Hey Mark. I really appreciate all the great information on the ZV-E10 you put out there. I have a question about how Catalyst Stabilization works. If you brought in squished anamorphic footage (looks like Moment is developing an anamorphic adapter to work with existing lenses, which means if the existing lens has AF, there would be gyro meta data recorded as well) into Catalyst Browse, do you think it'll do a good job of stabilizing it and look normal after unsquishing the anamorphic footage?

But I did it and I love the picture, but when it comes to walking and talking, or holding the camera still, I can't hold it steady to save my life. I just followed your tutorial on Catalyst browse, and it took me 3:40 to run a 1 minute clip through it. I also bought the M3 gimbal, but it takes so long to set it up. I can't get it to balance correctly with a mic and sigma lense and am afraid of breaking it by running it unbalanced lol. I was looking at the Nikon Z30 because of it its stabilization, but after watching your video on it compared to the ZVE, it doesn't seem like its much better. Anyway, this past 2 weeks I've been watching all your videos on the ZVE and obsessing over it, but sadly I think I need to return it, and get something with better stabilization. Without needing a gimbal setup. Do you have any recommendations? Or am I spoiled from GoPro, and should continue to use it for my camping, walk n talk videos? Thanks for you time :)
Cameras just aren’t able to do what the GoPro does (unless using catalyst with Sony). So I would stick with the GoPro for ultimate stabilization. Z30, ZV-E10, Canon R10 - all pretty bad. Something like a Panasonic g85 has really good stabilization for a camera - but they autofocus is terrible. The Olympus EM1 mark ii (and iii) is good with stabilization and autofocus, but the video features aren’t amazing. But it does do nice 4K and for vlogs it will likely be one of the best choices. So my advice would be keep the GoPro going or looks at a used Olympus EM1 mark ii with a wide lens
Hey Mark! Thanks for the great video! I really appreciate it! I am new to the videography and have two questions about Catalyst Browse: - You said that you have to turn off all stabilizers. Do I also have to disable the stabilizers in the kit lens (Sony ZV-E10) or can I leave them enabled? - Does the shutter speed have to be exactly 1/200? Should I lock the Shutter Speed at 1/200 throughout for Catalyst Browse to work properly? Thanks in advance!
Hello Mark, do you have any experience with Apple Sillicon Mac and Catalyst browse? I'm having trouble when I use my M1 iMac or MacBook M1 Pro - every second video analyzing the app crashes. Do you have any solution for this? Thank you :-) BTW: great videos!
How funny I was just posting on one of your other post asking if anybody had a good tutorial for catalyst browse because I can’t get it to work and then I see this on your page. I got hung up first waiting for a new processor for my computer because I didn’t have enough cores to get the program to work. Now that I’ve got that situated I’m still struggling to how to use the stupid program lol.So you’ve already answered my question now I gotta a watch this!
Hi Mark, I appreciate this video. I've been stabilizing footage from the Sony ZV-1F for HOURS from a hiking vlog I did today. I did buy the Sony ZV-1F after thinking it would be a good vlogging / b-roll camera, but this experience is kinda making me wonder if I made a mistake. Should I have bought an action camera instead? I haven't even gotten into the edit yet. I did download the Catalyst Prepare trial, but even in that you can't batch analyze the footage (unless I'm missing something...).
you can batch stabilize the footage in catalyst prepare. You just tick the number of files you want before export. I will say for a hiking vlog a GoPro (or DJI) would probably be the best thing. The footage will already be super smooth and they are designed for that type of thing.
Hey, Mark! Quick question. I am shooting with my zve10 and when I loaded up catalyst browse, only some of my clips had the stabilization option. It wasn't an option for my 120 slow mo footage... have you experienced that before?
Thanks Mark! Got the ZV-E10 and paired it with Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 after watching your videos. Catalyst browse works great with this combo 👍 I'm thinking of getting Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 that comes with lens vibration compensation "VC", so was thinking whether Catalyst Browse will work fine together with the VC? Thanks!
