Tested it today. 50amp plug wired to panel with interlock. 2565 sq ft home. Installed Magic air soft start to 5 ton heat pump. I didn’t realize ac compressor had started it was so quiet. Ran ac, water heater, freezer, fridge, some lights. Turned on dryer and it finally started to sputter so turned dryer off. So I’m confident it can run enough during power outage to run all those things and manage it out when we need the dryer or cooktop by turning off water heater or ac for awhile. As expected, it couldn’t come close to running the heat side on a 5 ton unit. Would probably need minimum 17000 running watts. So I will use electric plug in heaters when outage happens in the winter. It’s about being able to stay in your home during an emergency. Keeping all this in mind, I give a big thumbs up.
I have this generator, with arrangement to run my whole house. It runs every light and both furnaces, and all other utilities. It has saved me during power outages due to wind blowing trees down, squirrels exploding transformers, hurricanes destroying power towers, etc. , and most recently the freeze of 2020, when I ran it 70 hours continuously to keep my well running and furnace heating, sheltering less fortunate relatives as they waited for their pipes to thaw and heat to come back on. For summer hurricane use, I bought a roll around room air conditioner 12,500 BTU. that runs on 115VAC. The Generator won't pull the main air conditioners, but I don't need them. The smaller AC keeps the great room cool and comfortable. With ice water from my refrigerator and working water well, power to run my construction tools and lighting, and power for washing clothes and providing sanitation, I make it through tough times pretty easily. I just have to remember to get steaks out of the freezer in time to throw them on the pit. I keep 50 gal of gas on hand at all times, and every drop of fuel that comes on the place (except what is in the motor vehicles) gets stabilized. With additional fuel available from pumping out my boat, I can have 85 gallons available, enough for about 10 shifts, After use, I de-fuel the generator and store it in the garage out of the weather. I test the generator every 90 days, unless I have run the generator for cause in the interval. I can deploy the generator in 7 minutes, sheltering under cover in my breezeway, It never fails to start. I recommend, however, that you always maintain the electric start capabilities, even though it can be rope started. Tugging and hoping is not the way to go, in the dark, when the wind is howling. This generator is MUCH MUCH more useful than the earlier 6000 watt generator I had; the earlier generator's Briggs engine carburetor design was inferior for storage, and even when de-fueled and drained, the carburetor would varnish up rapidly and could not be started. SO_ Bottom line- If you get this generator, you will love it, it is well designed, bug enough, and worth the money!!!!! The monitoring instruments provided show total hours of operation, voltage and frequency, and hours of run since start. I added a separate total hour meter. It IS NOISY, however, and you will need to wear earmuffs while working around it, If you start and use it with 5 gal Propane containers, they will super cool rapidly if the weather is cold. They will actually get to the point that vapor pressure drops so low they will not run the generator. So if you want to use propane, get a LARGE TANK. Not a problem if you are rural and on propane already.
I have the 4500 watt WEN generator and I Love it. I am also gonna buy the 11000 watt one so I can give each one a break between filling up. with the weather the way it is you never know what's coming your way.
Thanks for the video. Just got my new WEN 11000 going and wired in a plug/interlock to be able to power the whole house. If you loosen that red positive wire, you can spin it upward and tuck it in. I did it. Less chance of getting caught on something.
Great video, I bought the same generator for the same reasons. I can run my double wide mobile home 1440 sq. feet with this generator, A/C included. I have 2 propane tanks stored if needed to use this.
I'm sold. I need this for a back up home generator and I don't want to store gasoline more than a year. I own a Wen bench top wood planer and its been a great tool. I'm sticking with this brand. The Chinese have really upped their game with these products.
This one had made the short list, and your awesome review sealed the deal! I plan on getting a 100 pound propane tank and keep it for emergencies when gas will be hard to find. Based on your usage, at least say 50% have you figured out the run time per pound?
I just got one and I'm so happy you said it's so powerful. I'm working through building an enclosure on it to keep it quiet, but so happy you are satisfied with the power output. Thank you.

