    See now this is what I personally prefer. You have stock which you can't hear anything at all. You have loud (straight piped) with lots of drone and noise. And then you have something in middle like what you have here where you can hear it when you get on it, sounds good, but cruising on the freeway you don't hear much so it doesn't get annoying on road trips. That's what I try to look for.

    I think the Thrush welded has a nice quality sound that you can 100% hear at an idle and when going down the road. When you take off it has a nice aggressive yet in control sound and best yet it doesn't echo in the cab once you are up to speed and cruising.
    I recommend the 2 1/2" for longer wheel base and a 3" for single cab short beds.

    The 5.3L is a fairly quiet engine in stock form. We did a muffler delete on my buddies 2009 with the 5.3L and it is quieter than my 2006 6.0L is with the flowmaster Original 40 series.
    I use to have a 1999 with the 5.3L and we put a glass pack and a dump on it and it was still fairly quiet too.

    Hush thrush, adds the back pressure needed in vehicles.
    When you need the back pressure for passing, it's there.
    These mufflers on mopars make them sound even meaner than they are. On a Chevrolet pickup, when down shifting, it makes it sound like a cat diesel

    I put these mufflers on my 04 6.0 Silverado and they sounded pretty good, they were pretty loud and droned a bit. I then removed the cats because they were plugged and then holy hell, they were so stupidly loud and sounded absolutely terrible. Almost anything off idle was clapping and it was so loud. If I had a trailer on the truck then innocent bystanders would stop what they were doing to look up and see what that obnoxious noise coming down the street was lol

    When I was a kid we sprayed water up the tailpipe. That’s what the old timers told us. It breaks up the fiberglass. It got louder after I did that. I can’t explain it better than that. It was a a Thrush Turbo. There was another one they made that sounded a lot like yours. It was a Thrush Hush. Do know if they still make those or not.

    40 series flows arent too loud if pipe is ran all the way out the rear. If its dumped right after the outlet then yea they can be a little loud. Good sounding muffler or not at least you made a good video showing the installation process. Not too many videos (actually none that i've found) on youtube that show people tips on how to get around mig welding the top half of the pipe while underneath the truck. On a car it's nearly impossible. Good stuff man. 👍

    If you don't want to 'bugger' weld the large gaps of available adapters, or don't have a welder at all....the adapter you need is 2.75" ID to 3" OD.
    The problem with this is that all the national auto parts stores refuse/conspire to not carry that particular adapter! Even though the full size GM pickups & SUV's (the most sold vehicles in the country) & use a 2.75" pipe.
    The exhaust manufactures do NOT want you replacing your own muffler on these vehicles.

    this muffler is exactly like the original 40 series. if you google these 2 muffler images and place them side by side, they are almost the exact muffler. the only difference is one is 10'' and the the thrush is 9.5''

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад +2

      +jasonneal From the outside they may look similar but the inside is what makes the sound. This muffler is not like the 40 series Flowmaster. It's a lot quieter than the 40 series. On take off and driving the muffler is just a little louder than the stock muffler. Reving it does sound nice. Very quiet in the cab with no resonance.

    • @jasonneal
      @jasonneal 8 лет назад +4

      i promise you that the thrush welded chambered muffler is almost the exact same muffler as the flow master original 40's. google both and click on image and look at the open muffler image. its the same. the only difference is the size and its only a 1/2 inch. they had to do that so flow master couldn't sue them

    • @jasonneal
      @jasonneal 8 лет назад +1

      the reason your muffler is not that loud is bc first off, you have stock cats, also your exhaust is one pipe from the cat to the back. and you didn't put on a larger exhaust tip. the tip will add a little more volume, just like a mega phone effect. I have these same mufflers on my 87 chevy truck,

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад +4

      +jasonneal I had a set of 40 series on an 81 Chevy ruclips.net/video/KXz7sqr5SqQ/видео.html . I have had many exhaust systems on various trucks. This Thrush muffler has the sound of an 80 series Flowmaster. Nowhere near what a 40 series Flowmaster. I had a 50 series Flowmaster on a 96 chevy truck. Cats were still in place and the truck sounded amazing. That truck had the 5.0 V8. You could actually hear the exhaust from the outside but it wasn't annoying loud. This muffler has almost no sound except when you rev the truck up parked.

