Still think Ruthie was magnificent, 46 years later. RIP sweet lady, you brought the music to life for me. You can see by the look in her eyes, she was sad, this was the end of an era. Fitting that she had the main solo in the finale

Firstly Silver Star was and is a brilliant 70s pop song, but to perform to that really took some imagination and creativity and Pans People delivered that in spades week in week out.
They were fit in the truest sense, had a sense of fun, the choreography always diverse and they were indeed lovely beautiful women who were not only real professionals of our generation but gave us that extra magic😎👌
I understand this was Pan's Peoples last performance. I think I could actually see the emotion in their faces. Having only recently "found" Pan's People I am reading and watching as much as possible. Wonderful ladies that were committed to their work and each other. Total class!
Sadly you will find many of their members over the years have passed away relatively young by today's standards
Sue seems to be (as I think she often was in her later PP performances) putting on an ice-maiden look, but Ruth is plainly on the verge of tears.

Father came out from behind his evening paper for two and a half minutes for this in 1976.

As a teenager of the 70s the highlight of the week was Thursday night for a dose of TOTP and Pans People played there part. Beautiful ladies, always graceful.

What a fantastic time to be a teenager...girls were girls, boys were boys who longed to meet a girls like Pams People. Feminine, elegant, beautiful and no tattoos.

I worked with Ruth's dad, from 1990 - 91. His name was Alfie Peters, and he was Burmese. He was a great chap and very proud of Ruth.

In fact Ruth had not been there from the start, although it must have felt like that.. the first line-up was established in December 1966, and Ruth joined in March 1967.
30 is the age that physical features show age. Dancers know this.Their reaction time is also slower.
Models in New York City retreat to the theatre because their telephones stop ringing. People that hire models and dancers have a much more critical eye than someone not in the business. There are exceptions but most careers of dancers and models shutdown at 30!
I remember watching this live and watching again after all these years made me a little emotional. You can see the emotion in Ruth’s face and the tears on her cheeks. Boy, it made me tear up a little!!!

So agree. Beautifully thought through to give her the solo in this particular part of the song. Ruth along with Sue, who were the stalwarts of the troupe were both honoured with solos in last appearances by Flick.

I actually used to go to dance classes and used to stand in front of the TV copying Pans People. I so desperately wanted to be one! My poor dad had to watch my clumsy dancing instead of this lovely ladies! 😂😂😂
When I was about 10 women dancing on Top of the Pops, what was all that about ?. By the age of 14 they literally were the highlight of the week and lets not forget here amidst their beautiful skimpy outfits they were paying homage to an absolutely brilliant group.
Still loving this over forty years later. Remember this one so well because of Sue's costume catching her head early on (50 secs or so). What became Ruth's (and Mary's?) and PPs last performance - looking back now it's clear that Ruth is visibly emotional on her solo dance... and of course BBC never asked the Presenter TB to say it was a last performance. A great song to end PP on though. Sue seems to be centre stage on this one too and Cherri's abs wow.

MMM....I think that a lot to do with the girls looking better here(, especially Ruth Pearson) is that they just looked more natural re: make-up,(as many girls did at that time) and hairstyles maybe and just that these girls are slim being dancers. Today in our society there is a problem with being overweight (for both sexes). Another reason would be that this was a time when tattoes were not in vogue which of course we didnt see on girls in 1976 as times were different then and because they are dancers and fairly slim, this gave them much more appeal, especially with their more sultry and sexy routines that they did.

Now life in Britain is like Orwell's 1984 - full of hypersensitive, grey, 'liberals' and hypersensitive immigrants who are permanently offended and eager to report the slightest perceived 'disrespect'. It is a depressing, boring and colourless way of life. I think that a couple of decades ago it would have saved everyone grief if a message had been sent to all people contemplating a move to Britain - if you are thin-skinned and do not have a sense of humour don't move here. Lots of immigrants moved here in the 50s and 60s and integrated perfectly well - the most recent arrivals, encouraged by 'liberals', seem to believe that our way of life is shit and it's their mission to displace our culture.

Now people stream their music on demand and young people wouldn't watch a chart show with acts miming. It's got nothing to do with feminism, communism or anything else. Just plain old fashioned consumerism and a changed market. They were great dancers though. It's obvious that most of them trained as ballet dancers. They were so graceful.
