Oh Denise, thank you for being so real. I had cancer three years ago and my hair never really came back. It's so devastating that you reach points in your mind that your life is over! You have given me the courage to try different wigs. I am 65 now and have finally been able to put my "hair depression" on the back burner. I've started painting and writing and I plan to go back to college next summer. What you are doing is so important to so many people. Thank you!

The big issue I have is I have gray hair...I wear several different colors of wigs. So, consequently, I don't know what color to dye it! If I do ir my bio color..that's a 4 but then what do I do when I wear lighter shades...so I find, for me, buzzing us better...my wigs fit better, stay on better and are cooler.
    You look beautiful 😍

My hair is salt/pepper mix and does limit wearing different color wigs. My gray is very color resistant and sometimes has a purple hue or the color doesn’t last very long. One day I thought this is ridiculous, why am I dying my hair just to cover it with a wig? So I keep mine very short too.

I buzz my hair once a month. I don't blend because it's still a process. I don't wear wigs at home or around family gatherings. It's silly I should be so worried about strangers looking at my buzzed head but I don't feel comfy without a wig in public. I guess it's more for my benefit to blend in. I love wigs and I love your channel for all the info and education plus it's fun to watch! I can identify, I have some rare immune system issues. Much love and healthy vibes. 😀✌️

So beyond grateful that you posted this incredibly helpful video! I lost like 90% of my hair when I was in my late 30’s due to an undiagnosed thyroid problem & had to wear wigs for 4+ years. I discovered how awesome, & how difficult, wearing a wig was. I am now 61 & disabled due to degenerative disc disease but, my hair is super thick, frizzy & I keep it just long enough to pull it into a pony because I can no longer “do” my hair. I used to be the type who wouldn’t even go check my mailbox unless I was “made up”! Now, I am stuck sitting at home every day since cant drive nor go anywhere that doesn’t have riding carts so, I’ve lost my drive to keep myself made up. I finally got to the point that I knew this was wasting my precious time on earth & I wanted to stop being so apathetic about myself & decided I would buzz cut & go back to wigs but, I hadn’t thought about all the important little details you talked about! Now, thanks to you, I’m going to cut my hair short & look for wigs that look like who I want to be & start getting out in God’s amazing world again!! Thank you!! You are such an inspiration!!!❤️❤️

Thanks Denise, so helpful. Hopefully this entry will help someone else too. I lost about 70% of my hair & it looked horrible so i ended up buzzing because couldn't stand the look of stringy, patchy, frizzy looking hair. It was easier to wash,& dry and not much to take care of. But now im letting it grow (9 months out) boy was i not prepared for how different the texture would be, my hair was soft, wavy and somewhat thin before. Now it is course, thick and very unruly. (😬) i also was not prepared for the salt and pepper, i had always colored it a dark color that i didn't even know what my real color was! I no longer want to color it, but it is so hard to blend the salt/pepper with the dark shades, so I am continually root spraying the sides. I even buzzed around the edges and back to blend better, but like you, now you can see the white sideburns if my wig blows in the wind. Its ALL so very hard, and definetly a learning curve as we go. We are all in this together sisters. ☺

I don't buzz, but I stopped coloring my hair in 2020. Just an idea, think about growing the sides a few inches for use with wigs. I use "Just for Men" 10-minute hair color for the sides only, and it looks great when I pull out those few hairs to hide the edges of the wigs. My hair is also salt-and-pepper and the colored part blends fine with the rest.

So I found that 10 month review and was brought to tears…Although I’m not ready to shave yet ,as I am only once and a blue moon wearing my wigs out in public..You mentioned topik ,hats coloured sprays I am doing it all specialty shampoos , treatments colouring hair at the hairdressers and for really what ?????You taught me that in the video ,it was a light bulb moment for me …I can’t really hid it anymore very thinning *I will continue to watch your videos you your self are very inspiring to me .Just need to tell you that ❤️❤️❤️Thank you for what you do 😘

I’m 79. I too have trouble blending with my wigs because of lots of gray hair. I never wear a hat in the house but always have one nearby in case the doorbell rings. Because of the heat I mostly wear hats out in the summer but like my hair longer in back when I do that. Looks funny if all bald. So…..I buzz but only for winter.

I keep my whiskers and the lower back the length your hair is now and the rest short buzzed. If the wind blows the hair/wig away from your head/face it looks natural having this natural hair. As well as if you use a long wig and wear it up you have the natural hair line that makes it look so much more natural. I hated it when i had hair and they cut it short then save the back/neck clean. That looked so unnatural and told them never to "clean up " the back. Thanks for sharing.

