Hapuna Beach River?

  • I had a big plan to go to Hapuna Beach today for Mothers Day-I was unaware they had experience pretty bad flooding in the area. Hapuna was closed but we had lunch at the Westin Hapuna and walked down to beach to see the river that cut the beach in half. It was roaring yesterday. We also went to the cove I wanted to swim in and it’s full of dirty water and the beach is littered with goat poop that got washed down. The debris was along the highway near the river went it went ten feet up and came over the highway.
We didn’t get as much rain in Kona, so all of this was rather shocking.
Raining when we left Kohala Coast-hit and sunny in Kona. Two different worlds 30 miles

A little stream has always been there. Long before the hotel and park the boy scouts would camp there and that stream was a good spot for fresh water. Now hotel has deep injection sewage system. Bye bye pristine spring

You realize this is how it was supposed to be?
The land is supposed to have multiple river mouths to hold the waterfall - Waimea is a watershed that funnels all the water & feeds it to Kawaihae ( Every island has a Waimea, every Waimea has over abundance of water/rainfall)
You’ve never seen it because you’re to new to the aina & Hawaii. 15yrs won’t teach you how the land should look.
Ask any old timer or Native. This is nothing new, it’s about to become more & more consistent.

Hello, thanks for keeping us posted on the weather... parts of Kauai had quite a storm a few weeks ago as well. For a future video, if you could go to the Mauna Kea Hotel and get a representative of the hotel to talk to you and describe the $200 million renovation going on, that would be really interesting. I hear it will be on par with the best hotels on the Island after the renovations

I lived there for years, and we would get occasional flooding. Water will change landscape. I also grew up in Sunset Beach, California, and we had to have the beach dredged to save our houses. Kawaihae harbor had damage, too. I'm glad you fixed the spelling.

Thank you for your informative videos as always. We didn’t realize the cow & goat waste washes up on the beaches. Tuesday at Anaeho’omalu Beach we were surprised to see massive amounts of goat poop washed up there too