I’m not sure. Catalyst sometimes works with lens stability and sometimes not. but honestly, if you are using catalyst browse, the lens stabilization won’t make a difference even if it works. I find it’s best to turn off all stabilization and let the gyro data work.
TikTok booty poppin in public lol so glad that's still an option 🤣do you shoot in 24 or 30? I tend to alway go 30 but the zve10 has an extra crop for 30p....
Something has happened recently where my Catalyst Prepare is COMPLETELY different and borderline unusable on Mac. Used to be able to batch export with percentage, now it's completely different. Anyone else having this problem?
Thank you for that very helpful introduction to catalyst browse. The first time I've stabilized one of my Sony 10-20mm G videos I seriously thought "WHAT THE FOHK!?!", that looks sooo clean and smooth! Night/day difference! I'm super happy now! Altough I cannot stabilize footage made with my Sony 70-350mm G, as that lens somehow doesn't record gyrodata. I thought you can do this with all Sony G lenses. But it's ok, for tele I'd mostly use OSS and/or tripod anyway... Cheers! 🙂
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis after testing i feel like its more effective for tele (above 70mm) when using lens OSS + stabilize in post with davinci. Turning off lens OSS on a tele gives very shaky footage so catalyst has a hard time and might have to crop significantly to compensate.
great video, but I'm still confused. So, by turning of the Camera's stabilization, you're able to use Catalyst, However, you're Not able to use the Camera's IBIS? So, you're Only able to use one of them?
You can use it with active stabilization. Jut not “lens” stabilization. So if you have a lens with OSS and you use “standard stabilization” the gyro data won’t record
Great Video I just tested a video footage clip using this video and the software is great for stabilization and what it is Thanks for sharing this Video
this was very helpful, thank you very much for putting it together. I do have a question. I follow your instructions on how to save the file to the T. In CB they changes are saved and after renaming it I can see that everything saved correctly. However when i click on the file to play in Quicktime the changes are not there. Just FYI I'm making the clips to upload to Instagram and YouTub. What am i missing ? Thanks for your help!
One thing I've discovered (which I don't think you note, but apologies if so) is that you can't stabilize clips if you've shot them using the 100 or 120fps options. It only seems to work with the Super35mm flagged ones.
I may not have mentioned that in this - but that is true. You can only stabilize up to 60fps. which, of course is ok and footage slowed down to 100 or 120 is usually very stable regardless.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I was stupidly just shooting everything at 100fps to have the option of slowing right down, then realised I can't stabilise it haha. p.s. No idea why I used a z last time. I am no north American damnit.
ZV-E10 or iPhone 13 pro max, I am thinking of going to a camera from my iPhone for my channel. My videos are mostly of beaches in Spain not blogging. Thanks Barry
I’m a fan of cameras, but they can be a fair amount of work and for your channel where you’re showing beaches in the bright sun - the iPhone will probably be better. great stabilization and great video and you won’t have to worry about things like ND filters and post stabilization or gimbals. Plus, the zv-e10 is not weather-sealed so it can’t get wet and blowing sand can also be a big problem. I would go with the IPhone 13 Pro or Pro Max.
Looking at your Note 1: "turn off stabilization" and seeing other comments saying IBIS prevents metadata. Since your video was made, was there an update that allows you to have IBIS on now? I was playing around with the software last night and noticed IBIS clips had metadata and could be stabilized. Or is your note a recommendation for another reason?
It is now the case that you can stabilize footage if you have used active stabilization. If you choose "standard stabilization" which only uses IBIS and/or the lens stabilization - this is where you will have a problem stabilization footage.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I’m using an A7C that only has IBIS steadyshot. I was able to stabilize its footage in catalyst browse after shooting with steadyshot on
Hi Mark, great video but I have the paid version of Devinci, so im using the stabilisation functions in there. Wondering if you know how they stack up?
Hi Mark. I’m late to the party with this one and just tried it out. I’ve found that it stabilises really well, but the video bitrate is massively lowered. My clips have dropped from 100 down to 30 something …..
