Today it pulled into my driveway from the left (MS HW3). It astounded me!...1st time. Normally stops in front when I arrive from the right. Will test some more.
Well, John. I was installing 12.5.4 while I was watching your video. After the update got done, I went out and tried to navigate to my house but coming in from the left side. I was all excited when it turned on the left blinker, then thought we are coming in a little hot, when it went past my driveway and pulled right into my neighbors driveway. So it did finally go into a driveway, just not the right one. I tried it again, and it started to pull into mine, but the steering wheel was very jerky and it was trying to decide if this was right or not. It finally stopped half in the drive and half in the road with incoming traffic. I had to put it in drive and finish pulling in. (Pro tip. Turn off pin-to-drive when doing this or using smart summons) speaking of smart summons. I tried it tonight. It to turned off while crossing the main entrance of the store. Luckily, I was in the car and was able to pull away after I had to enter the pin to drive. Hence the pro tip. Ass still moves a little slow. It wasn't too bad when it would go 6mph, but it did a lot of 4mph and very indecisive moves. The tentacle was going all over the place. It was dark out I'll have to try it during the day time
I would appreciate is Tesla enabled some sort of driveway mapping. If I could define my parking area and have it reverse in that would be great. Especially since FSD currently can't reverse.
I’ve been letting my version 12.5.2 park my Tesla butt first in my garage for several months now, even relocating my charging cable to more easily serve the car. Based on a RUclips video, I installed 3” gaffer tape on 3 sides just larger than the model Y and it works well, not perfectly, but I end up tweaking it to clear the closing door. To help, I bought a cheap red laser from Amazon and connected it to the garage door light so it will only lite when the door is active. It shines onto the door trim at a specific spot. No problems thus far, tho I do final check door clearance.
I can confirm your testing is accurate. When FSD brings me home and needs to turn left into the driveway, it will pull into the driveway! If the garage is open in time before it pulls in the driveway, it will also pull straight up to the spot that is open in the garage! The first time it did it I thought it was going to pull into the garage! That feature will come soon enough.
I currently have FSD 12.5.4. This version and all the ones before slows down approaching my driveway (on the left) and keeps moving. It has never stopped for me. I would love it to pull into my drive and stop. This is the first video I have seen documenting it. I’m excited to experiment more. Thanks for making the video.
As of yesterday I have 2023 M3p AI3 w/ v12.5.4 - 2024.27.25. My car has 100% pulls in my driveway with all the past versions of v12 mon the left side of road. There is a cul-de-sac past my house and it has turned in the driveway testing it to do a U-turn back to home on the NAV. I will test several times.v12.3.6 turned left in my daughter’s house in another town one time. Great video
There probably is just not enough training clips that document people parking in their driveway. You would need millions of clips with at least some overlap in driveway configurations to get it to understand. Evidently right now they have more clips coming from the left than the right. Great reveal!
That explains a lot. I live in a cul-de-sac and can only approach my driveway from the right. Went to a friend's house awhile back and it tried to park in the driveway (actually wanted to back in). The problem was he lives in a townhouse and it wanted to park in his neighbor's driveway
We live in a gated community, and ours doesn't pull in the driveway on the right side. When coming from the left side it does, but it doesn't follow our pavers correctly to the garage door because they also go to the side of our house. So I don't think this is actually even intended for pulling into driveways. It's just doing it so the car doesn't park on the wrong side of the road. We got FSD 12.5.4
While on 12.3.6 approaching from the left, I noticed once it doubted if it should park on my driveway and then kept going past. I think because there was a parked car on the right side of the streets that forced it to drive on the middle of the street. So next time, I signaled left when I approached and surprise it went for it. If you use the turn signal, it was very repeatable on at home. It is worth noting it is a 2 car wide driveway, and it always parks in the middle with a little bias towards the right.
My FSD does not go onto my driveway. super annoying. When I set destination to home, if i dont stop it when it gets there, it will past my home, and go around the block over and over.
