Steely Dan was probably one of the most versatile groups from the 70's for sure. I would encourage you both to look further into their music catalog because, this group turned out some great memorable music that definitely won't disappoint, " Peg " " Reelin in the years " " Deacon Blues " " Hey Nineteen " just to name a few.

They're a rock band. A rock band that can be described as jazzy as they did mix in elements of jazz, but not simply a jazz band. They are no more a jazz band than KISS is a disco band. Not that I believe IWMFLY is a disco song, it only mixes in a disco element or two.

First album, first cut - this was our initial exposure to Steely Dan, and we'd heard nothing just like it before. I never looked back (ha!). Steely Dan is Walter Becker (R.I.P.) and Donald Fagen and pretty much every top of the class session musician in the world, varying from song to song to song. As for the name Steely Dan, google it, you'll never believe me if I tell you where it comes from. What to next listen to of theirs - pretty much pick anything, you almost can't go wrong. That being said My Old School, Kid Charlamagne, Don't Take Me Alive, The Royal Scam, Dirty Work, Aja, FM.....

These songs along with many others from Steely Dan filled the radio airwaves throughout the 70's. "Hey Nineteen" capped off the decade in 1980. Each tells a tale of its own. Donald Fagan, genius composer. Listen to the opening of Josie. This is the first band that I learned the drums. List: Aja for Asia, Hey Nineteen, for the "nice" hi-hat and Josie, because she's a good girl. You guys are awesome.

You'll love Steely Dan, they've got dozens of great songs, and you love good music. They always have the best players, the best production, great arrangements, always great. Long ago I had some 2 vinyl album greatest hits album, and every single track was a classic. I would suggest Bodhisattva, Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Doctor Wu, or Josie, but there's lots to choose from.

Donald Fagan (vocals, keyboards etc) & Walter Becker (guitars etc) were Steely Dan....everyone else was a guest artist...such a unique sound!

I vote for Steely Dan - Deacon Blues. They’re a mellow, laid back, groove rock band. I love them!!!

I my humble opinion this is the greatest band in history. So many hits, and some of their best songs weren’t even hits. Keep listening to Steely Dan because they will never let you down. ❤️✌🏼😎

One of their best, but they have so many good tunes. One of the best bands of the 70's. Loved them in junior high and high school. Just bought their greatest hits CD about 8 years ago. They have a timeless quality for sure. I dug them at 12 years old and still do at 58. Talented creators.

Let’s get it right it’s world renown Steely Dan I mean as a kid I can remember interviews of musicians from around the world and how they try to explain the music that is steely Dan it’s such a complication and only those who are at the top tier of their instruments can’t even begin to play Steely Dan amazing amazing group

The unique-sounding guitar solo in the middle was done on an electric sitar guitar. That's what it has that distinct Indian sound to it. Quite innovative, to say the least. This is one of my favorite rock songs having listened to it since I was in junior high.