Ahhhh… ok, I’m missing it on the software. Thought something must be wrong. Thanks Mark, I’ll have another look. I think it defaults to a lower bitrate after being newly downloaded or something!
Thanks for this ... is there a list of supported cameras anywhere I couldn't find one...Though I think the video basically convinced me to buy a gimbal.
hey thank you for the videos, catchy and clear. can you please make a video about final cut? and a question- is it ok to work with final cut while working with more editors that using premier?

Thanks!! I thought about it, RUclips is supposed to eventually have a “thanks” button where you can tip a creator - but I guess they don’t think I need one yet🤣🤣. I’ll look at the buy me a coffee thing again.
Can i use catalyst browse if i have the lens stabilisation turned on in ZV E10? or does the steady shot have to be totally turned off if we wanna stabilise footage through catalyst browse?
Hi Mark, Thank you so much for this video - it was REALLY helpful! Quick q's -Have you tried out the new Zhiyun Crane 3 and if so, do you think it would hold up the Sigma 16mm lens? -What lens would you recommend to get a fisheye look that most RUclipsrs have when they film? Thank you!
Thanks!! The Crane M3 is arriving tomorrow for testing. But it will definitely hold up with the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 16mm. I would recommend the Tamron 11-20 f2.8 for a wide field of view. The RUclipsrs don’t use true fish-eye lens they just use a wide lens. A fisheye is more circular and not a great look for vlogging, in my opinion.
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. I pressed the export button. The Export dialogue box appeared where I can see the clip that I was going stabilized. I pressed the OK button and then nothing happens. I am using Windows 10. Is there something else that needs to be done? Could you please give me some hint? I want to buy ZV-E10 because of this Catalyst Browse feature.
Hey Mark, just got myself a sony zv-e10 and while im impressed with it, the jello effect is the only thing that triggers me. I already have a gimbal and willing to use it to stabilise the footage but it does not eliminate that jello effect, so i was inclined in using the catalyst browse software, only to find out that the shutter speed needs to bumped up to 1/200, and honestly i like that motion blur that 1/50 gives you. Is there no other work around this? Would like to shoot mainly in 4k 25fps at 1/50… Great content btw, keep it up 👍
There are plugins and software that do a good job of lessening rolling shutter. But try the catalyst browse at 1/125 - once the footage is smoothed out, I find the motion looks natural.
Hey @@donttrustnobody1, I wouldn't say it's a music video camera, mostly because of the rolling shutter, which in music videos (in my opinion) there is a lot of movement going on, still, it depends what kind of music you're going to shoot, but I assumed pop and mainstream music. I will be using my ZV-E10 to shoot mostly local events, such as promo videos, and interviews; in fact tomorrow I will be shooting an outdoor interview for a local startup company. Hope this helps :)
Dude, thanks so much for this video. I was shopping around for a gimbal but think I am going to just try this out first with my ZV-1. Gimbals just seem so unreliable from the research I've done. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. When you say Catalyst Browse does not support Manual lenses, does that also include Manual lenses that have electronic contacts with the Lens ? For example the Zeiss Loxia lenses have that interface and they transmit the EXIF data to the camera. Will the Loxia lenses not work with Catalyst Browse ? Thank you !
I actually don’t know the answer to this - I haven’t had the opportunity to test that, but if it communicates exif data, then it would be my guess that it would work.
Hey, fast question before buying a new lense, will CB work with sigma f2.8 18-50, sony zve 10? I heard that some lenses do not cooperate well. Thanx in advance :)
Hey again! Love the way my footage looks through Prepare. I got a trial version to see if I could batch stabilize and export, do you know if this is possible? I have 690+ videos to stabilize, so you can hopefully see my issue! Would greatly appreciate!
