- Kenrap is eight years old. He is a Buddhist monk and lives in the Phuktal monastery on the peaks of the Himalayan mountains of Zanskar.
Kenrap chose his life away from his family: when he was five, he remembered he was the reincarnation of a 68 year-old monk, and then decided to return to the monastery where he belonged.
Filmed from the point of view of a subjective camera by a young ethnologist, this award-winning film follows this attaching little monk with whom we share moments of intimacy, and gives us a rare glance at Buddhist monastic life.

The language is very similar to our language.we are Himalayan of Nepal 🇳🇵.we haven't luxury facility but we are peace and happy because it's the blessing of Buddha's teaching.

''If you think you'll fall, you will fall.
If you think you won't fall, then you won't fall.
Everyone has to make their heart strong''
Wow! What an advice from the young monk.
Bizim memlekette biri köprüde selfy çekmek istedi.düşeceğini hiç düşünmedi fakat nehre düştü ve boğuldu.
Pretty cool, yeah.
He's not young. He's old. 68.

Yes that is absolutly true,🎸
I have watched this masterpiece 07 times. This documentary film is a stress buster and therapeutic.May all beings be free of suffering. As HHThe Dalai Lama said “my religion is simple, my religion is kindness"
Exactly documentaries especially filmed in Tibet are major stress buster and therapeutic.......
Totally agreee. Watched it 4 times here so far
As The Budda said, "Life is suffering, get used to it". If you are an activist fighting for a life free of suffering, you will be fighting a meaningless war and never ending war. May I ask you what Western country you were brought up in please, if you don't mind. If you do, good luck to you and yours. All the best.
Mis mejores deseos para ti hermano i para todos los seres benditos de la madre tierra
ironically, most hypocritically, your dalailama is a serf owner,CIA puppy, political tool, bloody rioter and defector
When asked "You don't want to go anywhere else?". The little kid says,
"We can see everything well from here!"
Its astonishing how they don't desire anything at all even at that tender age.
Those monk babies literally took my heart away. So pure.
I know nright????? Those Ángels so truth
All babies are so pure
Salute to the photographer and the team who has offered me such a fascinating documentary, hats off to the little boy.
The dedication of these very young children as a monk to live at the monastery and their self discipline is so amazing
Non possono scegliere.
They don’t really have a choice, it’s ordained by their place in the family.

❤Yes,my thoughts also
Incredible film. It touched my heart so deeply...the first time I cried watching a documentary film. Kenrap is definitely a reincarnated old monk, his character and wisdom at such a young age, beautiful soul...and a role model for me who is old enough to be his grandma.
Humbling, the petty cares go out the window, the needs become obsolete, what is important is doing prayers & remembering there are Souls suffering in this world who need understanding. I kept thinking how western children are very spoiled & way more than they need yet nowhere near as happy as these young Monks, those smiles & giggles are Heart warming. Respect 🙏
The tears in the boy's eyes, speaks alot.God bless all those beautiful heart...
Exactly😥🤬
No complaining.
Such a strong boy!I am Soo proud of you lil boy!May you always rise and shine❤️
When u cried at ur home,it says that ur cheeks aren’t paining but actually you aren’t happy going away from ur family !
Anyhow u made it n happily went back to monastery!
Sending you Lots of love lil one!🤗❤️❤️❤️
This little monk has more wisdom that today's most educated and intellectuals. I heart fall for these beautiful souls. Imagine if the world is filled with such beautiful, wonderful souls.
Beautiful film. Is the little monk singing? Beautiful voice, beautiful song. I love this type of films, so relaxing and peaceful to watch
Great to see some of the old faces from your previous documentary "Himalaya, Land of women". Always a delight to watch your documentaries Marianne Chaud. You are a fantastic director and I like the way you live like you're one of them. I hope to visit Zanskar some day.
I remember my childhood I was Monk and I know that's time very suffering but I was very happy and peaceful love from Nepal 🇳🇵
Live is suffering
This documentary will break your heart but then melt it back together…….such beautiful people….if only the rest of the world were like these extraordinary people ♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏

Thank you SLICE for sharing this beautiful video on the simplicity of these tibetian monks ... Life for them is still fun and daily routines which they do not grumble and are happy to do what they have to do in this isolation ... Amazing bunch of kids and the leaders who try to groom them to be good monks ...
Love you all little brothers in Samsara. You're so pure in your hearts and souls. You'll become stronger and be great spiritual leaders in the future.

Would love to visit Bhutan and Tibet. Tashi deleg.

