    I have this lens (I was very lucky to pick it up for £500 secondhand last year) and it is the lens that spends the most time on my camera now.

    In terms of image quality for stills photography, this lens is the best compared to other f2.8 standard zoom offerings. (Might not be the best value lens for some, though)
    If strictly for videos, the extra quality & features won’t matter much. The Sigma 18-50 might be a better option.
    I got mine used for about usd720.. definitely a worthwhile purchase for that price.

      The problem with the sigmas is the AF. The Sony is way superior for video in my opinion.

    For the price, it should have had OSS and/or constant barrel like the 18-105mm f/4 ... Great review

      To get the same image quality AND OSS + internally focusing, this lens would be much longer and heavier. Not what most people would like in terms of handling.

  • @DWebbTheOldHead

    Love the lens, but I hate that it doesn’t have OSS. For a lens that’s damn near (or at) $1,400.00, IT SHOULD. Knowing my dumb self I’ll probably wind up copping it.
    BTW, that Sigma 18-50 is no joke. If you haven’t got it, then do yourself a solid and get it.
    Great review and video, my man. 🥃

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  6 месяцев назад +1

      yeah, unfortunately it seems like most of Sony's high quality zoom lenses don't come with OSS anymore. But they are putting much better stabilization in their new Cameras which I appreciate. Sort of balances out. I've heard good things about that lens, and I like Sigma so maybe eventually. Thanks for watching!

      Reduce lens size and weight by removing the oss. All new Sony bodies will have it. I know I don't want a bigger lens on my compact a6600

    Any chance of them making a refresh and include oss?

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  19 дней назад

      @TZR95035 If I had to guess I would say no, simply because all their newer lenses don't seem to include it. They have focused more on size and quality of the glass, while adding much better stabilization to their newer camera bodies like the a6700. I really appreciate you checking out my Channel! Thanks!!!

    I love my Sony a1. When I use other Sonys, I miss features. But I hate the heavy lenses. Also, I visit remote areas. The a1 and a giant lens cause too much attention. I put an APS-C lens on it and it’s good for a whole day of shooting.

  • @mfrankel8321

    Good review, but the Sony is too much money for most of us. I think , the Tamron or Sigma equivalents will do the trick at a much lower cost.

    Which full frame are you using this on? I have this lens with an apsc currently and I’m curious how it is on your full frame

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  2 года назад +1

      I pretty much only use it on my a6600 but I have tried it with the A7IV and it works great so long as you are in crop mode, but I prefer to just use a full frame lens with the A7IV so I don't have to crop. But it does work great

    How is it on it on a gimbal, is it to front heavy or can it be balanced well?

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Honestly I haven't used it on a gimbal because that's a situation where I typically use a prime lens because zooming can sometimes mess up the balance. But I have a small gimbal for lightweight setups. It might work fine but Idk. I'm sure on a newer gimbal it would probably be fine because it's not a huge lens

    Thoughts on Tamron 17-70??

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  2 года назад

      Hey! Well I haven't used it but I've heard it's pretty good for the money. But if I was going to get a different lens to do a similar job it would be the Sigma 18-50 F2.8 because it's tiny compares to the others and I've heard it creates great looking photos. Plus I've used a couple other Sigma lenses and have always really liked the way photos/videos looked from them. The only downside is the focal range not being quite as wide or as telephoto but it would still be my choice

    • @timha4102
      @timha4102 4 месяца назад

      I hate it for video. The autofocus is not very smooth, it doesn‘t support assisted focus and the stabilizer introduces more micro jitter than it stabilizes movement.