Propane can be a fantastic option, especially if you can set up a generator and leave it in place with a large propane tank. The pick draw back on propane though especially with a portable generator that you may be moving around is the bulk and weight of the propane tanks at versus gasoline. 16 gallon can of gasoline will give you about the same amount of power output as two of the 20 lb propane bottle like you would use on your barbecue grill. Just imagine a week out using your generator with your camper burning say 2 gallons a day of gasoline oh, you would go through 3 5-gallon cans. Using propane you would need to take five of the 20 lb bottles.

Good day, just spoke to a Wen rep because my solenoid went bad so I couldn’t start with the electric switch. Good review. I'm glad I discovered this brand. I would recommend talking while the generator is running to give an idea how loud it is relative to another sound.
Q: how long can i run this generator before I have to turn it off? I have a 100 gallon propane tank connected to it for Hurricane season? Thanks in advance
no, Wen does make an inverter generator, but this one is not. Inverter will tipically cost much more, and usually they are not dual fuel out of the box. (not sure why)
For the WEN 11000: Since this isn't an inverter, are there any issues running sensitive electronics on this? Phones you mentioned, what about computers, TVs, small appliances, etc?
would i be able to hook up to and run central heating with this Generator? i live in Texas, just survived six days without main heat, but managed to one room heated with other means
Your opinion. I need 7000 running watts for a future portable stick welder. This one, the wen (11000/8300) or the Westinghouse (9500/7500), both are priced the same. both have plenty enough power. If power isn’t an issue (since both have over what’s needed, which would you choose? I think the Westinghouse has a remote start, and runs a little longer,(not important), otherwise they seem similar. But as far as name brand, engine quality, overall quality, longest lasting without blowing up, which one you think? Not sure if you’re bias, wouldn’t blame you if you are, if they sponsor I mean (that would be wrong of you to bad mouth them), but I’m asking anyways, you seem knowledgeable in generators, plus hands on experience with that one. Thanks 🙏
This video was not sponsored. And I don't have any experience with a westinghouse. But if it was me and both were same price I would go with "more power!". (In my best Tim the Tool Man voice)
Great video, Thank you for doing it I have the same generator and seldom use it and I inadvertently left the key in the "on" position and now the battery is dead an won't take a charge. I can't find another one that fits in the space or meet the specs of 12v 14AH. Does the battery do anything other than starting the motor? I am thinking of not replacing it, since the unit can be started manually. Any thoughts on that? Thank you
My battery went dead after extended time of not using it, I replaced battery, the pull string was more work than I wanted, I also have to add, when it was dead, I simply jumped it with my truck.
I'm replacing a 6k gen pro diesel that has a flexible 2" id metal exhaust pipe that goes thru the garage wall to a short stack outside. Can I put that pipe on the Wen? When in use I do open both front and rear garage doors. Good video!
Make sure you watch this video about generator safety ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html everyone really needs to agree with this. I’m not trying to force you to all. I just hope you stay safe using your portable generator. Thank you. Be sure you leave a comment.
it will likely not work without modification, this is because Propane has a different optimal gas to air ratio, its why when you buy a natural gas stove, you usually have to change the nozels to convert to propane. Even if you get it to run, it will most likely not be efficient, and may even be unsafe as it may not burn completely with suboptimal fuel mixture. It can likely be modified to run on natural gas though, but I don't know how much work or if parts are available to do the conversion.
I just got a firman T7571 dual fuel . 50amp . Peak power 8450 and running 6750 on propane . I have really been researching where generators are made parts ect . Seems like china except Honda and Yamaha $$$$$$ . I have been looking at videos and most reviews are out of the box reviews . I been looking for actual long term use of generator . I have a 12 year old generac that still runs great , but would like a propane generator . I saw a video on firman that if gas regulator goes out your screwed parts cant be found for firman . Anyway are most generators and parts made in china because it seems many have the same exterior features ? Excluding Honda and Yamaha . So what is your opinion on firman ? All i want is something really dependable and last years like my generac , but who doesn't . Not to knock Chinese , but some stuff they make is crap . Hope to hear from you .
The only thing not covered was securing your generator. Generators are the number one thing stolen during a power outage/ disaster. Otherwise it was very informative video.