I've gotten FSD 12.5.2 in my HW4 Model Y to park in my driveway, from the left, by putting the turn signal on. No luck from the right (with and without turn signal). My HW3 Model S will not do it regardless of direction or turn signal. Looking forward to 12.5.4 and if it will turn into my driveway!
The only issue comes if you want to charge. I always park backwards into my driveway since the charge port is in the back. If the car drives forward into the driveway, it will be difficult to plug into charge.
Some people have had success if they line the edges of their driveway with white tape (temporary - good for testing) or paint (permanent), and then use auto-park. Sure, car must be disengaged from FSD before auto-park can be used which takes time and is not as nice as it pulling into the driveway at the end of a trip, but it can still be useful in some scenarios. It works because auto-park interprets it as a parking spot.
I have noticed a major regression between 12.5.4 and 12.5.2.1. My car would confidently enter the driveway from the left (only) and park beside my other car. Now, even with my other car out of the wide driveway, there is a total lack of confidence and, at times, inability to come into the driveway at all. The wheel swings wildly back and forth. I wonder if you’ve seen this on 5.4 as well.
I have never tried coming from the left. I always come into my subdivision from the right. I would have to go out of my way to come from the left, but it's worth a try
Same problem, here. 2017 M3 LR on 12.5.4.0 AND 12.5.4.1 car approaches driveway, announces destination on left, turns on RIGHT turn signal and usually drives right by and takes the next right, drives around the block, rinse, repeat! Sometimes, it pulls over to the RH side of the road and stops across the street from my house. What weird, is that it is NOT consistent and that makes me uncomfortable.
It parked twice in the neighbors driveway of a friend with 12.4.3 (just got 12.5.4 but I haven't tried it yet). Both time I was arriving with the driveway on the left side of the car (as for you).
I bet the training set has data from someone with a similar driveway that always parks coming into the driveway turning left. It’s likely a side effect of the training data and not by design which would explain why it only works in turning left and into specific driveway. To make it work for more driveways and turning right into the driveway, Tesla will need to add more examples of people going into driveway from different directions and into different driveways. This is likely a low priority as their #1 priority is Robotaxi which keeps to stop by the curb and their focus is 200% on avoiding safety intervention so they’ll be able to launch robotaxi (even with safety drivers) sooner rather than later.
My road used to be 2 lanes North and 2 lanes South with a double yellow line in the middle, 12.3.6 used to turn into my driveway from either side. Recently the road was changed to one lane North and one lane South separated by a middle turn lane. Also, bike lanes were added on both sides, i.e. now there is a solid white line in front of my driveway that the car won't cross.
I have 12.5.4 and it happened to me just once. I come in from the left but the car usually stops across the street from my house on the right side on the road.
For safety and charging reasons, I always pull in to my driveway in reverse, always have, even when I was driving ICE. I have a single-door double wide style garage door and only one bay is set up for the car. Question: What if I (or anyone else) were to paint or tape lane guides on the driveway to allow the cameras to align the car with the garage space? I don't know enough about the optics/physics of the cameras to know if they can see a special type of paint that would appear nearly invisible to the human eye, thereby making it more likely more folks would be willing to add parking lanes to the driveways? 12.5.4 release notes states that driveway/garage solutions are to be expected in an upcoming FSD upgrade. Woo Hoo!
i wonder will it now able to park into your own garage without the parking slot drawn/marked? since with newer version available after auto park was introduced few months back
Does the Tesla app have precise location permission in your phone? Just trying to give you ideas of what it may be. I noticed my navigation will be on a certain road, then tell me to make a U-turn to get on the road I'm already on. (?)
Volkswagen has a great parking “memory” function that records your driveway approach and parking. Tesla should add something similar. Even if the Tesla pulls into the driveway it might not park where you want it. ie left side or right side (think spouses space, etc) whereas if there is some “memory” the parking should be repetitive.
