I'm not American but do enjoy watching the MLS and i agree with you on pro/rel, you don't need it right now, in the future you will, especially if you keep expanding, with the salary cap I'd like to see them have only 1 DP (in case a Messi or even a Zlatan type star becomes available) and boost the cap to about £25m with a £20m floor, you'd attract more players not just from Europe but all around the world, as far as the summer schedule, from a selfish view, I hope it stays over the summer, when the Premier League finishes I've got something to watch 😂 but in all seriousness you guys have created a fun league that is still growing, maybe I'm biased (I have a few American/Mexican friends, who got me into watching CONCACAF) I've kind of adopted you guys as my 2nd team at international level, so I root for you guys (unless you play England anyway 😂) I wish you guys the best for the future

Everyone hates the salary cap, but until this year, MLS clubs are some of the very few around the world who actually make money. Most teams in Europe are perpetually in debt and they have no way out of it.

Except MLS always loses in international club competition...EVERY YEAR in CONCACAF CL!? Is losing winning?

I think mls is going on a great direction, european leagues have fallen in quality only few leagues are good now compare to years ago, 32 teams is the max and playoffs in my opinion europe need this as the leagues now are boring as every year the same teams win it. overall I have follow mls since beckham arrive and the league has grown and improve since and will continue too the best days are ahead.

Always love certain contradictions and paradoxes being perpetrated about world soccer, like fans watching the games and players competing with each other to better their teams because they all have one thing in their mind and that is pro/rel… and not the fact that people love watching and playing soccer and seeing their teams winning, it all has to do with what will happen at the end of the season where small teams with small fanbase drop down to lower division and may or may not go bankrupt from that point onward and still that only pulls in the curious soccer nerds while the rest of the audience being the vast majority flock to see title-determining games or to see the winning team play and generate massive interests reverberating through society and making millions in the process.
Also, copying generic European naming conventions for teams is the biggest thing that’s wrong with the MLS, but seeing that’s not even on the list, I can tell where your preferences lie. Hard to argue against the MLS actually when teams from USL, lower divisions and amateur competitions do the exact same and increasingly so. MLS clubs carrying out market researches and conducting focus groups have all arrived at the same conclusion and that is you American soccer fans don’t care about the American part and to that I say: “What a Shame!” You people really deserve the product that you ask for honestly, by making the league appeal to you only and alienating the rest of the majority population, which explains the poor TV ratings probably. Didn’t mean to sound overly negative or doom-and-gloom or anything, I will follow the league for the next 10 years and see how it grows. Expanding salary cap should be a priority at this point, salary = quality of play, but don’t abolish it, salary cap is a good thing.

Play offs should only have the top 8 only account points tally. And conferences need to end for this to work

Great video. I just subscribed. but some the stuff you talked about was surface level nitpicks. Pro/rel and salary cap are the only two things you talked about the can actually move the needle.
The salary cap should definitely stay while it is a handicap when you put mls against leagues around the world it does increase the competitiveness between clubs within the league.
Next pro/rel will not work in the US. That’s not how Americans are programmed to understand sports. MLS already has trouble educating the fans they have about pro soccer imagine the steps back it will take trying to educate fans on such a foreign concept. I think the playoffs fill the void that not having pro/rel bottom table matches. More teams are fighting for playoff slots for longer through the regular season. Most teams have 4-5 games left and only a few teams clinched a playoff spot and only one team has been completely eliminated. This means that Every game matters if you want to have a successful season.

@brando7266 Attendance is garbage in Chicago and Houston and ratings are terrible. It's a local game only with bad rosters and clubs no better than Central American franchises.

One thing that frustrates me regarding how MLS fans respond to Pro/Rel is that I think many of them don't truly know why people like it and how it works up and down the pyramid. They know the basic mechanics of teams going up and down but that's where their understanding ends. A lot of MLS fans mostly only follow MLS (most likely their own teams and playoffs) and maybe one overseas team. Understanding Pro/Rel is far more than just focusing on the top division, especially since the health of pyramids are dependent on the health of the lower divisions.
At the end of the day MLS and how it's structured soccer in America with USSF is like adapting a book into a movie without capturing the soul of the book. Yes things have to be left out or changed to fit the new medium, but if you don't understand the story and its heart and the adaptation will not satisfy. This to me is why MLS struggles in fully capturing America's hearts. MLS is trying to deliver soccer differently to how it was delivered to the rest of the world without understanding how it captured the world. This is why many think it's the same game and don't understand why people here don't like it and look to foreign leagues like La Liga, Prem, etc.