He’s reviewing the generator’s specs and its performance. Safety issue like if it can catch on fire or not is one thing, but reviewing it or covering it as an easily stolen item ISNT a spec on this thing man. Should he also cover where one should place it? How to maintenance it? What to cover with during rain day or outside? How much propane or where to get propane? Lmao.
@@YourBoyEden Actually yes. Many people are first time buyers/ owners. I know there are other videos out there that will cover this, but it never hurts to inform people.
You could easily power a window unit with 11,000 watts. If you have a soft start kit on your house HVAC and gas heat, you can power that and just about everything else with it as well. Without soft start, you may want to limit the other items a bit but can still run them. Electrical heaters on HVAC would be too much though.
As you had mentioned in the video, that you could run the entire house from the generator. With a fifty amp outlet that would be impossible to do....Electric range (If you have one)..AC units (If you have dual system)...Well pump...Lighting and power, this would be impossible to run all at the same time....
I did not say that you could definatly run your whole house, I said I could run most of my essentials and depending on your energy needs and depending on your house you could Possibly run your entire house. Not everyone has and electric range and dual AC units or a well....
Normally, you wouldn't try to run big wattage items at the same time, when on emergency power. (You have to manage the load on the generator). We have a Predator 9000 start up watt, 7250 running watt generator rated for 30 amp and it can run our 3 ton AC unit, upright freezer, big fridge, tankless water heater, washer and dryer at the same time at about 80% load. So, it can be done depending on your power needs. Our generator can easily run our entire two story house.
I believe it does, a 4 ton AC needs about 4,000 watts running, you do need to install a soft starter to lower the compressor kick from 70 Amps to about 40 Amps
All, you'd better watch out with this generator. There is a reason it comes so cheap. 1-No data about clean power (THD %) so if used to power electronics it may burn your equipment. 2-This gen cannot be started without the battery which kind of defeats the purpose of the pull cord that would usually work on any generator. This may be a bad surprise in an emergency if your battery is dead. 3 - Questionable long-term reliability with extended usage at higher than 50% loads. If all is OK, then go ahead and get one.
Lol first, you are incorrect, this generator does have a pull start and it perfectly capable of starting with the pull start rather than the battery!!! Also, it's not ideal to charge sensitive electronics with any type of generator like this, inverter generators are better suited for that. Thanks anyway
@@PilotPatriot I am trying to pick a fight here but have you tried disconnecting the battery and then starting it with the cable? There are people who say that once the battery is drained below the treshold the wire wont work. As for the THD. There is at least one other brand which I wont mention because I am not promoting it which offers volt regulator which offers
Are people really running a grounding rod to these? I just bought one and that wasn’t really talked about by the retailer. What a pain in the ass. I noticed you didn’t have one hooked up, had any problems or concerns?
@@PilotPatriot thanks for the quick reply, it’s much appreciated. I started scouring other videos today and don’t see anyone hooking it up. Thanks again... I really don’t intend to do that, seems like a pain in the ass and following the logic, Id never be able to use it camping or in a remote location, which is half the purpose of having it.
ps you are a city boy in a city house how much do you run a genset i have 6 Best small quiet generator Cummins Onan P4500igas genset and 2 diesel and 2 rv onan total 10 the onan are crap gas hogs but look at the same genset as pulsar but 1000$ LESS
well yea, thats the "running" watts. all generators are advertised at their surge watts. in this case, running whats is only 8300 Gas, 7500 LPG. so if your putting constant 5700w on it, it will probably start to bog down at that point. Might also be the wires you have connecting to it also. Make sure they are properly sized for your amps.
i posted a comment yesterday and it's not here ??? anyway, we ordered this same generator on june 19th from amazon for $699.99 plus tax, be here saturday the 24th hopefully, we have a smaller inverter/generator 3100 watt, wen , about 8 years old, starts on first pull every time, for all of you self absorbed assholes posting shit on here about 11000 watts, we had no power for 5 days after irma, we have big window a/c's , we had a/c's. fridge, chest freezer all going , plus coffee maker and charging our phones , that was on a 4000 watt champion and our 3100 watt wen, and they both worked their asses off, the champion barely made it,last year, the champion was useless, wouldn't stay running, our little wen ran like new, this year, we will have our new 11000 watt wen to run our whole house if need be , i'd rather have too much juice then not enough
@@markdice6361 A/C unit, Fridge, freezer, Stove, heat pump, well pump, lights, tv, computer....it adds up Most houses would need at least this much power if not Alot more to run the ENTIRE house...unless you live in your car! If you don't need 11,000 go down to the smaller model (link in description) but keep in mind 11k is the starting watts, not the running watts! Also......don't be an A hole
@@PilotPatriot I got the WEN 4750 watt. The A/C unit is what kills you. I have a whole house fan that uses 1/10 the power of my A/C so I can get away with a generator 1/2 the size that is much more fuel efficient.
