    Cool stuff like this happens in the most unique, and perhaps the most iconic rallying event of the year and we can't get proper coverage of it. Meanwhile, the equipment that allows WRC promoters to produce live coverage of rallies sits idle in the hangars. It's such a shame! Frustrating even!

    • @usurpareltrono
      @usurpareltrono 2 года назад +46

      It is a logistical nightmare, you have to remember these stages are 400km and more some days whereas a typical WRC stage is going to be between 10km and 30km - then you’d have to factor in sending all those images/data back to the TV truck and then beamed via satellite to each TV station that covers the event, the costs escalate quite rapidly! But aye, I too long for more coverage, maybe one day!

    People have died in way less water flow than that. I would definitely not be sitting in the race car like that. Those guys are nuts. The guy who just runs across it and falls in the deep spot, damn dude. I'm scared to be in the sand washes in the desert around my house in Arizona when it barely rains. Heard too many horror stories from all the old timer offroad racers. I can't believe they both got out of this.

      The best thing they could have done is stayed with the vehicle.... It was stuck and stable... At least stay put until absolutely no other choice but to risk leaving the safety of your vehicle. Don't move until a crew can get there and help you in the swift waters. If you get swept up with help there they can send help after you. You get swept up while they're not there then you're on your own.

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Год назад

      @@medix1203 Don't forget, it's a race, not just an afternoon fooling about. They have the mindset of trying to get out as quickly as possible, sometimes safety and rational thinking takes a back seat then, for better or worse.
      Not to mention, it's not a given that other competitors will help you, they are not obligated to. And non-competitors aren't allowed to touch your car, unless you forfeit the race and give up entirely.

      @medix1203 Год назад +1

      @@DrTheRich I get that it's a race but when shit like this occurs, then it's no longer a race it's a rescue live saving mission. They were best to just stay right where they were until help arrived.... But I guess being a Firefighter/ medic I have NO CLUE about swift water rescue right?

    • @DrTheRich
      @DrTheRich Год назад

      @@medix1203 Easy for you to claim behind the keyboard. What it should have been, and what it actually was in the situation ar two different things. Also these guys live for the thrill of these rough moments on the edge, of life or death. Not everyone understands that, or would do the same, that's ok, but don't project your believes on others.
      You probably have a clue about swift water rescues, they have no clue, and you weren't there. Btw there is a firefighter team in the race with a truck, a pity they weren't there at that time.
      People die during Dakar rallies, because it's an extreme sport, just like cliff jumping, skydiving, or rock climbing. Despite all modern safety rules, equipment, precautions and experience. That danger is part of the appeal for people who join. It's not for everyone, or rather, it's not for most people.

    That's why I like overlanding a bit more than rally, as the people travelling slower are usually prepared for various situations and able to self-rescue their rigs. But I do understand that Dakar is rally and cars are specialized a bit too much, weight is kept low to carry some self rescue equipment, especially on small vehicles. So those guys are still heroes to me without a doubt!
    What is nice and assuring that this world is not completely broken is amount of help between the "players" - teams. There is a help for those in troubles - no matter the team. That's great and I hope it will stay that way.

      La Niña is still in control. It's the third La Niña event in a row. This is rare, but not unheard of. How many triple La Niña are there? Only twice since reliable records began in the 1950s has there been a triple La Niña - once in 1973-1975 and again in 1998-2001. El Niño and La Niña are climate patterns in the Pacific Ocean that can affect weather worldwide. along with solar activity and weakened magnetic field A significant reduction of the solar magnetic field during grand solar minima will undoubtedly lead to the increase of intensity of galactic and extra-galactic cosmic rays, which, in turn, lead to a formation of high clouds in the terrestrial atmospheres. much is happening globally too cause we have entered a grand solar cycle what comes around about every 350-400 years and so far we only seen the tip of what to come over the next 25 years may be more. 2020-2053 forecast length this cycle but some say it could last longer

    Wow that was incredible. Even the big trucks were stuck at some point. The one thing that always worries me in these situations is that the cable could snap, especially when they are getting a running start. This could injure or kill anyone near.. I was worried about those guys in the first part of the video... I would have gotten farther away.. And then the drivers staying in the cars.. I'm so glad the water level didn't increase, but boy all it takes is a wave to flip the vehicle, then you're trapped.. Man my heart is still racing.. I'm so glad everyone is ok.
