  • If your Sonos Roam portable speaker won't turn on or light up, here's a quick fix. Disconnect charger and hold power button (on the back) for 12 seconds. This will force a reboot. Hold the power button for 2 seconds after that to restart.

    My Roam is completely bricked.
    Common fault from what I see in the community.
    It worked ok for a couple of years, but now it's dead - except for occasional orange light on charger.
    I bought the additional Sonos dock and have always used this, so I know it's not the lead.
    I have Sonos throughout the house and generally like it, but the Roam has always been temperemental.
    I am going to buy something else to replace it

      Bummer! My Roam is going on 3 years old now, still working. It has seemed to be bricked a couple of times when I was using it with a 3rd party wireless charger. But I've always been able to get it to start charging again by holding in the power button when plugging in the charging cable directly to the unit. I decided to stop using the 3rd party wireless charger and just leave it plugged into a USB C cable and it hasn't shut down for months now.

    I have two Sonos Roams and they occasionally go to sleep and are very difficult to wake up, hit or miss getting my iPhone 13 Pro Max to connect with Bluetooth, sometimes don't play sound when I select the Roam to add to another group of Sonos speakers, and sometimes disappear or show not ready in the Sonos App. Very frustrating at times. They sound great when they work. I don't know if the Sonos Move is better at staying connected and has less issues compared to the Roam?

    • @ChrisBoylan
      @ChrisBoylan  Год назад +1

      Hey. Bummer. I've had the Roam get unresponsive once in a while, but normally only when we didn't leave it charging properly. I use a generic wireless charger which tends to shut itself off permanently once the Roam reaches 100% charge, and this leads to the Roam battery dying after a couple of days. I can get around that by occasionally taking the Roam off the charger and putting it back on. That allows it to resume charging. I don't know if the Move is any better than the Roam for reliability as it's one of the few Sonos speakers I've never tested.

    Worst speaker I’ve ever owned. Bought two and one has never worked, kept cutting out, making loud high pitched noises. It’s in Poland now, god knows if they’ll replace it. The other one works ok but why on gods tiny earth does it not work immediately it’s in a socket. What a pain in the arse.

    My Roam just stops playing music every 15 to 30 minutes or so using Airplay or Spotify Connect, seems random, and started to shut down while talking to Google Assistant or Alexa recently, either with both voice assistants I can’t get it to play any music at all.
    It’s definitely not Wi-Fi, my network works fine for everything else, with high speed, 0 buffering and all my other devices work stable while streaming any content, and the rest of my family’s devices work rock solid at home, as well.
    I’ve tried factory reset but it didn’t work, rebooting my router or moving away devices didn’t make any improvement, even tried to reach out Sonos tech-support here in Mexico, but nobody answers the calls hanging up on me and the chats Get disconnected, and, after replacing it twice all of them have had the same issues.
    What can I do at this point? I’ll be returning it as soon as I can and keep using my Amazon Echo 4th gen and even by an other one, they’re great.
    Sonos, What an unreliable product this is

    • @ChrisBoylan
      @ChrisBoylan  Год назад

      Not sure. I haven't heard of others having this issue. I've used mine daily for about two years with Alexa as the voice assistant. We even take it in the shower regularly without any issues. Seems really strange that you've already replaced it twice and have had the same problems on all three units. Do you leave yours plugged into the USB C charger or are you using the Sonos wireless charging base?
      And when you say "factory reset," you mean you're holding the Play/Pause button, press and release the power button, and continue holding the Play/Pause button until the speaker's light starts flashing white and amber, yeah? That usually does a complete factory reset. Then you'd need to do the "add speaker" procedure in Sonos again.

      @@ChrisBoylan Thanks a lot for your reply, I appreciate it.
      In response to your question about the factory reset procedure: Yeah, I hold the Play button while turning on the speaker until the front LED blinks on White and Orange, then it flashes green to set it up.
      Regarding the issues I’m having, if you take a look at the Sonos discussion comunity forums page, there are tons of people reporting many issues with their Sonos systems and unfortunately one of the most affected products is the Roam, having issues from Music cutting out randomly to dead devices that can’t even turn on.
      There, everyone are told to fix our Wifi networks to reduce wireless interference, and Sonos seems to blame our Wifi networks as the main cause for everything, and in the case of dead portable speakers, buy chargers with more amperage, but unfortunately there are cases where nothing seems to work, not even contacting with Tech support.
      I’m glad to hear that your Roam works great, either you’ve got the best Wifi equipment for Sonos, or the unit that you have is in great condissions. Sadly, I’ve got 2 warranty replacements without absolutely no joy, the issues persist

    Thanks but Sonos is a pos. It lost its power and now won't power on at all. Even with the Sonos charger and proper current going in. It is a bad product not worth the high $$, Avoid Sonos. There's several $30 products which have Wifi/Bluetooth and Alexa/Spotify integration that work far better imo. Heck, even the Amazon Echo is a much better speaker and buy at $30 compared to the $250 they charge for Sonos

    • @ChrisBoylan

      I've had some issues using a generic (non-Sonos) wireless charging base for the Roam. The particular charging base I'm using (a Samsung) shuts down charging when the Roam reaches 100% and doesn't automatically resume charging. But this is more an issue with the charger than the Roam. In this case, I've gotten used to spotting the green light on the charging base, then I just lift the Roam up, wait a couple of seconds for the charger to reset then place it back on the base to resume charging.
      But I never had issues when I had the Roam plugged in to its USB-C cable and charger. I assume you've tried both the reboot and the factory reset and neither of these worked for you? The reboot is the process I show in this video. The factory reset is different.
      For a factory reset, you'd need to press and hold the power button on the back for about five seconds or until the Sonos Roam’s LED light goes off. Then hold the Play button and simultaneously press and release the power button to do the reset. Keep holding down on the Play button until the LED light on the front of the speaker flashes orange and white, then release. The light will turn green when the reset is complete. You'd then need to add the speaker in the Sonos app again.

      @@ChrisBoylan Thanks but it did not work. The only light is a faint blinking orange light on the right side (away from Sonos logo). There are no other lights appearing at all. It appears that the battery charge is super ultra low to the point it just is not charging. I have left it plugged in for days and no change. It is just not taking on any charge to even boot up to some hw init for the reset to be recognized

    • @ChrisBoylan
      @ChrisBoylan  Год назад

      Bummer! The only times I've heard of flashing orange are when the charge is very low or the wireless charger has a fault. Have you tried charging with a different USB-C cable and a different wall charger? If the charging wire is bad or the amperage is too low from the wall connector, it's possible it won't charge properly. Anyway, it sucks! Is the unit still under warranty?
