As always Sam, great video - SOOOOOOOOOO good to see you driving an MX-5 (the original one as well). I'm also glad that you didn't turn your nose up because it hasn't got a lot of power, but thankfully you fully embraced what this car has to offer. Yes, they are far from the most powerful car going, and people see them as hairdresser's cars, but when you actually experience one, you'll learn none of that really matters. I've owned 2 so far, and my current one is an import (Eunos Roadster). I've been toying about with the idea to turbo it but a part of me cannot bring myself to do it, as I've really fallen in love with the NA power delivery. Yes, the car is not fast, but as long as you rev it hard you shouldn't find it slow either. If you can Sam, get your hands on the new MX-5 at some point - you'll probably end up wanting to buy one!
The original MX-5 is an absolute blast. My dad has one and he's supercharged it. It's so raw, no electronic assistance at all, just the driver. Super fun!
I know a lot of people who would love an unmolested first generation mx5. Hold on to that Mazda, someday you will be happy you did. There is something to say for the older cars that aren't all computer controlled. The adventures and memories will be priceless.
Oh #DriveTheWorld is so good! Really loved the slightly differerent, likeable, down to earth content of today. It's what makes STG stand out. What a pleasure being able to witness this journey
Doing a video about a 5000£ little sports car will obviously kinda "fail" on youtube, people want to see hypercars...etc. But I'm glad you've filmed this tiny little thing ! They're so much fun ! I love those MX5 and the owners seem to be very nice people ! Makes me want to drive one again asap !
Hello! I've lived there for more than 20 years, I missed so much. I enjoyed the Mallorca roads in a Peugeot 205 Rally with just 103 bhp. I suggest you to go to "La Calobra". ATB.
I drove up the Cap de formentor road a few years ago, it was terrifying and amazing at the same time. Perfectly cambered twisty mountain roads with cyclists and coaches coming around blind corners at you, not to mention the sheer drops. Didn't die though, so 10/10
Should’ve tried a 6-speed NB with 140hp instead. I bought mine for 5 grand with 60K km 5 years ago...like new...and it’s by far the best and most fun car I’ve ever had. Just tried the ND and my car feels better :) And it’s dead cheap to insure as well because only women drive it. It’s cheaper than a 70 hp Polo 😂
Sorry to hear your comment on the only so little views lately. It really isn’t because of the quality as it is just outstanding really. It is just too often. Your viewers and me too just don’t have the time to go check out a video of this length on a near daily basis. That’s all.. keep it up!
MX5 great little cars, have owned two of them and the only cars in 40 years of driving that have NEVER cost me money to use, never broken down and I always managed to sell them for a profit......
I’ve got a 997 Carrera S and a 2017 MX-5; the MX-5 is the most fun daily driver I could think of and then still have back roads capability while returning 30+mpg. The Carrera S is drastically higher performing, but the MX-5 is more fun because I can drive 10/10ths everywhere I go and stay out of trouble.
Even Paul Wallace could drift an MX5 in the wet lol. Weigh nothing, and rear wheel drive. Roundabouts always great fun. Loved my MK1 Eunos Roadster (Japanese mx5 import for those who didn't know)
@@Patrick94GSR Thanks for reiterating the fact that most, not all, know that Eunos = MX5 (that's what the cool kids know it as) Good thing I mentioned it for those that didn't know then, they're not wondering anymore. I feel good about myself now, thanks.
Mos def. You should’ve honestly done drive the world on 3-4 miata’s and it could’ve saved you all the shipping fees and costed you much lesser than the Porsche. Which we haven’t seen in ages btw!
It was called the Miata in North America, but it still had the MX5 nomenclature. Differences per regions of the world was based on safety and emissions standards in different markets also marketing packages. It made the annual ten best cars in Car and Driver every year.
Absolutely love this series! Mallorca's roads are great. Driven both of those roads from that Henry Catchpole video and I'd say the one from Pollenca to Sa Calobra (the second road) is better. Both are awesome though!
Really not a popular view but I have a 1.8i NB (mk2) and prefer to the NA. They are the perfect weekend car and for the money, really achievable sports car.
That Henry Catchpole EVO video give me always goosebumbs and I have watched it numerous times! I have been once in Formentor lighthouse and the road is truly amazing! Sadly our car was WW Transporter :(
I had, yes had wish I hadn’t sold it, a 1991 first gen MX-5, loved it. It was my university car. I had ordered a blue but the wait got too long and ended up with a white one, better option I believe. I did a few mods to it, Rod Millen engine upgrades, wheels... kept all the stock parts though. Anyway was a great car, would be nice to still have, as well as the E30 M3 Evo II that I traded in for a Range Rover - silly me.
I've got an mx-5 that's as good as stock. You can drive it if your ever in the neighbourhood of Amsterdam. It isn't in perfect condition but drives really good.
Ughh dang I wish I had the cash to get a NB Miata preferably with 6 speed gearbox. I love the NB styling, a bit more modern than the NA, and the curved rear edges of the doors pay homage to the legendary FD RX7.
Excellent as ever bravo a real car for a change which was based on the 60s &70s British sports cars spitfires & mg s just more reliable grazie grazie Mille ciao ciao
Car enthusiasts (myself included) complain we don't have cars like the original MX-5 anymore but the reality is not enough people buy them. If we did they'd still be around. Companies don't just ignore their market and say "fuck off, we're making supercars now".
Na prices can be really crazy (at least here in italy) different stories for NB and NC ( especially the facelift models)....you can find good examples for a decent prices... ND of course are expensive, but because they're still relatively new cars, but you can find a lot of second hand 160hp models, for sales, due to the launch of the 184 hp version
0:42 when you think "yoo that's like a typical shot from Casey", and then he starts talking about him. lol and btw I really love Miatas. #MisfittedCrew
You need to get into the latest MX-5 Sam, it's returned to being small - as short as the Mk1 - and is super light, delicate and handles so so well. The new one has 181hp and is an absolute peach - I agree that on most roads you can't have much more fun, legally, in the UK. Get yourself in a new one chap!

