I don't know what I did wrong but boy did I goof somewhere! That beautiful dough would not pipe without me practically breaking my wrist and thumb. I even added a splash of milk and a bit more butter to loosen the dough but, nope, no luck. I will refrigerate it then roll it out and use some cookie cutters.

Questions: What is done with the vegetable shortening/crisco? I think you said use an non-greased cookie sheet; Why just the egg yolk?; and how many cookies/dozen does your recipe make approximately?
The shortening is optional, it just helps with the texture and sheen of the chocolate. A whole egg is a bit much for the cookies so you just want to use an egg. This recipe will make about 2 dozen. Enjoy! 😊

Honestly I usually don’t for this recipe because it’s not super important to me, but if you want to ensure a nice streak free appearance your best bet is to temper the chocolate. 😊

I honestly haven’t tried it to be able to say for sure. I think you’d need to reduce some flour and add the cocoa powder but it’s really hard to give you amounts without having done it. 😔 if you do try it I would love to know how it turns out. 😊
I just finished baking these cookies. Mine couldn't come out of the piping tip, I not sure what I did wrong. I used a cookie cutter. I also leave them in the oven a little longer, big mistake. They got a little crunchy . I love these cookies even though I messed it up. I saved half of the cookie dough and I will bake it the correct time. You guys have to try them. This is nothing like store bought. It's soooooo much better.

@@Binkyandant I used a Wilton 1M, then an Ateco 8, then finally just cut the end off a piping bag. Dough was way too thick. Set the piping bag on the stove and FINALLY got it to pipe but didn't keep shape while baking. Did taste good but ugly cookies. My first attempt at a recipe from this site...

Hi so I really like your recipe for butter cookies. I’ve been trying to find the right one that works. I don’t have piping bags and when I tried to make my own bag it doesn’t work. I have seen other people put the dough in plastic wrap and then put in the refrigerator. And then after a while take it out and then cut it. Would that work with your recipe?.

You can substitute some of the granulated sugar with brown sugar. If you use too much the cookies may not retain their shape as well due to the moisture in the brown sugar. ☺️
@@SugarSpunRun no I didn't weigh them because I don't have a kitchen scale. So I spooned the flour into the cup and then leveled it off. I couldn't even use my hand mixer in there when I added the flour to the batter. ☹ I ended up using my spatula to mix in the flour.
There are a couple of things that could be causing the issue. I would start with the flour. Most likely there isn’t enough flour. If the butter was warm enough it may cause the issue here but that’s probably not your issue here. Also make sure you aren’t putting them on a hot pan. I hope this helps. 😊
I’m not sure there is quite an equivalent. The closest is probably a 1m, but it’s a little smaller and piping can be very difficult. If someone else finds one I would love to know about it. 😊

Oh no! Yes, if your butter was super soft/melty, that could definitely be the cause. Or if you piped the dough onto hot cookie sheets 😕

Have you tried a gallon sized baggie? Then you just snip the corner off. I haven’t tried the refrigerator technique so I’m not sure how it would go.
