Brilliant tip! Thanks for the idea to stuff an old 1/2 brush in there to get by until the new ones arrive. Just as well I never chuck anything out. The used up Makita jigsaw brushes are the same dimensions. Fixed it up and I can still keep working! The GA5030 is back in action.

    All done under 5 minutes,
    excellent.

Clever idea shoving the half-brushes in there. I may need to do this with my Craftsman Dremel knockoff, since it intermittently fails to run, or not at full speed all the time. I checked the brushes and they seemed rather short as well.
Internet shopping.... the bane of my existence.

It worked quite well. As a get you home it is a good fix until the spares arrive.

Thanks my man! I needed my GA5030 today and the brushes are too low. I used your idea and got some old brushes cut in half enough to stuff in there and fill the void. Would be waiting 2 weeks for brushes otherwise and wouldn't be able to get on with the project. Your idea saved the day!

Owen, good find with the guard, cable and disc nut. It's rare we get that sort of luck, cheers

I have a GA5010 Makita angle grinder. (5") It started making noises then tripped my breaker. I have it apart now. Is that what usually fails? The brushes? If so, good news, bc they are easy to re&re! I've been using it more lately bc I am trailblazing and use it to sharpen my hatchet.

It depends on how far it is gone, such a cheap part means it's worth a try.

I have this exact grinder in 110v and its intermittently cutting out and wont turn on, occasionally even tripping the fusebox, ive changed the brushes, got a new transformer and it's still fucked, any ideas?

Dodgy cable, the cables get dogs abuse on these and I have seen the insulation inside break down, could be one cable touching the other. Easy to try and see.

Thanks I'll give the cable a check, didn't even think of that lol. It just seemed to die completely randomly and then turn on at random, never managed to get it to come back to life with the switch turned on though thats why I thought it could have been something more complicated. I'm a fettler in a foundry so I'm using it for 30 seconds every 2 minutes but for a solid 7 hours so I thought I might have been overworking it as it seemed to only piss about when it got warm. I'll check the cable over tomorrow and I'll let you know if i fix it :)
