This Christmas is going to be especially hard. I lost my husband Wednesday the 15th of over 36 years married and almost 40 years together. He contracted MRSA from vascular surgery on his leg. We thought it was healed and everything was fine but there was infection we didn’t know about. Once we knew it was too late, it went to his lungs, blood and kidneys immediately then his heart and finally his brain. This was all within a week. I’m not writing this for sympathy, but only to remind everyone that we never know what tomorrow brings. Spend time with your loved ones, tell them you love them because tomorrow is not promised. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Jamie, enjoy the little things! ♥️

Hey angel. Please don’t feel guilty about not going to visit your dad all the time. My dad died when I was younger and we only really go up to visit him on his birthday, anniversary and Christmas. He will be with you always and you don’t need to go visit him or somewhere which makes it hard for you. He will know you still love him and think of him always without doing this. Keep strong and do what’s best for you. Sending so much love ♥️💖
I totally agree with you about New Year’s Eve. For years, me and my husband have a take out after a long walk or a cheese board and a movie and quietly celebrate and we are both in bed and asleep before the bells toll the new year (until the fireworks wake us up! ) I thought I was alone as I feel New Year’s Eve has always made me feel sad and under pressure to be having an amazing party or out with friends but now know a lot of people feel the same. Merry Christmas Gemma..my husband and I are home bodies and love being home we have a beautiful garden and pool and love to be here or in the house cuddling up and our dog with us. We love cosy NYE at home also with a cheese board a hot chocolate and playing Scrabble. We couldn't care less what anyone thinks we love our lives and spending time together and right now being well and safe is so important. Take care look forward to seeing you in the new year x 🎅❤️

The last 6 minutes really ring home with me, especially this year. Our first Christmas without the matriarch of our family, our wonderful mam... and I'm just starting to realise that it is OK to not be OK. Or to hear that, its OK to not be happy all the time. But I love Christmas, and the whole cosy, fuzzy, festive feeling it brings, so as hard as it will be, we will try to make it as happy as we can. Merry Christmas 🎄

Starch and iron your napkins before you fold them. At the part when you pressed with your hands on the pleats do another tiny iron so the layers are pressed tight, then they will stay beautifully crisp and delineated on the table. Once they are folded you can pop them in a box or a drawer until Christmas day, they should stay wrinkle free and crisp then you just put the cutlery in on Christmas day.

Loved this video 😍 I'm from Finland, and we always celebrate Christmas mainly on the Christmas Eve. There are a few Christmas shows in the morning, that are traditional. The main show is a live show 'the Santa Claus's hotline' and children can call him and he answers them on TV. Then there's the Snowman, of course. Right after Snowman there's the Declaration of Christmas peace at 12pm. Merry Christmas Gemma, Jamie, Teddy and Tilly ❤️✨

hello from the states. I completely understand about not going to the cemetary for your dad. I lost my mom 11 years ago and i only go to her graveside maybe twice a year to take her flowers, mainly on mothers day. I dont particularly like going because it makes me sad when i am there. so I completely understand how you feel. I think its best to remember them as they were, all the happy times with them. This time of year is difficult when you are missing loved ones. Hope you and lovely family have a wonderful Christmas.

Best Xmas movie for Xmas Eve I think would be The Polar Express. Such a magical vibe. I watched the BBC’s All Aboard The Sleigh Ride one year. It was so peaceful and chilled.

Gemma your dad will always be with you, I am sure of it ❤ I felt the same about similar. You could always have a photo of him and put some Christmas flowers in a vase next to it for him and maybe light a Christmas candle along with it when you think of him ❤❤
I had similar guilt about visiting my gramps at the cemetery. A medium told me that he knew of this and to not feel guilt and rush to visit as he wasn’t there, he was always with one of us. It took the pressure off and also the emotional weight off of visiting the cemetery. Think of it that your dad is with you whenever you need him and visiting his allotment is an added bonus x
Your dad will be with everyone he spent time with, hel be protecting you and mum but also knows you have your life to live. Hes very proud and never too far away. 🖤🎄 xx

I don't watch a certain film on christmas eve specifically but I do have certain christmas movies that I watch every year in December. My favs are Christmas with the Kranks, A Christmas Story, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Polar Express, The Family Man, White Christmas. And my favorite cooking show holiday edition is The Great British Baking Show Holiday episodes.

Gemma i think it is too soon to put yourself under pressure going to the allotment, it can take years to come to terms with loosing someone close . Eventually as you heal it will become easier . Your dads spirit will be with you where ever you are so please don’t feel its only at the allotment. Its been 8 years since i lost my parents within 8 wks of each other and i still feel like i dont enjoy christmas anymore. You never get over the loss but you do learn how to cope with it better. Sending big hugs xx