The car has NO LONG TERM MEMORY. Saying it has to start from the same driveway and then return to it is complete rubbish. The reason it turns into the left driveway is because it needs to swing wide to enter it. Since you are on a TWO WAY road there is ample room to swing left straight into the driveway. If that were a narrow one way road, and especially if there were cars parked all along the road, it would behave the same as if it were on the right. It won't put itself into a position where it has to reverse. I live in Queens, NYC. My driveway is on the left of a one-way street with back-to-back parked cars on both the left and right sides. I am currently on 12.5.4/HW3/2022 Model Y. It NEVER turns into the driveway and I too must always take over at the end of every trip. If I leave FSD engaged it will just stop in the middle of the road UNLESS there is an open spot (rare where I live) and then it will pull slightly over to that spot just like an Uber would on either side.
I got the 30 days fsd a few months ago. The first two times coming home, it would just kinda pull over to the right but didn't pull into my driveway on the left. The third time, i decided to take over and pull into my driveway and hit the report that it's wrong destination. The next day and days after that, it always pulled into my driveway.
As long as there’s no obstacles in the road in front of the house, i.e. lawnmower companies, trash cans on garbage pick up day, etc. my car about 50% of the time will make the left-hand turn into the driveway when I’m full self driving. It’s still very hit and miss.
I don’t have a driveway in front of my house and I want the car to always approach so the house is on the right so it can park in front on the street. I wonder if someday we’ll be able to specify situations like that. I also wonder in your situation if there were a car parked at the curb right before that driveway, making the Tesla be more in the middle of the street, if it would then be willing to make that right turn into the driveway since it’s a wider turn?
I've never had 12.3.6 pull in into my long driveway. It actually always wanted to pull into my neighbors driveway just before the cul de sac I live on. I've had 12.5.1.5 drive into my driveway once. I was so surprised. But I was only on 12.5.1.5 for 2 days and 12.5.4 has not done it yet. That said, I'd gladly take 12.3.6 back. The two past versions are absolute junk.
Before this update, it would pull into my driveway if I used the turn signal but not now. I’m in a cul-du-sac. It starts to turn and then gets the wobbly steering wheel and acts like it wants to back in but just stops at an angle in the road. I’ll keep trying because it should learn.
What if, when you're approaching from the right, there was a car parked on the right side of the road just before the driveway, forcing the fsd to go around the parked car, kind of initiating the pull in manouver. I guess it would probably just end the navigation before the parked car though... Nice video 👍 Cheers
HI, thank you for the video. For some reason my car passes my drive and goes about 3 houses away from my house. I have 12.5.4.1 and my car is 3 years 3 months and has always passed my house. I’ve tried to get google to update my address but it shows it further down the road. I’ve even tried to drop a pin and that hasn’t worked.
So the houses are close in my neighborhood and I'm on 12.4 but even on 12.3 it tries to do this for me. Only problem is it always tries to pull into my neighbors driveway. The only way to come at my place does put the driveway on the left.
When I was running FSD 12.3.6, it would pull into my driveway, but now with FSD 12.5.2, it no longer does that. I feel like there are many regressions with 12.5.x compared to 12.3.6
Did you drop a pin for the house? My drive way is long and narrow then widens out with my detached car garage and it's never made any left turn. Also my street is narrow and parking on the same side of the street and my house so it wants to get over but never turns. So I just take over.
My driveway has another car or two in it. Always room for me but fsd doesn't see it as a spot sadly haha. Also my gym has only slanted parking spots and it never detects them as parking spots. Maybe 1 day! Would also like to be able to choose to park forwards as well as backwards.. Maybe one day though
12.4 has surprised me three out of four times by signaling to turn into my driveway. It’s programmed to open the garage door and will pause a tap on the gas. We’re in the garage. If there’s a lot of cars parked in the road, the car has not turned into the driveway. 12.5 also is doing the same. I don’t have to do anything to make this happen.
