I don’t know why but I’ve always thought of this song as the song of new beginnings. I recovered this year from so many things (suicidal thoughts, addictions, toxic relationships, etc.) and I can‘t believe that I MADE it. Now I’m listening to this song just like how I was listening to when I didn’t go into that recovery.

I think its because the record label was scared because its too pop and Taylor hasn't transitioned to pop fully at the time. However, this track is a Max Martin and Shellback production. They are partly to credit for the success of 1989.
