I love watching your vids and half the entertainment comes with the comments, there's always someone who's jealous and has to try and tell you how to run your machine. As always though you prove them wrong. Your a great operator and know your machine inside and out. Great videos man, love watching them.
Ha nice.. was just suprised to see you wearin that, i did a double take cause thats wear i work in PA and i saw that ur all the way up in alberta. Anyhow nice machine, would love to run one.. 345me's the biggest ive operated and the biggest we have now, used to have a a couple 65's 75's and a 85 but with the economy we had to get rid of em. Costs a shit load to move it as much as we had to too. Hope it comes back real strong cause then we might get some of em back and ill get a shot at one.

The stick actually stays on, unpinning the cylinder to allow that little bit more "bend" is way faster than having to bring a crane in to take the stick off every time. Still goes on 2 trucks as the counterweight has to come off.
I'm a wanna-be. Retired desk jockey that never got over the Tonka Toys. Last week, an old friend in the excavating business called to say he needed an operator, would I like to give it a try. I did - ran an excavator and wheel loader. What I've learned - no video, cause every body probably can do it better than me!
Yes that is correct, the edge was a little high and when I spun to the truck my counterweight would have rubbed. I pulled the dirt down against my track so I could swing without losing any paint (pet peeve of mine). I have one uploading right now!
When we float the machine it's too high. You can either take the bucket off (pain in the ass cause the linkage flops around and you can break it if you set the boom on it) or pull the stick cylinder pin. The cable goes to the small bit welded halfway down the stick and holds it up so you can move around without it flopping all over the place.
Interesting story. You remind me of the "walk-ons" in college sports. You know... the guys who didn't get the BIG scholarships but came on the team via the backdoor. Put up a video. I'll make the you tube community to swear not to criticize it :)
your a good operator.. ill be doing this soon one of these days, any tops for a novice headin out to the mines to work much the same as you are? / safety pointers?
@HomebrewCigarsmoker The engineers design where the channel for the pipe zone goes, we dig it out. Unless you have a way to float trucks either down a 150 ft 1:1 slope or over the vertical edge for the dividing berm on the right you'd have to do it the same way. Sure a truck or two may be not exactly where I'd like but you have to leave room to scratch at the hardpan and with no radios its faster to just load them where they stop then try to get them moved.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Do what I do and set it up at break. There's no box sometimes things just have to get done with the equipment you have. This was all set up to be dozed, no dozer available so away we go playing front shovel and working in corners. I can still get 85% or better production loading it into trucks as I go rather then have the dozer work for two days at a cost to push it out so we can "drive by" load it.
@chieftanzzz Thanks in that pitrun I had to do that at least once a day so I was getting pretty good at it. Trick is picking the right time to do it otherwise the truckers get all confused and think you want something haha.
Yup, good operating, people just don't get how to load trucks, noth'in pisses me off more than a dirty counter weight. You are nice and level, full buckets and short swings....
@henry15forever Ever run the big Cat hoes? Cat doesn't build a lot of swing speed into them especially the 385. Especially when you're swinging a big bucket on a long or GP stick most people will pull the stick in and whip it out at the truck. It will help increase swing speed by recycling some oil into the swing system and bringing the weight in closer to the machine makes it more stable and means you're swinging 20k lbs of dirt 10ft from center instead of 30ft from center.
@markdmy Yeah in quick you lose power which makes it slower with a large bucket like that. It's alright if you're using a cleanup to smooth things of or something but not the greatest for heavy digging.
@gimpy80 Nothing really it's just a trim level (started painting the cylinders/hood black and has the orange "powerstripe" bar beside the model number).
@LordEthan2 Look before you swing, use your mirrors and always do your walkaround before you get in. As far as operating, get good before you try to be fast. You have to be smooth on the machine before you are going to be quick on it. Anyone can fling the joysticks this way and that but only someone who knows how the machine moves can be quick and smooth.
@constructionfan Not this one but if you add a quick attach or a longer bucket (say trenching) you probably could. Best not to find out anyways! There's no reason you should be that close anyways.
@PaTrIcKat1995 Mining you will always be doing the same thing, every day. Plus most mines are in the middle of no where so you end up either travelling a lot, or doing camp work so you won't see your family much. Construction you do this that and everything between so it changes. You can end up out of town but you're usually home every night for the most part. Mines are not dependant on the weather but construction is. Plus mines you would get paid more.
@redheadedduckhunter Because I was in the way while I was climbing up. As a safety precaution they don't back in unless spotted or I have instructed them to load side by side.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Please do. Let me know if you have trouble getting equipment Diggin' Ditchin' n' Bitching Productions owns a couple complete rigs.
You misunderstood my comment about the drive by, and using the dozer to set it up. I know you actually did this about five years ago and I would be impressed if you even remember the circumstances. However what I was referring to was not pushing the material out rather simply use that dozer IF POSSIBLE to cut a bench next to you (this would elevate the trucks and put them in a drive by pattern) and continue to load and manage your material from where your at. Dont get me wrong I know Im not there, cant see it all and respect your skill, just jaw jacking really.
I do remember. There are a couple reasons. The pitrun didn't go very far back so by the time a dozer got up and leveled out the clay on the right enough to safely drive the trucks beside me I would already be finished loading. Loading them on the clay bench would also be slower (boom up time as they would now be at the same level as the excavator) so the cycle time would be similar to waiting for the truck to back in. The other reason is I had to sit in the middle of the pitrun cut to reach both sides. If I sat over by the clay to reach the trucks I wouldn't be able to reach the left side.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker do you really see any way to do a drive by haul pattern at this site? -There isn't one. And his company DOES implement them, look at some of the other vids.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Because we're in a corner. I keep telling you that you don't know all the facts and I've already assessed all the possible ways of doing the job before I start loading. We are building a deep cell for a landfill so we can't just cut roads where ever we want, certain dirt has to be removed for structures and other material is left to be reused around pipe etc. If you keep insisting on making yourself look like an ass with your uninformed comments Ill keep calling you on it.
vantagetes ..some people just don't understand what it takes to always position yourself just right to run the perfect cut. Sometimes you just have to do what you can.
do you like your job or not i was just wondering if i should get a mining job like that or not im still in high school and should i get a summer job excavating? my boss now says that i am a natural at running a cat 416c back hoe but should i go one step further?

