We use the oven and grill quite a lot... In summer we love the gas BBQ outside, but for winter touring, we often cook a nice meal with a bottle of wine as we may do at home...
Like yourselves we BBQ almost exclusively in summer outside. We recently discovered how to cook roast chicken and roast beef joint in our £100 air fryer, so the dedicated oven and hob are kinda redundant with an air fryer t and inculcation plate.
I’ll be honest. I’m not even in the market for one of these (I watch a lot of camping videos and have looked at trailer tents recently)… so the algorithm decided I should watch this today! And I watched all the way through…. Brilliant product, and credit to yourself… what a brilliant presenter, obviously very talented in marketing and just a great personality. Enjoyed listening to you for half an hour : )
The Eribia is Absolutely stunning a great design. Love the twin bed set up, a must have. I will never again have an East to West bed that’s land-locked. Meaning no opening anywhere other then climbing over your partner. The bed needs to be the most important part in your camper; the quality of sleep is essential when going camping. And that Swift in the small TT is over the top! Our current TT “travel trailer” is North to South bed that allows exit on each side of the bed and a true queen bed. The Euro RV’s have great small space design. With beautiful modern elements. Here in the US we basically slap a big box together and make it look like a Log-Cabin in the woods lol .. Love our 12V Compressor fridge. Appreciate the vid; greetings from from Miami, Florida.
Very well presented, a breath of fresh air. My favourite was the Mancelle, really stylish and airy. Totally agree with all that was said about it. Coming from Aus, l don’t understand the Pom’s love of the oven in a van. It adds weight and is rarely used (l know that the traditionalists will get up on their high horse about that comment). All you need is a couple of burners an air fryer (which let’s face it, it’s an oven) and a good bbq.
Thank you for the kind words. I didn’t realise that ovens are a big deal in AUS caravans too! I once had a rare 1950s Australian made Country Club caravan that was brought over by a British couple in the 1960s who lived in it in AUS for a while. That was strange to see how similar it was to British caravans of the era, but it also had some unusual refinements such as a shower, fly screens and central heating, which were all virtually unheard of in British caravans at the time. On the flip side, it was horrendously heavy compared to British caravans of the time!
I do wonder if now that the airfyer has taken over the imagination of the UK the need for ovens will reduce. I barely use my oven at home these days never mind when on holiday!
Not many uk/euro vans have little bed nooks for mobile phones and charging and even CPAP machines that many people have these days; Also recessing the cook top down a few cms so the bench top can continue across flush to give more space and flips up when in use; a multi use oven/ microwave instead of an oven ; remove curtains as they’re fussy and take up space; dec reliance on power- moving to solar and lithium. I know your vans are much lighter and tow vehicles are less hefty so it would limit weights and inclusions of course. In Australia our caravans are comparatively more expensive from $70000 to $250000+, usually related to the off road chassis and inclusions. Each country does it so differently. Great to compare. Hi from 🇦🇺
12 volt compression fridges are replacing every other fridge in all the campers here in America. They sip electricity, yet they provide excellent refrigeration. You set your temperature and they keep within a few degrees, even in the hotest weather. I won't travel with anything less any more.
Yes I’ve seen this to be true in the rest of the world. Yet again, Britain is lagging behind! The irony is, the traditional three-way fridges generally do not have a great reputation here for reliability, despite our calm climate that allows them to function well. I hope compressor fridges break into the mainstream market here soon.
Really enjoying your channel, my husband and I are going to be fixing up my parents old van they have given me it’s a 1989 Gypsey caravette 6 (South African van) we bought it new so very sentimental… looking at your channel now watching your vintage van rebuild the 1964
Nice summary of all that’s different :) To answer you question, I don’t have an oven or grill so don’t use it, do carry a small multi cooker though ;-) there’s an infill cushion for the hand holding bed btw, for those who also prefer a bit of… footsie! That’s my favourite Eriba Touring interior colour choice too, though not a fan of the family practicality of the new 600 series…
I think this full oven malarkey is a recent Eriba phenomenon, I’ve not seen them fitted before. Great news that there’s an infill on the bed too 😂 I wish they’d advertise these features better at the show 🙄
@@NotAnotherWhiteBox yep new option for 24 model year, which started way back some time in 23, probably July ;-) and honestly if they advertised the entire options list it would be like sitting down to read a novel at the show, and still not always make sense with the various multi option combos available. Whether having so many (paid extra of course) options is good or bad probably depends very much on whether a glass half full, or half empty person is buying ;-)
We use our grill & oven on almost every trip. We have a Weber gas BBQ also. I love cooking & would not want to be limited without the oven & grill. Saying that, I have no desire for a microwave or (god forbid) an air fryer.
