    How much longer does the male side need to be per joint when using a jig and is it a standard width?

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  11 дней назад

      If you cut your female joint and lay that in place you can measure your length if you make board that way, failing that always cut it long then tom to fit afterwards

    Great video, I have a hard time cutting a laminated worktop with a Makita jig saw, what blade did you use for jig and was the speed on high or low? Thanks

    Lewis, have you not thought of using biscuits for alignment? Work great and saves all the faffing with tapping every couple tighten of the bolt - and adds another fixing for the belt and braces approach

      Yes I have mate, I actually use dominos but as this is a tutorial I keep it as simple as possible, thanks for the comment buddy 👍🏻🍻

    Hi mate, great video, with the ceramic sink how did you make the hole for the tap? Thanks in advance

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  8 месяцев назад

      Hi mate, you can either use a diamond drill bit but you have to go really slowly or you can tap it out from the top, they normally mark where you tap from on the top, either way it’s not a fun job to do and you really have to be careful and take you time

      Thank you very much, I normally use Dow Corning but I think this was soudal

    Hi, have you fitted 12mm compact laminate yet? I normally talk people out of it because of the price but i think the day will come!

    Hi Lewis, would a laminate trimmer be any good for trimming off the excess trim on the top of the breakfast bar ?

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it would be buddy, works really well, you have to go careful but fine if your competent, also it can still leave a sharp edge so I would still recommend using a bit of sand paper to knock the corner off

    Hey, I'm trying to fit an IKEA laminate worktop which is 28mm thick. I don't think I can use bolts to secure two different sections due to it's low thickness. Can I just silicone it together? Thanks!!

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  9 месяцев назад

      You can use bolts in a 28mm thick work too buddy, just set you bolt depth to about 15mm. I wouldn’t recommend only siliconing them together mate as they could separate

      Nice job , but why didn’t you lay the male worktop underneath the female and mark a 8.5 mm scribe line just in case the female top is out of square?

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  9 месяцев назад

      @@paulknights1764 thank you, I didn’t have to in this instance as I knew it was sqaure

    Are all routers the same, I was thinking of getting one for my 18v makita, I’m fitting my kitchen out at the moment

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  7 месяцев назад +1

      No they are not buddy, the 18v makita is a great little router but it’s not man enough for bigger jobs. What are you thinking of doing with the router ?

    • @LTWCarpentry
      @LTWCarpentry  7 месяцев назад +1

      I would try and get something with atleast 2000w motor buddy, it’s surprising how much power you need to cut these worktops even when doing smaller cuts