    • @jasonneal
      @jasonneal 8 лет назад +1

      then explain why thrush my truck sounds exactly like my other truck that has the original 40's on it. I bought the trush just for that reason bc the were $40 cheaper. Also did you google the image of both of the mufflers? They look exactly the same to me. also the 80's series is the Camaro and firebird application. Not even close to what you have

    Man you got the setup. I am trying to put my borla muffler (3 inch) in with clamps and I cut the hanger in front of the muffler because I just don't trust a clamp with that little to grab on too (welder would be nice for that). I did not use a 2 3/4 adapter just tried to clamp it directly to the stock exhaust. Well anyway, broke the clamp from cranking on her too much because she still had air leaks so should of got an adapter probably. I don't know if I should blame the Chinese made clamp or me for not using an adapter because I got away with closing about 1/4 inch gap difference on my moms van between pipes and it has no leaks. Should of took it to a muffler shop. Plus here in ohio all it does is rain so everything is a freaking mess if you don't have a garage......sucks

      my opinion. this is my way of thinking, anything you can do to minimise restrictions in putting the air to the engine and letting it out, you will gain hp, or save gas (if you dont step on the trotle some more because you like the new sound) the lest effort your engine makes to suck and exaust its air, the better.

    Have you ever tried any exhausts from Summit? I put them on my trucks and I absolutely love them. Not too loud but not quite either and has a great sound!

      summit sells lots of exhaust so your comment means nothing as it is not specific enough on what type of muffler you put on.

      I got a set of cheap long tube headers off eBay that came with a y pipe that has no cats it looks like it does but it's empty but I still have the stock muffler and am looking for someone with more flow but not to much louder but loosing the weight and opening it up is what I'm looking for

    • @james10739
      @james10739 4 года назад

      @Nimbus Nimbus I believe it is like 2.5 or 2.75 inch and it was advertised as stainless and it probably is but a lesser grade and it bolts up to the rest of the stock pipes it was a cheap kit off eBay

    • @james10739
      @james10739 4 года назад

      @Nimbus Nimbus ya I'm not to worried about it I got it because the cats or 1 was clogged and it did not really sun and they were under $300 for all of it I just figure as quiet as the stock muffler is it has to be restrictive and it's huge so drop a couple pounds and eventually I'll do something with the trans and then a cam

    is it legal in your state to do any modifications to your exhaust? it's a BIG no no where i'm from. cops will give you a huge fine! btw, i think it sounds great, and i wish i had a shop like you have!

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  9 лет назад +1

      davidgriffin14 Here in Wisconsin they don't have strict exhaust laws. In my area they don't have emissions testing. I wouldn't remove the cats. Now that is illegal. The EPA can bring the hammer down on you if you do that. This muffler is very quiet while driving down the road. If I would get hassled by the police I would just tell them the old muffler was damaged and had to be replaced.

    • @darkfireBikes
      @darkfireBikes 9 лет назад +1

      mossman381 I had a decently loud 1971 chevy and I had bought it brand new and at the time I didn't believe In drivers doors or mufflers. Got it home and took those 2 things off. I was hauling bales with it one day and a cop approached me in MY field and told me he was giving me a ticket for a missing door and no muffler but I basically said "fuck off sir. Its my property so you can please kindly fuck off and get the fuck off my land" and he did just that

    Sounds great. That is baffling to me (no pun intended) because I have a Thrush Welded on my 86' Ramcharger with a 360/4v and it is loud as shit. 2 1/2" down pipes to a 2 1/2" dual into 3" single Magnaflow "Y". This goes into the same muffler as Mossman381's and exits out of a OEM diesel 3" tailpipe.

  • @grovezy9782
    @grovezy9782 8 лет назад

    i dont under stand why u would weld it in wrong ? u should have the in pipe going in not over and the tail pipe should be going over the out part on the muffler not in it why would u do that?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  8 лет назад

      +bart groves This is just a daily driver. The only reason for this muffler is sound. The 1/2hp I lose from welding the pipe inside instead of outside is no big deal. If I had an all mandrel bent pipe and was looking for all the hp I could get then that would be a different story. This is just a cut and replace system. The factory pipe is terrible with bends and kinks all over. And you better look at the video again because the inlet is welded over the stock exhaust, then butt welded to the muffler.

    • @grovezy9782