Loved the vid, I’m looking to move from camping to vanning and cannot work out why they need a toilet/shower/kitchen… think I need to buy a European caravan, your French one being top of the list 😂
I was looking at a teardrop caravan and proposed using a pop top to give the option of more head height and bring the kitchen inside but no one thought it was a good idea. People want a cheaper option to a Campervan and if GoPod could put a larger pop top and a proper loo - it could be a real go.
We have the Eriba 530. Looking at this 642, I agree with you re the need for an Oven and Grill. We only have a 2 burner hob and that is plentiful for camping. The pop up roof, I noticed the struts, which wouldn't last a year before breaking, however the pop up roof with a bed is a great idea. Eriba's do have quality issues, like bathroom doors flying off their hinges, tables coming loose, as they have self tappers into low density laminate covered chip board, and kitchen drawers flying out whilst travelling. The build quality is no better than a British Swift caravan. The Eriba is easy to tow though, and is not much wider than a car, which has its advantages in narrow lanes etc.
I wish many of these were available in the USA. Eriba did have a small presence here many years ago, my parents owned a puck towed by a white VW. So many of these would make sense for many of the cars and crossovers sold which cannot tow over 5000 Lbs. Many of these vehicles have a 3500 or 2000 Lb. limit with brakes to tow.
We use our hob (3 x gas + 1 x electric quite a bit along with our microwave & air fryer, & cooking plates. We like the grill but hardly touched the oven. Of course bbq outside on the firepit..
4:48. Love the induction cooktop, air fryer, microwave oven. Gas is inconvenient, unhealthy and expensive. Induction is 2x faster to cook vs gas and no emissions inside the camper!!
It will be more interesting when you showing prices, specially last cavan. Plz don't forgot to mentioned prices per carvan, and engery supplier like electricity and water container, how much ltr available?
It is quite shocking to me how antiquated and old fashioned US trailers are on the whole. Even more worrying is how the Americans are buying up European brands at the moment and they’re experiencing a noticeable drop in quality as purse strings get tightened! Capitalism at its finest 😂 Leave us European caravanners alone - we’ve been building caravans for longer than the Americans 😂 Our smaller cars over here have lead to some real innovation when it comes to caravan design to keep weight to a minimum and make them easier to tow.
Discovery D4 lovely caravan. Unfortunately ours was damp at first service from what could only have been a manufacturing fault, took months to not get sorted and Bailey were extremely awkward to deal with (not accepting AWS reports) and the whole thing turned into an utter nightmare. The dealer bought it back at a huge loss to us, so one or two nights camping cost several thousand pounds in depreciation and report costs. Top tip, buy from your nearest dealer as travelling to get a defective van is a nightmare. Local dealer refused to do a warranty repair, which totally sucked. Great reviews and we might get another caravan in the future but defo not from Bailey. 😞

I really like the La Mancelle Liberty. The lounge area is great! I didn’t see any tvs though, do they come with tv hookups? I would have liked to have seen what the bathroom looked like, you didn’t show it. I really liked all of the other little campers too, I just liked this one the most!😊

I enjoyed the video and the variety of vans featured. I've been searching for a lightweight van suitable for towing with my EV, with a maximum total weight of 1000kg or less. Have you considered the Beachy caravan from Hobby for review? It was unveiled at the November 2023 NEC show, though it's been available in Europe for a few years. It doesn't have a cooker, which aligns with my preference and your views for alternative cooking methods. As an example: I prefer the Ninja Speedi for quicker, easier one-pot meals. Again a van offering something a little different. Do you have plans to review this lightweight, all-electric van?
Thanks for your lovely comment. I did take a look at the Hobby Beachy as part of my NEC Caravan and Motorhome Show tour last October. It was the first caravan I looked at. You can see the video here: ruclips.net/video/zdqNaE_zsGQ/видео.htmlsi=MiHHxxnjvi4z6mc1
Nice exploration of the ideas behind the manufacturing and use. A little more detail would help about what it is like to live in or move through the caravan. Stop saying "again". Nice to see your live-in tests with a partner.
I just found your channel. I live in America and one thing I notice about "trailers" here and caravans in Europe is the size of the tow vehicle. Is there a diffrence in the caravan design and weight that allows for smakker tow vehicles?
I’m not sure to be honest - obviously this design is popular with campervans and they must manage. I expect when it’s closed up and sealed, it’s not a problem.
I don’t think we ever will. It’s too big, heavy and expensive for the European market. That said, the designer of it made contact with me about doing an interview at some point, so perhaps I’ll catch up with him and delve into the design further. It does look amazing.
