When I used to work at the WTC in NYC, the White men who were attracted to black women didn't go after black women who looked like Tyra or Beyonce, they dated and married the ones who looked like Alek Wek and guest. One of my whiter than white teachers in highschool who was also of Jewish/German descent married a black, educated woman who migrated from Africa. I know it's weird for a relatively light-skinned person to envy darker skinned black women but in Australia, there are LOADS of Sudanese women and they are just as dark as Alek Wek and the other woman but DAYUM, their skin as absolutely perfect and flawless. I was comparing my Sudanese friend and I. My face is blotchy my cheeks look kinda yello while the rest of my face just looks normal brown but I have so many shades and I had a period of bad pimples but my friend had the most gorgeous one-shade perfect shiny skin. I still love myself but I think as an African I know that we are hard on ourselves because of society's view of dark skin shade but when we learn to love the fact that we're different, we could become stronger and not have as many Africans / African Americans/ African Europeans..etc having as many identity crises as they are now