This is one one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen, so beautiful, loving, unassuming -- with such maternal love. You just love this boy, don't you?
I think this is the French ethnologist who lived in Zanskar for 3 years amongst the villagers, and learned the language.
Loved every single thing about this documentary
Brilliant documentary, it is good to see how the monks live and also the young boys learn from the older monks.
This gives a lot of hope to the world.
Tibet and India are both seeking God in a very peaceful manner and effective way too.
Monk Children,..pure joy,..absolute Soul Beaming Joy.
May God keep all these pure souls safe from all the obstacles and always filled their mind with positivity and eternal bliss which they have right now for forever. Thank you slice for such a beautiful heart touching documentary.
Stark, threadbare beauty, courageous open heartedness...a life worth living!
I used to work in a Forest Kindergarten in Germany and there was a kid, which was exactly like him..
I think about him a lot.
He was very free of everyone and enjoyed Life by himself like no other.
He really changed something inside of me and the more I write the more I am about to cry. I really miss this kid.
So grateful these beings coexist somewhere on this planet... For the time I was given with him.
I deeply wish, that you will encounter a kid like this one in your life too.
What a beautiful documentary, Love from the valley itself(Ladakh)❤️
This is an outstanding masterpiece of a documentary!!! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL SO MUCH…..BEST ON U TUBE!!! I totally get lost watching these documentaries!! You never fail to deliver! Love a binge watch now and then. Thank you🙏🏻🥰❤️💜💙💜💞💕❤️💕💞💜💙
I've been to Tibet 5 times in the last 30 years and each time I am still so fascinated with the simple & humble attitude of these people. They accept their life and idealistic of being on born to try achieve enlightement ... I believe 99% of Tibetians don't have greed and will just carry on till its time for them to go and hope for better reincarnation ...
It's the power of Buddha teaching.
Otherwise they'll also greedy like cities people over the worlds.
@@tseringkaljan8791 I am a Buddist myself ... Yes - I see my circle of friends and even ppl I meet in the temple are helpful and generally kind but I doubt many amongst us can practise and consistently be as humble and accept what they have AS IT IS ... We keep striving for better and try to achieve more success so we can enjoy material stuffs - you know to have more comfort, bigger house, holidays in comfort & the list can go on ... etc etc
Even as I get older and if after the pandemic and I wish to visit Tibet & Bhuttan again it will be tough now as to climb those rough temple stairs and even their grounds is an achievement not to mention to eat the local food ... I've been to Tibet so many times and until today I cannot get used to eating their local staple of wheat floor with milk ..
Tibetians are really an amazing bunch - God Bless them