As the jammed stone was pushed out between the prongs on the circuit was still the crowning glory. Top Video wants to see more! ;-)))
Love how you popped out that rock at the end, great skill :D
you are skilled operator..you did it smoothly.. im an tx operator too. im from philippines.. nice job....
man I get almost jealous when I watch your videos....I'm only an amateur operator if that..Keep up the god vids....love the 385's !
hi, i really enjoy your videos, i like machinery although i've never operated any. Thanks for doing the videos, be Safe
That's a perfect excavator and truck match right there!
Another cool video man, I wish I had your job.
I love that little tooth pick right at the end
Great vids! keep em comin. You live my dream!
Ha nice.. was just suprised to see you wearin that, i did a double take cause thats wear i work in PA and i saw that ur all the way up in alberta. yoo man i like how u ended that video by taking that rock out coz that would really piss me of for some reason haha
Haha nice.. was just suprised to see you wearin that, i did a double take cause thats wear i work in PA and i saw that ur all the way up in alberta. In your vids it looks like you're in a giant playground with machines.
Damn, u get some wicked angles on that thing. I guess you use the bucket for stability?
The stick actually stays on, unpinning the cylinder to allow that little bit more "bend" is way faster than having to bring a crane in to take the stick off every time. Still goes on 2 trucks as the counterweight has to come off.

Best job in the world !

Yeah the trick is to always have yourself in a position that you can catch yourself with the bucket.

