The song is a rehash of new jack swing, which is a western sound itself. IMO a lot of kpop is most just western music trends in korean (but of course not always)
@KingAJ you are right. This song was one of the earliest examples of New Jack swing in K-pop, and acknowledged that at the time. I think the point the op was trying to make is that there is less difference in current trends in the US and Korean releases now. Where early 2010s kpop was more influenced by 80s and 90s US trends than 2010 US trends, sometimes I can't tell if what is on the radio now is kpop or western. I never found that to be the case in earlier generations. Maybe more a result of kpops growing influence than the other way around?

There was really something in all the K-pop songs from 2010-2014 that newbie fans missed. K-pop songs during those times didn't get old up until now. Tbh, other K-pop songs today can't even beat the songs before. Newbies should also give it a try to go back to the old times. :)