I am from Himalaya of 🇳🇵 Nepal, near to upper Tibet.in my village no 🛣️, no vehicle 🚜,no electricity 🔌,no modern technology effects.totally weak facility but villagers are living within very peace and happy more than cities lifestyle.i became Buddhist monk at 20 age.studies so harder about Buddhism because it's not easy to understand because Buddhism very profound even my age is also not perfect because I never been studies anything until 20 age.but by the great blessing of Buddha, dharma and Sangh community my realization about Buddhism is pretty good but never ever enough.i want practice continuously until last breath of mine.yes Tibet is beautiful country and Tibetan are nice human being,it's all the blessings of Buddha and his teaching because you know and I know because there has authentic or real histories.before Buddhism spread in Tibet they were also too rude people but after many great masters include many great kings tried harder to invited the Buddha's teaching in Tibet as translated then Tibet gradually be more peace and happiness prevailed around.from 🇳🇵 kathmandu.take care.
@@michelleooi8386 sorry,my English isn't good.maybe people can be misunderstanding.
@@tseringkaljan8791 Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with me dear Tsering Kaljan. I wish you all good blessings and I do hope you'll achieve your deep understanding of Buddhism and also your practise a a good monk. The 5 times I've been to Tibet and was briefed each time on your country history, I still find that I not not familar and need to read more - BUT for me, I don't like to read too much and prefer to watch any videos I can find that share the culture, the country and its people in Tibet. Those that I like, I can watch and rewatch many times.
The first time I visited Kathmandhu, I had a very good tour guide - Dawa Tsering Sherpa and since then, I will usually just call him to arrange the land tours for me & my friends. Even Kathmandhu - I've visited like 6 times and been to Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Shikkim, Gantok but still very fascinated with overall Tibet.
But as compared to the 1st time I step foot in Llhasa city and the Potala Palace 25 years ago - there is such a drastic change since China took over ... I miss the old Potala Palace with the lake but now all cement and commercial shops ... the plus point of China take over is when I had the 4-wheel drive across Tibet - WE had mobile signal all the way during our 14 days tour even at the three highest passes we crossed.
Guess in Tibet, most of you are not affect by the Covid-19 pandemic : As for the rest of the world, it was tough and even affected the whole Country economy and made many sick, die and even poor - As business & shops have to shut down and the country do so many times of LOCKDOWN.
But how time flies and its been two years so its become a lifestyle for many of us to adapt to the situation. My only stress is now I am unable to travel for the last two years ... and I do hope all will be back to normal soon ... U Take Care Stay Safe
I’m looking in the teary eyes of the little boy monk with the bump on his cheek and heart breaks for his pain. Such tough life these monks live yet they don’t complain one bit. I wish them all good health and happiness. Always.
A child is a child no matter what, the young monk for moment was a child through his tears I thought please if his mother couldn’t give him the hug he needed I pray someone did because all I saw was the pain of no affection, I wished I could have put arms around him to soothe him and wipe away his tears, such a hard thing to see him try to be brave..it’s almost to harsh a life for someone so young. Sending many prayers to all the children 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️☘️☘️☘️
@@evelynmcconnell6833 I felt the same. I wanted to hug him...
@@evelynmcconnell6833 Stop applying your snowflake culture to others. Western kids are spoilt and became soft. In their harsh isolated environment, one need a tough psychological upbringing.
If you watch again this documentary you'll be surprised of how many smiles are there. So I guess wishing them happiness is not needed. If you watch more closely you'll see that they are very fit and strong. So I guess whishing them health is not needed. I think we should wish for us happiness and health because we have lost our ways in decaying cities from all the stand points. If you disagree is not the time for you to understand it
@@evelynmcconnell6833
I totally agree how we feel however buddhism revolves around the belief that all emotions and everything in fact is just temporary
,'Change-the only constant '.. is one of the core principles taught by Buddha himself.. as everything else just leads to more ignorance🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great to learn about the diversity of cultures.

Glad to see familiar faces from the "Himalayas land of Women." Your amazing content keeps me coming back for more.. Power on Marianne Chaud! 🇵🇭
What an amazing video those young monks what a life they lead have strong faith no easy lifestyle we take for granted 🙏
I really enjoyed this but there was an underlying issue nagging at me. The "young ethnologist" makes inexcusable errors throughout. The biggest problem was asking the mother about not being around her son and if it made her sad. She did that in front of the child. Then she did it again. She also did it to the boy several times, as if she wanted them to feel the pain of their separation. The next thing you know the kid is crying and blaming it on the mumps, but it was the "young ethnologist" that instigated those tears. Why? It was uncool for sure. She asked him again from couple of different angles when they left the house to return to the monastery Finally, when the kid is walkiing on tricky terrian she starts talking to him about falling.
I think the "young ethnologist " needs therapy.
Typical stupid western behaviour 🤮🤮 YOU HAVE TO BE ........ YOU HAVE TO BE .......... Always looking and creating problems !
I felt the same. She did not connect to the honesty in which the young monk really pursued and loved the monastic life. instead, she was digging with questions of a "western mind" - to search for drama and painful emotions. "are you not going to leave the monastery"? no. "forever?". she was really searching for the cracks in happiness the child clearly showed.
it's actually not a "western mind" per se, just a very afflicted mind, who was never trained in what brings lasting happiness and what is non beneficial for one's life. So she attaches value to painful emotions as if they were real, and thinks that if she manages to revive them then "the truth is revealed".
otherwise, i did enjoyed the movie. their difficult yet obviously happy and satisfying life is admirable. their basic kind heart and is obvious.
Brothers from the Himalayan sky~

Thank you for this another heartwarming Docu.. it feels really good to watch this, This people are considered more Blessed than Us watching this docu... their genuine embrace of the simplicity of their lives... Not a single idea of the Nations on War, or how high tech now is the world and how the third wolrd countries are suffering from famine and Malnutrition and not even aware maybe how corona virus impairs the whole world...👌👏...
So you think these people are quite stupid then? Just because their lives are so different from ours does not make them simple.

Have they truly chosen this path ? Attachment to mother/caregiver is a universal human need. See any talk given by Gabor Mate. Where does that attachment need get validated in the society of monks ? Sorry to be the party pooper, but this is child abuse masquerading as holiness. Widespread reports of sexual abuse in these monasteries. Do your own research.