FROM WESTINGHOUSE : "The generators are designed in the USA and made in China or Vietnam under the license and supervision of Westinghouse. Overseas models, such as those for Australia, are developed with local engineering input to ensure regulatory compliance and satisfy customer preferences in their home markets."
Wrong. China as well on Westinghouse. And all others. Briggs, Champion, CAT, Aipower, Powerhorse, Cummins Onan, Predator etc. , etc. Some Honda and Yamaha are made in China as well.

Depends on the size of your a/c unit. Check the power usage and compare it to the running watts of the generator!
Does it have inverter for voltage control?
@@PilotPatriot aauurgh, aauurgh. Lol. Thanks, that’s the one I’ll get, the wen.
Perfect👍 bro get one soon thanks lot
Great video, Thank you for doing it I have the same generator and seldom use it and I inadvertently left the key in the "on" position and now the battery is dead an won't take a charge. I can't find another one that fits in the space or meet the specs of 12v 14AH. Does the battery do anything other than starting the motor? I am thinking of not replacing it, since the unit can be started manually. Any thoughts on that? Thank you
The battery is only for starting the motor
My battery went dead after extended time of not using it, I replaced battery, the pull string was more work than I wanted, I also have to add, when it was dead, I simply jumped it with my truck.
I'm replacing a 6k gen pro diesel that has a flexible 2" id metal exhaust pipe that goes thru the garage wall to a short stack outside. Can I put that pipe on the Wen? When in use I do open both front and rear garage doors. Good video!
I'm sure you could add a pipe if you want but it's not set up specifically for that
What are the exact dimensions width wise from outside wheel to outside wheel?
Great information. Where did you get your Jerry Cans ?
Thanks! Link in description!
Thank you . Very weel done .
Thanks
Make sure you watch this video about generator safety ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html everyone really needs to agree with this. I’m not trying to force you to all. I just hope you stay safe using your portable generator. Thank you. Be sure you leave a comment.
It sounds good bro
It runs on propane and gasoline will it run on natural gas with the same regulator as the propane regulator
Not sure about the generator, but my stove was designed for natural gas and I use propane the past 8 years no problem.
it will likely not work without modification, this is because Propane has a different optimal gas to air ratio, its why when you buy a natural gas stove, you usually have to change the nozels to convert to propane. Even if you get it to run, it will most likely not be efficient, and may even be unsafe as it may not burn completely with suboptimal fuel mixture. It can likely be modified to run on natural gas though, but I don't know how much work or if parts are available to do the conversion.
What size gen' would run a 110as wirewelder
Can this be used without adding gas at all and just on propane? Thanks
Yes
Can you use a 100lb propane tank and use the same hose and regulator as a 20lb?
Yes
Was going to buy one but it's just not as fuel efficient as others
I am currently trying to find out why this generator runs everything in my house, except our Lennox furnace.
Any thoughts?
Can they be run together in parallel
Can I use an adapter plug for the 240 volt
Yes you can
The only thing not covered was securing your generator.
Would this generator power a portable Ac unit or a window unit? And thank you for sharing this video
You could easily power a window unit with 11,000 watts. If you have a soft start kit on your house HVAC and gas heat, you can power that and just about everything else with it as well. Without soft start, you may want to limit the other items a bit but can still run them. Electrical heaters on HVAC would be too much though.
ps i have a 2200 watt wen very nice genset
How long will that propane tank last?
20lb tank should be About 8 hrs I think, that's just off top of my head but Wen should have that info
How is it running
Great
You mentioned noise while it is unloaded. Putting more than a 50% load is going to make any generator significantly louder (well except a Honda).
