Back in February 2019, Metra announced it would be purchasing 15 rebuilt SD70MAC freight locomotives, repurposed for their commuter operations with the addition of HEP and an upgraded, EPA Tier III compliant 710 prime mover. Now, 5 years later, the majority of the base order of 15 locomotives is on property and in service. Join me as I wander around the Milwaukee District lines to catch these 6-axle, 4-motor, 4,500 horsepower beasts doing what they do best: moving heavy passenger tonnage to and from Chicago Union Station. Enjoy =)

Righteous. Still a sight though. Going to take a while to get used to.
Saw a F40 yesterday up here on the Zion line just yesterday.
At the time these were announced, the order called for 27 options. I think Metra is starting to exercise some of these, and they are aiming at replacing the non-rebuilt F40s. I hope these are successful, considering that these are the first six-axle passenger locos in a while.
Did u do a video of the 2000 Washington metro trains last day in service
No
How would you react or feel about metra purchasing bl36ph and sc 44s?
The BL36 will never happen, so non-starter. The SC-44, maybe sometime down the line, but it looks like Metra was going for a cost effective option here with the SD70s, so I also don't see them buying brand new power any time soon either.
Since all of metra’s equipment is pretty much old and used locomotives from mostly Amtrak and probably csx correct me if I am wrong
@@FanRailer I think Metra has a like towards EMD in general.
@@FanRailer really considering the Brookville bl36ph looks similar to the m36ph and f59phi and they prefer emd trains plus they uses older trains like the f40ph and f59ph and f59phi plus metra hates an doesn’t like buying newer trains like sc 44 Siemens charger.
Using hep inverter type ?
Yes. Very new passenger diesels have been ordered recently that have the separate genset HEP.
The fact that Metra has two slightly different shades of blue and different flag placements for their Metra MACs ticks me off so much...
That’s only 500, which is the RTA heritage unit. All of the other SD70s have the same scheme.
The engines still look good unlike you.