5 - Eriba Touring: I don't like get up & down stairs specially on the night (f.i. when someone need to go to the bath) 4- Swift Basecamp: ¿Bags for store?. ¿Really? 3 - Knaus Yaseo : No phisical space to cooking area or how they do it? 2 - Bailey Discovery: They should have expanded the bathroom a bit more, but is not bad. 1- La Mancelle Liberty: Ahm... I don't know, nature no need too many luxuries.
The Knaus caravan felt really dark and claustrophobic. Ironically once you lower the bed you have a big window! This seems odd as its only usable once you are going to bed. That has to be poor design.
again we always use the grill and gas oven. solar on our setup is not an option as we do not have sdpave for the charging system ,and as far as lithuim batteries go fo a lot of people the cost is simply un affordable. intrerestng concepts on some of the vans. many thanks for your production
All those featured have their benefits and equally their failings. As with every caravan, motorhome and even a house, all will come with a compromise. One of the biggest takeaways from this is really how the caravan services are powered. The traditional three way fridges are absolutely useless in hot summers. I'm talking about nigh on 40C in the daytime and above 30C at night summers. A compressor fridge makes so much more sense. I like the drawer type compressor fridges that the French spec La Mancelle and the Trigano Caravelair Artica models have. I would also like to see manufacturers offer a choice between the gas powered heater/boiler and their diesel powered alternatives. Yes, they are available and in my market, the large bottled gas is a pain in the you know where to procure and also requires taking a certification test. In my market, we also convert the hob to be used with the cassette gas canisters (and three way fridges) that are sold EVERYWHERE. However, the best thing about all of these caravans is the lack of a daft protruding chest of drawers at the front of the trailers. It's not the chest of drawers themselves that are daft, but the way they protrude. The only manufacturer to get this right is Coachman. They have the chest of drawers embedded into the front and two lockers on either side. In summary, I think that manufacturers need to adopt a more flexible approach and going to the extreme of all electric is not necessarily the best way forward. In my neck of the woods, these vehicles are also shelters and temporary homes in the event of a natural disaster. All electric, or more poignantly, only electric, isn't the best option - even with an EV to power it. I will state however, there is no such thing as a perfect caravan and certainly not one that is fully natural disaster prepared, but they do beat sharing a gymnasium or classroom with lots of other people, surrounded only with temporary cardboard for privacy.
I think the British industry has a long way to catch up with fridge technology. The old Electrolux fridges of the 1980s and 1990s were pretty bulletproof so long as you kept them clean/serviced. Then Thetford got in on the act and so did Dometic and decided that fridges needed a PCB board in them, which is where all the trouble started. The technology in how the fridge worked remained unchanged since the 1960s, just how it was controlled was now electronic. I’ve seen first hand how beneficial a compressor fridge is in comparison. The drawer fridge is amazing! Though sadly 240v only, hence why it’s not fitted in the Mancelle in the UK. The downside is that the technology for now is very expensive. It would add around £2000 to the price of the caravan, which is an issue in our climate in the UK at the moment where new sales are faltering due to rapid inflation. The Coachman design of the front shelf and incorporated drawers is also a feature of the new Swift Challenger and Elegance models. I first saw it on ABI Award caravans in the 1980s, it’s a brilliant idea, but obviously costs more to produce. The front shelf is SO useful!
When it comes to interior design the now old Adria Astella 704 HP is still the King of them all ! . I am new to this channel and loves to see the variety, but considering the channels name, I find most of the caravans are very traditional and boring.
I think the Gypsy community are very lucky being able to live in them all year round, I have a disability and live in a flat I would love to be able to live in one of those touring caravans all year but all the caravan parks that are 12 months will only allow you to stay for about six weeks at the most, I wish the government would change the law..
I know, right? I thought this too. Apparently their computer wind tunnel says it’s 14% more efficient than a “normal” design, but they didn’t elaborate on that.
We use the oven and grill quite a lot as well in our caravan. As most of the time we are off grid. Standard Basecamp caravans are so much overpriced for what you can get in a conventional caravan. Manufacturers should think more going forward, the less use of gas. and more use of solar panels. Fridges of the compressor type, as if the summers are going to be hotter, as 3way fridges are not up to the job when temps go 25C & above. I have a Swift caravan 2021 model. Build quality is very poor. The solar charge control they fitted to our caravan was a piece of junk, which has had to be replaced, as it wasn't keeping the battery charged, now have a Victron MPPT controller which does the job. I hope Swift have learned lessons, and now use quality solar equipment if they are going down the Eco-Solar route.