Way to much time on your hands
@@I_am_Jesus_though Trying spending a day in my shoes and then draw the same conclusion 😂
You should get one as your classic!
so nice from you to drive this car and present this guy and his car in your blog. It is not always about multimillion dollar cars, nice done
I bought an 1990 mx-5 this weekend, and it is superb, loving it!
I think your girlfriend should start doing car reviews, that last section was funny.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get lent a car again
Certainly was.
"uneventful" ahah
She nailed it...any BMW for that matter is exactly what she said :D
I absolutely love these NA miatas. I drove one from Boston to Los Angeles and it was just so capable and fun in the Rocky Mountains and Angeles Forest
The original MX-5 is an absolute blast. My dad has one and he's supercharged it. It's so raw, no electronic assistance at all, just the driver. Super fun!
Didn't expect to see gym footage at the beginning. Good job Sam!
Honestly the MX5 is the best sports car ever made
And most reliable as well.
I know a lot of people who would love an unmolested first generation mx5. Hold on to that Mazda, someday you will be happy you did. There is something to say for the older cars that aren't all computer controlled. The adventures and memories will be priceless.

Yes Sam, you're *finally* doing a Mazda MX-5! I look forward to watching this when I get home later!
PLEASE list your music used in video’s some of the tunes are amazing
Julius Klaassen
Was going on to ask the same request - please do Sam. Cheers
I tried to shazam so many but it never worked
wouldn't be holding my breath for that to happen guys ... it's Sam's way of circumnavigating the dreaded audio infringement youtube messages.
Honestly I don't know why he is hiding it from us, the more exposure to the artists!
Yes!! Shazam never works with these tunes and most of the tunes are incredible!
Great video Sam! Love this series!
Been thrashing a rental panda around Mallorca earlier this year, enjoy some good roads, especially around the west

As an Mx5 Euro’s NA owner, yes, best smiles per mile, no other car brings as much pleasure.

I love when you started the BMW, your girlfriend said "Uneventful" haha classic. My wife is exactly the same. Looking forward to tomorrow's vid.
Nice video.
And i can understand the excitement for the BMW 850.
BMW has finally made a beautiful car again.
Keep up the good work.
The 6 series gran coupe is awesomely beautiful
needless to say this is the best car channel lately. bravo!
*Classic mini wants to know your location*
I bought a mk2 mx5 for my mum £350 job done, no problems with it 100k miles full service history. I almost stole that thing.
I just bought a 2006 MX-5 and it has 200whp and I freaking love it. Love it
I have a 92 and I'm really thinking of driving it year round, even if we have really crappy winters here.
45 videos in 90 days!! Crazy man keep it up 👌👌
Not including the 16 members videos ;)

Glad to see you enjoying a little MX5! That one honestly looks like a collectible. The NAs truly are a classic.
I might be wrong, but is that MX5 on Michelin CrossClimates? And interesting tyre choice for the region, and might be why it feels a touch floaty.
Tyre Reviews got to be better than the OE tyre from 1989?
You with your eagle eyes
@@runrabbitrunracing you are correct, however it's not the tyre I'd pick for a nimble sports car in an area that never sees snow!

Talking 2-3k for a decent one! May be a little biased but they really are brilliant little cars
Even Paul Wallace could drift an MX5 in the wet lol. Weigh nothing, and rear wheel drive. Roundabouts always great fun. Loved my MK1 Eunos Roadster (Japanese mx5 import for those who didn't know)
Keith Fitzgerald I’m sure most of us 80’s and 90’s kids know that Eunos = Miata from playing Gran Turismo.
@@Patrick94GSR Thanks for reiterating the fact that most, not all, know that Eunos = MX5 (that's what the cool kids know it as) Good thing I mentioned it for those that didn't know then, they're not wondering anymore. I feel good about myself now, thanks.

It was a Mazda MX 5 only crazy American's say Miata.
Probably because Mazda called it the Miata in North America?
Miata and mx5 have a lot of differences in terms of styling and options
or those crazy japanese calling it Eunos Roadster then..
It was called the Miata in North America, but it still had the MX5 nomenclature. Differences per regions of the world was based on safety and emissions standards in different markets also marketing packages. It made the annual ten best cars in Car and Driver every year.

I agree. The 140hp NB 6speed is the best MX-5 they ever made.
great video as always !!

Actually screw it, I'm going to watch it now!
Come on Sam you're a man of class and distinction and you eat dinner with your hat on.
Great to see such a clean MX-5 :)
I hope you are going to hit the road to Sa Calobra... Its soo amazing. Enjoy the island, truely amazing place
You should have asked to borrow the MX5, the BMW is going to feel huge on those roads. Can not wait for the video 👍
Those are big boy weight my man💪🏼.

These montages are amazing.

Such a cool place. You’ll love it
The major thing we learned from today´s video:

Ughh dang I wish I had the cash to get a NB Miata preferably with 6 speed gearbox. I love the NB styling, a bit more modern than the NA, and the curved rear edges of the doors pay homage to the legendary FD RX7.

Driving an Mx5 on the limit is quite special.
if you want a basic modern sports car the gt86 or brz is a good option
Why wouldn't you get a miata though? A little more solid in the brz?

Did you leave your car park ticket next to your mobile? Always find this with my train ticket, totally fubar’s it😎
STG SOL JWW MX5 challenge?

Why don't you buy a Miata? I mean it's so cheap the value is not going down and it seemed to me that you loved it!