I doubt that mine will ever park in my garage. I have to back in my driveway, pretty long and then make a 90° turn into the garage within limited space. It currently is willing to nose into my driveway but that is useless.
So everyone commenting on this particular subject, you’re all overthinking it. I should note that, I’m driving on V12.5.4, and as far as I’m concerned, it sucks. It is not an improvement over the previous version. It makes way to many mistakes that it didn’t make before, it even went back to some of the really bad behavior of using a turn lane thinking it’s a straight through lane, then correcting itself, by breaking the law, and so I don’t think I have to tell you guys just how dangerous that is. So it even got in the wrong lane, and basically broke the law by using the wrong lane as a left turn lane in order to follow navigation. Then on top of that, it wouldn’t follow navigation, I mean the problems are horrendous, and it’s not as some have suggested, that they’re experiencing phantom breaking, but instead, what I’ve experienced is it slowing down in areas where it doesn’t need to slow down, and it does this repeatedly at the same spot every single time, as if it doesn’t know what it’s doing, and it’s lost its way. I should also mention that, with speed offset turn on, it tends to drive too fast in areas where it should be at or below the speed limit, and when you wanna it to drive at least at the posted speed limit, it drives too slow, and when you turn speed, offset off, and you wanna drive 5 miles above the speed limit, it ignores your input, and the same is true when you decide you wanna make a left or right turn and you have no particular destination identified in navigation, it ignores that input as well. So I’ve tried to reboot the center display screen hoping that would fix some of the bugs in this thing, and it’s just plain buggy. So as far as turning into a driveway, I don’t know anything about that, as I live in a gated community, which is an apartment complex and it will turn into our main driveway, but navigation will not take me to my particular apartment building, so I haven’t experienced it actually turning into a driveway such as what you guys are experiencing, however, I don’t think anyone on this particular channel is getting it right, because Tesla has to get this right, as they only have a few more days to go before the big event, where it’s being speculated that they’re going to announce the launch of the Robo taxi in China. So we’re just gonna have to wait to see whether or not some of these issues that you guys are experiencing and the issues that are happening in my area, because as I said, V12.5.4, sucks and I wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t so bad, as it has shaken my confidence in this particular build of the software, and I don’t know where this is all going, but they’ve gotta get this thing figured out, because right now it’s just not living up to the hype, and I’ve had FSD from the very beginning buying in at 3K, and watching it go to 15K, and finally settling back at 8K, and I don’t think anyone should buy it at that price until they get this thing figured out, because it’s just not practical in its present state of operation. Cheers 🥂
If you need to turn right onto the driveway, just take a wide birth to the left and then engage. It isn’t turning in when the driveway is right hand side because you are too close to the curb
Would it work if you painted or taped a standard parking space on the surface of your driveway? Would FSD recognize the space and auto park? You could label it "For Teslas Only" 😉
Pretty much all the assumptions I heard don't apply to my use of FSD. v12.5.1.3. 1) I have had FSD park in my driveway from the right. Not often though. 2) Approaching from the left it parks about 1/3 the time in my driveway. The rest of the time it either drives past or stops on the right. No pattern I can see. 3) I cannot start FSD in my driveway. Not only that but once I am in my road I cannot start FSD either. I always have to push the accelerator pedal to initiate FSD. 100% of the time. 4) My road only has 4 houses and has extremely limited traffic. speed limit is 15mph. Been using FSD since 10/2021. The destination pin is in my driveway.
like @linuxwarrior1 comment below, it worked for me in 12.3.6 if I turned the turn signal on. Today I installed 12.5.4. I started in the driveway. It was more jerky than 3.6 getting on to the road. When I returned after going to the store, I approach from the left, put the signal on as before (maybe I should have waited for it to do that) and it did the jerky steering wheel thing and then stopped in the road, then started going straight again. I need to test it more, but that is what happened the first time using 12.5.4.