Hi - love the content. What settings do you need to have on the ZV-E10 to make sure that gyro data is being recorded? I have an auto-focus lens on but the associated .xml file for gyro data is always empty.
turn off the stabilization in the camera. You’ll see the ability to stabilize it when you open catalyst browse. once you find your clip, there will be an icon for stabilize that looks like a filmstrip
Hi Mark I don't know if you mentioned it before, but today I did a test (video on the way) and I forgot the camera in Airplane Mode because I was using the gimbal last night and surprise surprise, all the video shoot today are without geo that means CB is not able to stabilize because there no metatag. Obviously in Airplane Mode Geo is off as well 😞
Hi Tony, I just tested to double check, but airplane mode on or off does not affect the ability to record the Gyro. If the info did not record, it was because stabilization was on in some way or the connectors had an issue. So if you were using a lens with autofocus, and had all stabilization turned off, and you were recording in 60fps or less, then I would suggest taking off your lens, brush the connectors on the lens and the camera with a camera brush (or use an air blower) and reattach. Then test it out.
YEAHHHHHH!!!! It works -- I do apologize for my bad...in fact I had the SteadyShot in Standard while was supposed to stay in Off...switching and testing so many cameras I need another couple of training hours with the "little dog" :-) Thanks for the help and suggestions as always
**Note: TURN OFF all stabilization in camera when using Catalyst Browse

I’ll be testing out the Fuji XS-10 this week too
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the speedy reply!
Hey Mark! Thanks for the great video! I really appreciate it!
I am new to the videography and have two questions about Catalyst Browse:
- You said that you have to turn off all stabilizers.
Just got the ZV-E10!! I can’t wait to play with it!!!
It’s so good
How funny I was just posting on one of your other post asking if anybody had a good tutorial for catalyst browse because I can’t get it to work and then I see this on your page. I got hung up first waiting for a new processor for my computer because I didn’t have enough cores to get the program to work. Now that I’ve got that situated I’m still struggling to how to use the stupid program lol.So you’ve already answered my question now I gotta a watch this!
Make sure you turn all stabilization in camera OFF before recording.
I just picked up the a7c a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the video!!!
Good choice!
Mark, you are such a life saver! I wouuhabe needed to film everything again ❤❤❤ and on top you’re stupidlufunny😂
Love goes out!❤
Hai thanks for the video. Want to ask how long does it take to render 5 minute video using catalyst browse?
it depends on your computer, but that would take 15 mins on my computer (2019 iMac)
I tend to alway go 30 but the zve10 has an extra crop for 30p....
always 24 for me - I'm just used to it.
Thank you for your quick reply 👍
Great vid, I have a sony A73 and the footage I have can't be stabilize , Do I need to enable any specific feature in the camera before recording?
Something has happened recently where my Catalyst Prepare is COMPLETELY different and borderline unusable on Mac. Used to be able to batch export with percentage, now it's completely different. Anyone else having this problem?
Nice info! Gonna try catalyst browse first
Thanks!
Cheers! 🙂
You have to turn off the stabilization - if you have lens stabilization on (or standard stabilization in the camera) the gyro data will not record
You're great man! you deserve more subscribers!
I appreciate that!
Nice overview for sure and great quality video.
Thanks!!
I'm going to use your 1 min clip in all my videos just to pad the runtimes. it won't make any sense, but that's perfect 🎬
I want my face on an amp!!
Have you used Catalyst with the Sony A1 cheers Barry.
@@StephenMcLeod I shouldn’t be using “z” either. In Canada we’re supposed to do it the British way. But most of my audience is from the US 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Ditto. Mostly American, and 99% male.
@@StephenMcLeod haha - yup!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for such a swift reply.
I was able to stabilize its footage in catalyst browse after shooting with steadyshot on
Thank you so much for helping me in testing Catalyst Footage. Which lend did you use in making that clip?
You’re welcome. I used the Sigma 16mm f1.4 geni.us/W2SB
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis have yiu reviewed Sony a7 IV yet
@@imranalijafar Not a review yet, no. I do own the camera and I did a little video with Catalyst Browse l lots more to come, though 👍👍
Hi Mark, great video but I have the paid version of Devinci, so im using the stabilisation functions in there.
Wondering if you know how they stack up?
thats advanced and very useful, thanks!
