the fact that over 100 of the Chibok Girls who were kidnapped by Boko Haram are still missing after 5 years. Quite disgraceful. The trip hasn't caused even a ripple in Lagos where I live. Majority of people are too busy grappling with survival due to the recent economic collapse in which even the middle classes have been wiped out. They are in Abuja the seat if government and the entire trip is carefully choreographed because of security issues. Harry and Meghan are using the Minister and I guess he is using them too. Sooner they leave the better. Finally it is totally vulgar to wear a backless dress to the school..we tend to dress more modestly in such situations....beggars belief. My Grandparents went to two Royal Garden Parties. My Grandfather was acknowledged for his services to Charity & many years of being on the physical disabled right to have wheelchair friendly toilets. That was just one of his jobs, fighting for disabled rights. When my Mum (age 91!) tells me her life growing up in the war, she was born in 1933 so doesn't know anything else, this was her life. I have a suspicion that white is a very bad colour to wear there as I believe it is their funeral colour. I responded to a request to knit baby garments for an African country many years ago following a request by a leading charity. I knitted loads of white garments but when I handed them in it was explained that white would not be appreciated because of this. I took them home and knitted colourful backs for the tops and they were deemed acceptable 🤷♂️
