  • Being successful in grad school and academia requires a lot of commitment. Here are 3 ways to be more committed.
    Number 1: Clarify Your Commitments.
Commitment begins with clarity. Take some time through reflection, journaling, or conversations to connect with what matters most and to what you want to dedicate your attention, energy, and effort. Are you committed to earning your degree publishing an article? Do you want to improve your health or relationships? Knowing your priorities is the first step toward committed action.
    Number 2: Protect Your Commitments.
Academics often juggle multiple responsibilities and their commitments end up competing with each other for time and attention. To protect each of your commitments, plan and prioritize wisely, set boundaries, and batch similar tasks. Guard your time and focus to honor your commitments.
Number 3: Renew Your Commitments. It’s easy to lose contact with what you are committed to. If you want your behavior to reflect your commitments, you need to reconnect with them regularly. Write them down and visualize them shaping your behavior. Frequently check in-are your actions aligned? Commitment thrives on consistent renewal.