I am at the point where I will need a wig to go out. I have put it off because I do not enjoy wearing wigs. Do you wear hats around the house when you don't have a wig on? I don't feel comfortable even around the house without something on my head. Do you have any cool hats beside baseball caps to wear? You are such a help to those of us who have hair loss. Your suggestion are helping me cope. Thanks for having the courage to do this and to share with us.

I enjoy your reviews so much. I just had a little surgery and I glued the wig on. I told my Dr no wig no surgery. He laughed and said no problem you go right ahead and wear it. He was so kind. This video definitely will help those who are on the fence about buzzing/growing back their bio hair. Last Spring I watched some of your videos on buzzing and decided to try it. I’m 75 yrs. old and it was really an emotional experience for me. For years I have had short, pixie-ish hair so I didn’t think it would be emotional to buzz my hair, but it was big time. You have very good suggestions about thinking it through thoroughly. It does grow back but those months waiting can be tough. Thanks so much for caring and sharing. 💕

What r your top 2 or 3 SYNTHETIC wigs you use for putting up in casual, headband, updo’s - NOT for fancy updo’s?
    I’m looking for:
    - Best inexpensive, easy to put up and still look cute in a head band like you or a baseball cap - Wavy is fav but like variety of wavy, curly or straight. (I just have impossible time HANDLING a curly wig- caring for- without making it look like a rat’s nest) but DESPERATELY want 1 for cute updo/headband .
** PURPOSE- OUTSIDE /Hot/ windy DAILY WEAR at Least 4 hrs day. * My personal opinion : my (above) described purpose for such a wig in my personal opinion does NOT fit the situation for a higher-end ($300 +) wig that i scrunch up and mishandle everyday ..you know what I mean??

Thanks, Denise. There are drawbacks and benefits to any options we can choose. My hair is thin, gray and curly. I look in the mirror and sometimes see my dad. Haha.
I keep the sides longer for blending because I only wear gray wigs. When I mow the lawn, I wear a baseball cap and tuck in the hair over my ears.
I hate the thought of someone coming up to my clear glass storm door and catching me without a wig on, so I wear one of my least favorite wigs around the house if I choose to leave the front door open.
When my husband had to spend a lot of time in the hospital I slept in a wig at night. No matter what I did, I had trouble keeping it on my head, even with a wig grip.
For my husband’s last hospital stay, I decided to wear a soft cap to bed instead of that darn wig. I had to get over myself and realize that it was not about me and no one cared but me,
although one very sweet doctor remarked how cute it was that my husband and I were both wearing matching caps.
You are so right about what feels right on your wig journey today may be totally different from what felt right on your wig journey 6 months ago.

I have been going through this for years. Keeping my hair and spending money to have it cut and colored when I cover it up with a wig most of the time is such a waste. Keeping it tucked in the cap is a pain in the butt. My hair grows low too and when I don't buzz I can't wear some of the cute pixie wigs that I love.
When that builds up: I buzz and when I'm wearing a wig I love it!
And then I remember that buzzing requires more frequent maintenance (for me anyway), because of the low hairline in the back and the fact that I'm very pale and my hair isn't that dark but against my skin I get a visible hair line showing beyond the nape - so I have to buzz every week. And some of my wigs don't have great ear tabs or don't have an ear to ear lace front and those can look wiggy without the bio hair edges to blend.
The first time I buzzed I tried leaving the edges in place. It was great for wigs and blending the ear tabs, but it looked bizarre when I was just around the house and I didn't want my family to see me like that.
For the last 18 months I've grown my hair out - kind of - and I can see my scalp all along the top of my head, my crown, and my temples - my head is obviously balding, so wearing my hair longer doesn't look good at all, and it costs money and I wear wigs whenever I'm working or leave the house and it's been a huge money waster - I could have gotten a really nice human hair wig added to my collection if I had just kept buzzing...and I'm going to buzz again.
What I'm saying is you nailed it with this series and I really appreciate your contribution to the community because you are preparing folks for what everyone goes through at some point during hair loss and for those who did it before you made the series: the series validates the things we've all been going through but weren't talking about. Again: thank you so much!

Thanks Denise for your honest and caring videos. I just recently signed up for your videos. Years ago I started losing the top front of my hair and sides due to thyroid problems, autoimmune disease and hereditary. My scalp flares up especially at night with painful itching and burning that drives me crazy. So I never wear my wigs around the house, but if somebody comes to the door I dash to my bathroom and throw one on! Now I know this is off subject but some thing that scares me is if I’m in a car accident and perhaps unconscious and they have to put me in an MRI machine and I have clips in my hair, they may not know I am wearing a wig. What would happen if the metal was in an MRI machine? It’s just something that I think about often and it worries me.

