Great, helpful review. I can get a 000m-1st for $200, but know little about the 1st designation. I think by watching this video that means 1 standard. Is that right? Also does that mean nothing special so to speak.
Hello! Great question. Yes the 000m-1 won’t have the vintage looks - no open back tuning keys, no vintage colour on the top, less gloss etc, but it has the same wood and the same construction, same size. Hope that helps 😊
I bought a Sigma 0M rosewood laminate solid spruce, solid rosewood bridge, and fretboard. It was like new at a pawn shop, for 225.00 !!! Bone nut and saddle.. It had the same dimensions as my My Martin OM28. Better fretwork, actually. I'm a huge fan of Sigma. Best value on the planet. Please change the new AMI logo. It's too modern, harsh, and devoid of style. The people are asking for a more classic looking faunt. Trust me.
Hello! Great question. I’ve played the guild, but don’t own one. I’d say it’s equally good from a quality perspective. I’ve heard people say the neck on the sigma is too wide.for them. I personally don’t mind it. So it’s probably a question of which guitar feels more playable for you. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by!
This guitar has a strip in the interior over the center seam (running from the neck block to the tail block) of the back as is used on guitars with two-piece solid backs (visible at about 0:33). Laminate-back guitars don't really need these as a rule because their backs are made with one full-width piece of plywood. Are you sure it doesn't have a solid back?
Great question! The key differences will be that the Martin is likely to have better tonal balance. Also if the Martin is solid body it will resonate better, have wider dynamics and hold better sustain. If it’s a choice between the two - go the Martin. I’ve got a 20 year old version of the 16gte and it’s magic. I can see the sigma holding firm over the next 20yrs but not developing character like Martins typically do. Hope that helps!
Hi! Thanks for the question! If you look at sigma’s website they’ll explicitly say “solid mahogany” for solid and “mahogany” for laminated. Interestingly they wrote to me and said that my use of the term laminated was inaccurate and they prefer “veneer”. In discussion with a local guitar dealer, the core wood also change depending on the supply, so it’s hard to know what they’re actually made of year to year.
Sigma were originally a Martin company but were sold to a German company in the early 2000's.
Thanks Keith! You’re right. AMI/Sigma actually reached out to me to correct that inaccuracy.
Have heard of sigma but first time to see one. Currently shopping for new guitar.
They’re great guitars! I would highly recommend taking a look. Good luck with buy your new guitar.

Completely agree!! Sigma make excellent guitars. Thanks for the comment.
What do you think about Sigma 000m-18 vs Guild OM240e?

Hi!! Thanks to your comment. I got the specs came from the Sigma website. I’ll look into it though - you might be right.
Got a chance of a used Martin 00016gt how do you think it compares tone wise to the Sigma?

Are you sure the body is laminate? I thought the 000m-18 was solid sapele at least