Yes, there’s lots of options for the La Mancelle range. This is the smaller model in the Plaisance range. Check out the website here: marquisleisure.co.uk/nawb
In Australia its the other end to what you have just showed! Regular weight of loaded caravan is 3 .0- 3.5 ton this brand is popular at the moment. ruclips.net/video/dc30wduINvE/видео.html
Im planing to replace gas with electric, heating with diesel heater. Few panels and batterys and you are golden, no pain in getting gas bottles with different standards in different countries.
Who in their right mind would pay the money they now ask for a caravan There are a number of caravan distributors going out of business every week I have a caravan but I would never pay the money they now ask
I love these caravans. They are well designed and lightweight. I wish we had more of these available in America.

in the states we're starting to see convection microwaves to solve for the oven, though with that you need to have the power to run them.

I love that last van - but I think I missed the shower room?
5 - Eriba Touring: I don't like get up & down stairs specially on the night (f.i. when someone need to go to the bath)
4- Swift Basecamp: ¿Bags for store?.
First vid I have come across and aside from the amazing content, super disappointed you don't go by camervan
Can anyone make a waterproof caravan I don’t think so. Every caravan I have owned has had water ingress issues. 😢
I’m want one 😂 i think they are amazing
Our downstairs toilet is bigger than most of these, although ca t tow the house, but 😢
again we always use the grill and gas oven. solar on our setup is not an option as we do not have sdpave for the charging system ,and as far as lithuim batteries go fo a lot of people the cost is simply un affordable. intrerestng concepts on some of the vans. many thanks for your production
Prices of each?
When it comes to interior design the now old Adria Astella 704 HP is still the King of them all ! . I am new to this channel and loves to see the variety, but considering the channels name, I find most of the caravans are very traditional and boring.
Cute
I think the Gypsy community are very lucky being able to live in them all year round, I have a disability and live in a flat I would love to be able to live in one of those touring caravans all year but all the caravan parks that are 12 months will only allow you to stay for about six weeks at the most, I wish the government would change the law..
Fancy a swap then? 😂
The Knaus is supposed to be looking forward towards towing with an EV, yet is the least aerodynamic of the lot.
I know, right? I thought this too. Apparently their computer wind tunnel says it’s 14% more efficient than a “normal” design, but they didn’t elaborate on that.
Where’s the bathroom on that last one?!!
I’d rather have a fifth wheel. More space, more comfort, more of everything really. Not much more money than a top of the range caravan either.
Electric yes please. I can charge it from my car as it too is electric
Not for me, if that is what is coming I'm keeping my old Ranger and diesel VW.
Reducing the weight of the caravan, adding snall doors on each side, & loading a heaving electric bike or 2. Not gaining much in my view!
The wind has less directions than you
Of course you need an oven.
I like the French one do they make a longer one , interesting tho do you recon the British built ones ar poor quality made like their cars 🤔
Yes, there’s lots of options for the La Mancelle range. This is the smaller model in the Plaisance range. Check out the website here: marquisleisure.co.uk/nawb
All of those were naff, even the Eriba, and I normally like those.
Bit of a vague comment. We don’t mind criticism around here so long as it’s constructive
In Australia its the other end to what you have just showed! Regular weight of loaded caravan is 3 .0- 3.5 ton this brand is popular at the moment. ruclips.net/video/dc30wduINvE/видео.html
looks like a horse box
If you cant get tye dit and dinish rught fir a show, thsn you have to question a companies ability
Not sure why he didn’t show everything from each of these product…what a shame..the presentation an be much better and clear..
…or maybe you need to pay more attention to the video and follow the links to the more in-depth reviews of each caravan 😘
I had a panic attack watching this, these things and claustrophobia do NOT work 😢
there are no such words as conventionality or functionality. There is convention and function. The suffix is redundant.
Muppet!!!
Nasty eyelet curtains and pole for a partition no thanks!!
All electric caravan? No thanks.
no one asks how these solar caravans will be heated ?
Site electric is too expensive that's why people cook on gas.
Unfortunately Gas, Gas bottles are gradually being fazed out. Going to have to look at alternatives means along with solar power.
Im planing to replace gas with electric, heating with diesel heater. Few panels and batterys and you are golden, no pain in getting gas bottles with different standards in different countries.
Agree
Speak for yourself. I always use my oven and grill.
At the same time…?
This guy is nuts ev caravan no thanks.and put a bike full of mud inside
Sorry Cameron, I wouldn’t consider your picks. 🤮
British homosexual
I bet that's ccc cold in the winter snow etc in that bed
Oh he's cary on camping alright 😂😂😂😂 electric vehicles 😂😂😂😂😂
18k to much look like 20k to me
Would be nice to know the size of the bed. 🫣😉
Who in their right mind would pay the money they now ask for a caravan
There are a number of caravan distributors going out of business every week
I have a caravan but I would never pay the money they now ask