I found that my scalp was too hot with the long hair. My wig is just above my shoulders.
I buzzed my hair. I did a number 7 blade. I thought I would feel sad to see all of my natural hair fall to the floor but I was surprised because I felt relief.
I was going bald for a while.

I might have to consider a pixie-ish do. Not super short, but about 2-3"long. My bio hair in the back is very thick and curly would constantly need trimming cuz it grows fast and thick. My whole head used to be thick and curly. Now it would look like a mullet like someone said. Any thoughts on getting a salon cut sorta pixie-ish , then try maintain the back myself?

I have a question on another topic for anyone of your followers or you… (I’m new to wigs)

I’ve never had to totally restyle my HF wigs. Just used my fingers to get them back into place…even after washing..just like regular synthetic. I believe you only have to totally restyle human hair wigs because they respond just like bio hair.

Hi Kathleen H. I agree with Kathleen below. I wear almost all heat friendly wigs. They dry and completely hold their style. One of the things I love about not wearing human hair wigs! I'm in the hot humid south, and neither the humidity nor rain hurt the style. (Now, sweating from the heat is another matter! But at least the style looks good! 😀)

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  2 года назад

I love all the sisters who jumped into help! Thank you so much for the lovely compliment, Kathleen! The beautiful thing about all synthetic wigs, whether heat friendly or regular, is that they hold the style pretty much no matter what. I am starting to learn more about human hair and while I love it, I still prefer synthetic for curly and wavy styles because they are so effortless (regular synthetic, my preference for straight, bob length and above is heat friendly). Synthetic (heat friendly AND regular) are also the best choice to wear if you are going to be caught in weather. Not only does synthetic hold the style, but the fibers dry so quickly!

My hairline is similar to yours. When its very short, it gets frizzy In all directions, no matter what products I use. My natural color is pepper and salt and i still dye my hair blond. I have bought several wigs that are different colors and styles, which is so much fun!
What do you recommend I do with my sideburns, side and nape hairlines? I'm still deciding if I want to grow my hair out again. I have learned so much from you! Thank you!

The pesky sides and nape can be so challenging! I am dealing with that right now as I grow my hair out and it sticks out EVERYWHERE!!! If you can't blend them in with the wig I would recommend getting a strong hold gel and slicking them back and using a hair drying to make sure they are really stuck. I know that is a PAIN but, unfortunately, unless you want to buzz it all off or grow it out long enough that you can pull it into a pony and hairspray it down, that is one of the only options. I know a lot of women of color use something called the bald cap method which involves using a wig cap and slicking your hair into it to hold it in. I have not tried it but that is another options. Just search Bald Cap Method on RUclips and you will find lots of videos. GOOD LUCK! Hugs!

So I have a dilemma. I'm on medication for the next few months that's going to cause significant temporary hair loss... it's already starting around my forehead and crown. The rest of my hair is still quite long and thick beyond thick. I've been experimenting with wigs for the last few months and I love them BUT it's a pain in the butt to get a wig to sit on it, when I'm already a big head club member. Also, I want to quit dying when it does grow back... so silver hair, yay. Silver roots, Ugh. So do I cut it short for now and buzz it later or just buzz it now and gut it out? I'm finding the idea of a naked head scary, but cutting and re-cutting an unappealingly rooty short cut seems silly. Anyone have any thoughts?

Marcella, I would love to talk to you one on one about this! It is really scary to contemplate but I have LOTS of experience with this AND have heard from lots of wig sisters on this topic... maybe just talking with someone who understands will help? I notice for a while now you've been wearing wig grips. What's the progress with your growth journey? It's February 12th 2023, and no sitings for a while now. Nosy? Yes., but you share so much., just wondering.

Hi, again!! So I haven't buzzed my hair for about 9 or 10 months now. I miss my buzzed hair SO MUCH, but I am growing it to do some content to help women not quite ready to wear wigs since I get so many questions from that group of hair loss sufferers. I want to do some topper content and I also want to do more content with hair fibers. I have also been using a red light therapy hair regrowth helmet and wanted my hair to be long enough to show results (or lack thereof, which so far I'm not really seeing any growth but I did fall off the wagon and stopped using it for about 6 weeks after my Dad passed so I'm just getting back into using it as directed). I have been thinking about doing an update video and your question just told me I need to do that so THANK YOU!! My biggest complaint besides just the hassle of HAVING to wear a wig grip now to keep my hair contained is that I am experiencing a lot more itching under my wigs, something that completely stopped after I buzzed my hair. I haven't figured out the best solution for that, unfortunately, although having clean hair seems to help (I usually go 4ish days between washings)