Have u had problems with the battery going dead in winter
No
Many generators come with a built in battery charger. You just plug in the ac power cord once a month for the time dictated in the owner manual.
Buy a 12V trickle charger for a car and you will never have dead battery for the entire life of the battery.
@@PilotPatriot Yeah tell Karen to watch the video again lol
ps the wen is heavy on fuel and i put new jets in it for 7000 ft
I wondering If this generator can run a 4 tons central AC.
I believe it does, a 4 ton AC needs about 4,000 watts running, you do need to install a soft starter to lower the compressor kick from 70 Amps to about 40 Amps
Run just 3 hrs in propane at 50% load ...take it from there...
How long will one 15lb propane bottle last at 50% capacity on that Wen generator you have there? Thanks.
6hrs ISH
@@petkoandreev7869 The pull start (recoil start) is a different mechanism...it doesn't require any support from a battery, that it's whole purpose.
Does this mean you can't run your TV or stereo? What about surge protector
@@fordhamdonnington2738 Yes, you can!
Will it run on natural gas?
No
@@PilotPatriot I wonder why? Can you change out the regulator?
Yes fart into propane tube
Great video, but my concern is there made in China.
I have several wen product, love them all
and the wen will not turn over win cold you have to pull the cord
Are people really running a grounding rod to these? I just bought one and that wasn’t really talked about by the retailer. What a pain in the ass. I noticed you didn’t have one hooked up, had any problems or concerns?
It's a safety precaution that is recommended....but I doubt many people actually do it. Unless you have it set in a more permanent location/setup.
Huh? You lost me after city boy...I live on a farm lol
and the power very dirty
it is kinda dirty. most non inverter gens are actually pretty dirty. If you need clean power, its always better to go Inverter.
and it will not do more than 5700 watts on gas till it bogs down lights go off
well yea, thats the "running" watts. all generators are advertised at their surge watts. in this case, running whats is only 8300 Gas, 7500 LPG. so if your putting constant 5700w on it, it will probably start to bog down at that point. Might also be the wires you have connecting to it also. Make sure they are properly sized for your amps.
Have a wen died after about 12 hours ,motor runs ,no juice . New voltage regulator, new brushes still dead
Had mine several years now. Ran mine during a power outage yeaterday. No issues
Aren't these made in China?
i posted a comment yesterday and it's not here ??? anyway, we ordered this same generator on june 19th from amazon for $699.99 plus tax, be here saturday the 24th hopefully, we have a smaller inverter/generator 3100 watt, wen , about 8 years old, starts on first pull every time, for all of you self absorbed assholes posting shit on here about 11000 watts, we had no power for 5 days after irma, we have big window a/c's , we had a/c's. fridge, chest freezer all going , plus coffee maker and charging our phones , that was on a 4000 watt champion and our 3100 watt wen, and they both worked their asses off, the champion barely made it,last year, the champion was useless, wouldn't stay running, our little wen ran like new, this year, we will have our new 11000 watt wen to run our whole house if need be , i'd rather have too much juice then not enough

To power 11,000 watts worth of stuff....
@@PilotPatriot like you and your Neighbors house?😂
@@PilotPatriot A hole 🍩
The Wen generator is made in China. The Westinghouse generator is made in the U.S.A.
Briggs, Champion, CAT, Aipower, Powerhorse, Cummins Onan, Predator etc. , etc. Some Honda and Yamaha are made in China as well.
its really hard to avoid "made in china" these days. what you pay for in the US brands is just "usually" better quality control and warranty support.
Better than Honda?! I don’t think so.
Maybe not better but same power, same size, just as quiet and half the price....it's better on your wallet!
Poop on Honda. Overpriced.

this baby is straight up china gen power, I know china has paid certain peoples to promote their products in the past, idk if that happening here but then again this is feeling like a straight up infomercial to me. never seen an owner do an infomercial ,screams china pay..
I was not paid a dime for this, I have several Wen products and all are great budget options! I bought this on sale from Home Depot and I love it, its worked flawlessly, always cranks, works off multiple fuel sources, and has plenty of POWER! Don't knock it till you try it!!
