SHENANDOAH FLY - [FULL 4K FILM] - Backpack Fly Fishing the Shenandoah Wilderness

- When I was young, I watched a movie called 'A River Runs Through It'. It changed my perspective on not only fly fishing, but the outdoors altogether.
Now 20 years old, 2 of my closest friends and I set out to backpack into Shenandoah National Park to fulfill a life-long dream of learning to fly fish in the backcountry. But for us, it would look considerably different than what was shown on the big screen. Кино
Thank you everyone for watching!! FYI - since the filming of this video thankfully we've learned a ton surrounding keeping the fish in the water longer and are much better about it however I wanted to show all the ups and downs of learnings the process from the beginning - good, bad, and ugly. Appreciate the (hopefully intended to be) constructive comments. God bless and thank you!
Lovely film. Just work on keeping the fish wet! It's cool to keep them in the net (in the water about 1/2 way) to get your caught em shots, then release em quick as possible. Lovely and enjoyable film. Gifted storytelling!
Thank you!!
11:24 Hey , I recognize that guy. It was me 45 years ago. 2 comments:1 wet hands before handling trout; And 2 waders go a long way in cold water. Keep fishing and tight lines!
Yes sir certainly a lot to learn. Appreciate you!
👍👍 awesome film. Living the dream.
Thank you sir!
Very decent work, young man. Stay on that course. God bless.
Thank you sir! Trying my best!
Great meeting you today. Keep up the God work. Hope you guys caught some big ones on your trip. Godspeed
Yes sir fantastic meeting you!! Trying our best to glorify God as best we can. Hope to see you again down the line! Subscribed and looking forward to seeing your videos 👍🏼
Well done guys! You have caught the passion in fly fishing I believe you intended to get through. It is so hard to explain to others. A Scottish comedian Billy Connolly said it best during an interview when asked, "Do you think about new comedy material when you are alone fly fishing"? Billy answered, I don't believe I have a thought in my head when fly fishing other than where to place my fly and make it drift properly. Practice makes perfect so no criticism here. Here's hoping there are many more adventures. Tight Lines!
Love that quote! Sums it up quite perfectly, will have to check it out. Appreciate your watching and the comment, God bless and tight lines!
Great film. I grew up in Shenandoah, fished those same streams dozens of times.
Thank you!
15 years ago I fished those Blue Mountain streams while learning to build bamboo fly rods. Wonderful Brookie country and perfect for a 7’ bamboo 3wt with silk line. Nicer than the soft glass rod one of you seems to be using. Cant go back to carbon fibre once you have gone old school. Have a great journey.
Sounds like a beautiful story. Appreciate your comment!
This place is my backyard fellas. Im right on the river down the road from the park. Pretty cool lookin through the lens of other people. Keep on gettin it.
Beautiful piece of creation over that way - God bless!
Thanks for a nice video showing so many Brook Trout; if I can just encourage y’all to keep those Brookies in the water most of the time. Those beauties are a bit more susceptible to dying if kept out of water too long, Tight Lines!
Awesome! Big Run Drainage, my favorite destination in the park.
Gorgeous place - no doubt about it!
Great video. After having several back and other surgeries I can’t hike any longer. God blessed me early on with experiences that I can still live through memories today. I still fly fish the mountains from base camps. It is almost like home after all of these years. Some of the prettiest spots are in Virginia. I do love Pennsylvania as well. It is great to see young men like yourselves out experiencing life and God’s creation. A little bit of a dream, ambition, and God’s blessings will take you on to greater places in life. Ephesians 2:10, remember he has a plan for you. Thanks again for sharing the video and your trip.
Thank you so much for the kind words and story. I pray all is well with you and yours! Appreciate you! God bless!
That's a great video. I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
Thank you so much and have a great day as well!
very beautiful world and Amazing fish! Good video
Thank you!
Jackson, Congratulations on pursuing your dream! Most people don’t have one in life and it’s sad…I will say to listen to the other comments on this video. Be sure to enjoy keeping those Brookies (all Trout) as wet as possible. I tend to keep them in the net with net in water while I get hook out of mouth…rinse hands well to protect Trout coating, and release…then repeat as many times as the Fishing Gods will let you! God Speed on your adventures and tight lines brother in Christ!😊
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your comment. God bless

Beautiful video. Great work
Thank you!!
Good stuff man! Fellow Virginian and new fly fisherman here and have thought about doing the same thing for a long time and you made it look doable.
Thank you! Go try, it’s very doable you just have to plan your route and do a little research. There’s more information available then you’d think!
@@jackson.c.miller Thanks man! Any recommendations for resources on where to start mapping a route?
@@levimadison8087I used OnX maps which helped me out a TON. A quick google search will bring up good fly fishing spots all over the state - I’d start there and scope out the river on a 3d map online (like what OnX provides) and find a trail that runs with it. You got this! Lemme know if I can help, sorry for the late response!
@@jackson.c.miller thanks brother!
Great video. Couple of pieces of advice: wet your hands before handling the fish. Dry hands remove the mucus from their skin. Also, catching a trout puts a lot of stress on them, so try and return them to the water quickly. Over-handling the fish can kill them.
I hope you guys are still fishing and having success. Be well.
Appreciate the advice! God bless.
@@jackson.c.miller You’re very welcome. I hope your fall fishing is successful. Be well!
Let's go miller!
Looks fun, I sometimes wish I had buddies to fish with. I may have seen you guys up there at one point. No water moccasins up there, that was probably a harmless brown water snake. I see quite a few snakes, never a copperhead and until this year, no rattlesnakes. But the one I saw was big enough to kill a man, and thankfully was in plain view. If you want to catch the really big fish, you have to nymph. Good job!
Thanks for the heads up, sounds like a sight! We’ll study up on it a bit for safety’s sake before next time. Always open to fishing partners as well! God bless
Came to the comments to say just this thing. No water moccasins in that area. All harmless brown water snakes. Great video overall!
Top top film,nice one fella.
Heck yes!!
Dude this is really well done! From the film work to the story. I also love how you bring us into your experience. It's so cool to see how God's creation and a river runs through it shapes your experiences on the water. Gained a new subscriber, can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much!! Truly appreciate you!
This is the year I am going to learn to fly fish in france.
Love it!! Would love to hear how it goes - God bless.
Excellent video! What a great trip! I first saw my Dad flyfishing when I was 4 in 1955. In my 73 years I'm still backpack flyfishing and still learning. Btw, I'm pretty sure God is a dry fly man...just saying.
Thank you so much! Great to hear your story and know it impacted you. He might be! God bless!
Great video yall. In a few years hopefully ill be able to make trips like this of my own. 1 question though, what camera were yall using
Thank you!! Filmed this with a Panasonic lumix s5.
@@jackson.c.miller DAMMMM alr thanks man
Poor fish care throughout. 😢
If you're going to make a fly-fishing movie, please learn to cast. Just watching is painful.
Thanks for watching and God bless!
You were also a beginner once, who cares man. The cinematography alone was amazing.
@@jackson.c.millergreat film! Keep flying fishing and don’t get discouraged by people like him. Just one thing, make sure to wet your hands or keep the brookies wet in the net since they have a slime coat that protects them. If you handle them with dry hands or keep them out of the water for too long they’ll most likely die. God bless
@@dominicnonnenmacher9260 Thank you so much brother! Truly appreciate your kind words. I've learned a ton since filming this video thankfully, and I know most folks intend for their comments to be constructive. Learning all around. Appreciate you!
True, but I wasn't making movies. need to raise the bar.@@dominicnonnenmacher9260