My house is at the end of a culdesac, slightly to the left. My car will follow around the right of the circle and pull into my driveway by turning right, but not consistently. I usually back in so I don't actually let it park most of the time. Seems more willing to do it if there's already a car in the driveway to pull behind.
V12.3.6. Won’t turn left into my 200 ft driveway from a busy street (with no traffic). When I force it to turn left, it kicks out and asks why… and I’m home and it’s too stupid to recognize this. Right turns into my driveway are a total no go. 6 years of FSD with this issue. To say I’m disgusted is a big understatement. Anyone who thinks FSD is normal driving on city streets is dreaming in my part of the world (Los Angeles) unless you don’t mind upsetting drivers behind you all the time. To all reviewers, if you are demonstrating FSD and not showing its faults, you are a disservice to mankind. It’s as big a lie as saying hybrids are the answer. End of rant. Thank you.
FSD thinks my house is the 2nd house once you pull into my neighborhood, but my house is the 11th house down the road. It doesn’t attempt to enter anyone’s driveway. It occasionally pulls to the edge of the road on the right, and parks. I’m on 12.3.6.
He was protecting the driveway from being worn out. Once a Tesla moves into your neighborhood that neighborhood is lost, you might as well sell your house
That intro with the music feels like a memorial video was about to start.

1st world problems. But i have this problem! Appreciate the video.
Manually using the blinker sometime turns into drive way 12.3.6
As long as there’s no obstacles in the road in front of the house, i.e. lawnmower companies, trash cans on garbage pick up day, etc. my car about 50% of the time will make the left-hand turn into the driveway when I’m full self driving.
Nice video 👍
Cheers
Mines not on 12.5.3 but on 12.3.6, If the driveway is empty it will park in the driveway and if a car is in the driveway it will park on the road.
I feel like there are many regressions with 12.5.x compared to 12.3.6
For me it always tries to park on my neighbours driveway (sometimes missing it by two driveways). Only does this with left turn.
You told the neoughbour it's 12.5.3? 😆
It may matter on the mapping data for that address.
I doubt that mine will ever park in my garage. I have to back in my driveway, pretty long and then make a 90° turn into the garage within limited space. It currently is willing to nose into my driveway but that is useless.
11:42 is hilariously suspicious. Random car speeds off of unknown origin haha😂
I had a version early this year that the first time I used it it pulled into my driveway which is on the left. It never did ever again after that....
Cheers 🥂
@@theodorehaskins3756 wow! Long and very interesting comment. Sorry to hear the latest version isn’t performing well for you.
why am i missing your videos!! youtube sucks!!!
If you need to turn right onto the driveway, just take a wide birth to the left and then engage. It isn’t turning in when the driveway is right hand side because you are too close to the curb
Just got the Y 2025 it doesn't go into my driveway using FSD either 😂
I noticed this behavior on 12.4.3
Would it work if you painted or taped a standard parking space on the surface of your driveway?
You are on an old version. I have FSD 12.5.4.1
@@gbinman Yep, the latest video on my channel shows 12.5.4.1 testing with A.S.S. 😉
like @linuxwarrior1 comment below, it worked for me in 12.3.6 if I turned the turn signal on.
12.3.6 come from the north it pulls in come from the south drives right on by
$15 for white gaffers tape on Amazon. Think your buddy would let you put parking lot lines in his driveway to test auto-parking? Hmm!
💙💙💙
Tesla nav ends my trip two houses before mine. Very frustrating.
13:59 that dude doesn’t have any idea what the significance of the version numbering is. 😅 lol
Be careful. Some people have been shot for pulling into a driveway unprompted.
He was protecting the driveway from being worn out. Once a Tesla moves into your neighborhood that neighborhood is lost, you might as well sell your house
Screw that nosy neighbor. This is none of his business
1:08 Your explanation of that minor incident is a poor attempt at mind reading.