Yeesh! What type of dirt are you guys working in. We don’t have anything like that down in Minnesota.
Gavin Wurm Pitrun? It’s (river) gravel before it’s run through the crusher.
Interesting story.
You remind me of the "walk-ons" in college sports.
You know... the guys who didn't get the BIG scholarships but came on the team via the backdoor.
Put up a video.

great video man,
Kind of a tight bench you got yourself propped up on there huh?
your a good operator.. ill be doing this soon one of these days, any tops for a novice headin out to the mines to work much the same as you are? / safety pointers?

vantagetes ..the truth
very nice Videos. I like it

Nice!! You got a fair bit more to move there yet??
her mıs makınasını kullanıyorsunuz bravo hayranım sıze Masallah
@blakesbitch Only their trucks. I love both running and loading them!
awesome vid! how much longer is the stick on the new 385 than the old one?
nice video! where are you from?
Yup, good operating, people just don't get how to load trucks, noth'in pisses me off more than a dirty counter weight. You are nice and level, full buckets and short swings....
cool i live near bass lake in california and they are always working ion the dam they had some machines like this

Big scoops of material being loaded
@markdmy Yeah in quick you lose power which makes it slower with a large bucket like that. It's alright if you're using a cleanup to smooth things of or something but not the greatest for heavy digging.
Haha just wait until I upload the one from today Popcorn! I had about 6" of clearance when I swung the counterweight around.
Why were tge trucks far away from your bench before they backed in?
@airsoftsniper06 It was? Look again there is dirt up to the top of the greedy boards on both sides.
How many cubic yards/meters does that bucket hold?
P.S. I love your vids
@gimpy80 Nothing really it's just a trim level (started painting the cylinders/hood black and has the orange "powerstripe" bar beside the model number).

how comes the first truck was half loaded and pulled awa from the bench?
@constructionfan Not this one but if you add a quick attach or a longer bucket (say trenching) you probably could. Best not to find out anyways! There's no reason you should be that close anyways.
btw how safe are the bobcats (and the volvo equivalents if you've been in any) if you were to drop, or land on the side or your head.
@PaTrIcKat1995 Mining you will always be doing the same thing, every day. Around 3600 I think, I will try to remember to look tomorrow. That number is a pure guess haha.
@redheadedduckhunter Because I was in the way while I was climbing up. As a safety precaution they don't back in unless spotted or I have instructed them to load side by side.
Good cat machine
Guess it gets pretty shaky in there huh?
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Please do. Let me know if you have trouble getting equipment Diggin' Ditchin' n' Bitching Productions owns a couple complete rigs.
Any cool videos or pictures to share?
@Mitroglou Have never gotten the pleasure of running a Liebherr yet so I cannot fairly say.
Nah we'll be done by the end of the week.

i want to run one of these. thats alot of metal moving around to the right of you lol

is this a newer excavator
dude you got a haircut!
@huggysthejellyfish Thx mate.
How many tons were loaded??
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Then post up a video of you doing it the most excellent way since you are quite superior to what we do.
HA!!! Wishful thinking,man.
These vids are like BLOOD IN THE WATER for those who LOVE to criticize.
@MattijsDeSmedt I threw a bucket or two in from ground level before I climbed up, but that doesn't explain the pull away part of his comment.
@HomebrewCigarsmoker Because we're in a corner. I keep telling you that you don't know all the facts and I've already assessed all the possible ways of doing the job before I start loading. how many yards is that bucket
Hell yeah thats rough on your swing drive.
@fishingcanada1 Already have both!
that shit is kool
hey man iam thinking about getting into open pit coal mining buisness does operating an exacavator take alot of math?
whered u get the AI safety vest?
I lied. 2339.1 when I turned it off today.
@airsoftsniper06
The first truck was full if he put any more on it would have just run out the back anyway and probably left goiters on the haul road.
327.6 gal/1240 L
Most anyone can hog dirt, let's see you pull some grade.

No one with vision issues should cut their own hair
Yep.
8yd.
you drive on 10 ? wtf!
Just once I'd like to watch a heavy equipment video without some yea-hoo sayin he could have done it better!
unfortunaly no but if you go on cranevalleydamproject(dot)com there is some photos
