You guys are the best. Together amazing. I appreciate your knowledge but how authentic you both are. I’m around the same age in Boston so saw a lot of the same punk bands same time at the Rat (Rathskellar). You both also sparked me to deeper dive into pysch. Got the Watchband, Alarm Clock and that wacky Prunes album that is like a Latin high mass! Thanks as always for the great content to you both.
Hi, Mazzy! You mentioned Grant’s department store (where you swiped that album) and it brought back some memories for me. We had a Grant’s in Canyon Country, CA and I remember that the ceiling and maybe part of the roof caved in during our February 9, 1971 earthquake! I loved that store back then because it was where I would get some of my G. I. Joe action figures (I was 8)! Good show!
Vinyl Richie can deservedly be proud of Bakersfield’s long history of Country Music Greats! There should be Country Music Museum in Bakersfield with memorabilia from the historic era!
Yes, The Palomino, in NoHo. Saw many shows there. On Lankershim. Sadly, it’s gone. I saw Booker T, and John Trudell with Jesse Ed Davis, to name a couple.
Big trucks, big bucks (Bakersfield). Dane Reynolds grew up there - he moved over to Ventura, and became a surfing animal. John Doe was living near Bakersfield in a rural valley, and the place once got 8-10 ' snow drifts. The local snowboard crew got the mountain on its best season ever. The Palomino Club was a NoHo landmark, and another lesser known club in the area was The Sugar Shack - jailbait central. Fun times. Thanks, Mazzy !
@@vinylrichie007 Hey, Richie. Frazier Park is south of Bakersfield - one of several communities near the mountain. I've met John and his family - they're super nice.
Think about it. The riff to Satisfaction just does not have the flow of the riff to Psychotic Reaction. Count Five live good garage rock. Actually the "Beatle connection" is the Ringo connection. He's the only Beatle who could act (naturally). Put him in the movies.
*SF punk was more an art school project whereas LA was far more wild and out of control. And Vinyl Richie choosing the Mummies is epic. I'm a huge Mummies fan.*
Trout Mask is all those things about Beefheart you said Mazzy, making it, for me, the greatest album ever recorded, as it’s everything I love about music. Sad its so divisive.
What do you say boys.... You two are the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis teamwise of the VC. Top collab.... Your collaboration shows are actually more interesting than when you do your individual videos. You got west coast viewpoint interplay which is always interesting. Well for me their more interesting than your other ones. I like the interplay between you two...... "Fuck you Nashville".. LMAO... Nashville didn't like Hank Williams either but his fame won them over. You can't knock Nashville Ritchie. They had a black musicians program in 1966 when few other city's in the States had one. The program was called the Beat DJ'd by Hoss Allen a famous R&B and Blues DJ on Nashville radio. They had Freddy King, Etta James, Little Milton, Mighty Joe Young, Otis Redding, Joe Tex, Sam & Dave, Clarence Frogman Henry, The Bar Kays, others and Clarence Gatemouth Brown played lead guitar in the shows studio band. A real good band too...... You guys should do these collaborations more often, their good.
Always love when you two team up. About time for another Dick and Norm’a movie talk! So many new artists to check out after watching this vid. ✌️
I'm a huge fan of Dick and Norm's Movie Talk!
Yeeeeesssss!
I always enjoy teaming up with Mazzy.

Thanks for watching.
Mazzy and Vinyl Richie are so good together. You get a sense of mutual respect with humor mixed in.
Thank you

I still feel guilty 😵💫😵💫🙄🤓

Bakersfield certainly has a rich Country history.
I was hoping for the Mazzy/Richie trading places, always great chemistry. Love that Bakersfield sound.
This was fun. I could easily do another one with Mazzy featuring Seattle bands.

Hey Mazzy & Vinyl Richie. Great video. So many cool bands. Loved Vinyl Richie giving a Billy Zoom autograph! Love X! Cheers
Cheers to you too! Happy holidaaze
I wonder what happened to that autograph.
@ Hopefully they enjoyed it, and it gave them a great story to tell! 😎
Trout Mask Replica is the only album I’m scared my wife might catch me listening to
Ha😆

I think I said Burbank.
This video lived up to the hype.
It is always fun hanging out with Mazzy.
When Vinyl Richie is talking about Ty Segall (who i thought was from Orange County) and the Mummies, Mazzy looks confused and lost.
Ty Segall grew up in Laguna Beach . He moved and went to the University of San Francisco.
Ty Segall from VR is a great choice.
High praise from down under.
@ I only bestow it on those who are worthy

I think John Doe moved to Frazer Park just north of Bakersfield.

@@sneakerset I meant south.

I want to get a copy of Never Been Caught.
Worth waiting for the Beefhearts. I bought Trout Mask on import and took it into college, stunning a few people.
I still can’t get into that album.
This was fun

It has some great moments but it has just as many that kind of stink.

Troubadour?
@@davidhoward3376 the Palomino Club.
The Troubadour was in West LA. I think Mazzy was referring to the Palomino in North Hollywood.
Why is it verboten to call San Francisco "Frisco" but okay to call Los Angeles "LA"?
Some natives say Frisco but the equivalent to LA would be SF 🤷🏻♂️
I always call it Frisco.
Hope Bakersfield's agriculture doesn't suffer once its workers are deported by trump. Nice music talk.