Hi Mark. I’m late to the party with this one and just tried it out. I’ve found that it stabilises really well, but the video bitrate is massively lowered. My clips have dropped from 100 down to 30 something …..
you can change the settings in catalyst to render at 100 mbps
Ahhhh… ok, I’m missing it on the software. Thought something must be wrong. Thanks Mark, I’ll have another look. I think it defaults to a lower bitrate after being newly downloaded or something!
Thanks for this ... is there a list of supported cameras anywhere I couldn't find one...Though I think the video basically convinced me to buy a gimbal.

hey thank you for the videos, catchy and clear. can you please make a video about final cut?

you can use final cut with premiere editors, but the workflow isn’t as easy if all of you are collaborating
As always amazing content Mark. I was going to say coffee, but man I would like to buy you a 🍺. You should set up a tip or buy me a beer account somewhere. 😎. Seriously, your content is amazing and it makes things so easy for us. Thanks again for your help!
Thanks!! I thought about it, RUclips is supposed to eventually have a “thanks” button where you can tip a creator - but I guess they don’t think I need one yet🤣🤣. I’ll look at the buy me a coffee thing again.
Oh wow
This video will help me in my ZV1 stabilization.
It’s so great that the ZV1 has the gyro data too. 👍👍
Can I use this program (Catalyst) on my camera (Sony A6400)?
the a6400 does not record gyro data - so you cannot unfortunately
Thank you, this was helpful
Can i use catalyst browse if i have the lens stabilisation turned on in ZV E10? or does the steady shot have to be totally turned off if we wanna stabilise footage through catalyst browse?
Hey Mark, Thank you for the tutorial!
You’re welcome!!
Hi Mark,
Thank you so much for this video - it was REALLY helpful!
Quick q's
-Have you tried out the new Zhiyun Crane 3 and if so, do you think it would hold up the Sigma 16mm lens?
Just a question how long does it take to render out let’s say 10-15 vlog clips just curious on how much time this adds to work flow?
it depends on how long the clips are and your computer. my computer takes 3 mins to render a 1 min clip
Would like to shoot mainly in 4k 25fps at 1/50…
Great content btw, keep it up 👍
There are plugins and software that do a good job of lessening rolling shutter. But try the catalyst browse at 1/125 - once the footage is smoothed out, I find the motion looks natural.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis will try it. Thanks for tour answer and content! 😄😄
Cheers!

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Beautiful. Watching it now, thank you!
GREAT VIDEO..... 💪🏼
Would you consider trying out Gyroflow and making a comparison video to catalyst browse?
yes - I will try to make this video
Hey, fast question before buying a new lense, will CB work with sigma f2.8 18-50, sony zve 10? I heard that some lenses do not cooperate well. Thanx in advance :)
it will work fine with any autofocus lens 👍
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanx Mark! Already have it!
Hey again! Love the way my footage looks through Prepare. I got a trial version to see if I could batch stabilize and export, do you know if this is possible? I have 690+ videos to stabilize, so you can hopefully see my issue! Would greatly appreciate!
You can batch export with catalyst prepare yes.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the reply! How do I batch stabilize? I would still have to manually go into each clip and click stabilize?
nice videos man!
Hi mark, just wanna ask..i got my A6500 and it can shoot 4k videos..do A6500 video can be use in catalyst browser?
The gyrodata is only recorded in the Neewer Sony cameras, unfortunately. The ZV-E10 and the fx30 are the only APS-C cameras that have it
Nice and early - Ok back to my editing
Hi - love the content. What settings do you need to have on the ZV-E10 to make sure that gyro data is being recorded? I have an auto-focus lens on but the associated .xml file for gyro data is always empty.
turn off the stabilization in the camera. You’ll see the ability to stabilize it when you open catalyst browse. once you find your clip, there will be an icon for stabilize that looks like a filmstrip
thank you a lot, very infromative video
Also, which camera were you using?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you Mark I will give a shot again tonight I found it weird but I will keep you posted
